Hi, I'm a ballet teacher in South America. I'm a fan of the russian ballet method. This is the first time I find a video of the littles ones at the school. I would really appreciate if you could download more of these videos. By the way, I have traveled twice to the international teacher conference in St. Petersburg, and would love to invite a teacher to my country but have not been able to find one. If you have any information you would make a whole country very happy.

@DESstarDANCER i dont' want to be mean, but dont compare your ability to them if you're in grade 7 already! i mean they are like 5 or something aren't they? Of course its easy. this exercise is made for little kids. I mean grade 7 would mean that you're a teenage now? dont compare your own work to this...i don't think that's morally right.... these children obviously worked hard.

Well, if it is class "zero" than it changes everything ofcourse, because it is not yet quite suited to the rules of the academy. I thought it was first grade because the kids look pretty big! all the little ones i see in the evening are teeny tiny! But kids are different, i cant arrgue about that! well good luck at jackobson!

i dont recall this ballet studio at the academy, and as long as i have been there, they NEVER allowed anyone to watch any class, especially take videos. plus, boys and girls are never combined in classes, and there is no class that only has one boy. there are many ballet schools in petersburg though, so i can tell why.

well, i have no hope to persuade you now but it is the Academy of Russian Ballet in the name of Vaganova but the point is (as I have already marked) that it's the preparatory class, the "zero" year. They don't always have enough boys to open a separate group for boys. So they exercise togther. It was so called "open lesson" for parents. They let parents to view lessons two times a year.

This lesson was in December at the end of the first term of "zero" year.

@churchsinger I am very surprise at the different body types. This is not so vaganova...So do they have to audition again for the 1st grade? I guess this is when they choose the "body types"

As about the video we (parents) always get such a possibility when we buy a disk by the professional photographer (it's pretty expensive though). Moreover last year they let us to take video with our own cameras.

One more point: as we didn't manage to enter the Academy this year we learned a lot about other ballet schools. There are just few of them unfortunately. We're learning at the Jakobson's ballet theater at the moment. I'll upload some videos from the new school later.

@gochampions This is the Vaganova Academy. They have renovated, added new courses, and changed things. That's how life goes, things change.

I think htey polka rather well. Stomachs are often still not flat at that age. their heads look well-lifted and turn easily wit hthe transfer of weight to the other foot.. Some of them look very light indeed.

Well, only two girls from this group managed to enter the academy though. t\The commission was big and really strict. The third round was absolutely unbearable psychologically. The girls were trying to do their best but didn't succeed. They wept many days then. By the way, they expel eleven girls from the second year and nine from the third this year

So poignant. Many are called but few are chosen. Is this then THE prep class for hte Vaganova Institute? Two from this class were admitted into the school? Where do the rest of the first-year class come from?

@1psoas9 Many girls came from other places this time. The other possibility to enter will be in August, so a few more girls still have a chance. We also have a good ballet class in another school where the teachers from Vaganova also teach. So the students go to Moscow, Perm or to the other school too.

@LuluLaBallerina by the way, this girls don't usually wear skirts but it was an open lesson for the parents, they demonstrated their very first results, so they were wearing the skirts during the polka. You're absolutely right that girls normally doesn't skirts at the classes.

The teacher used to be a ballerina in Mariinsky theatre for some 20 years, she's really fantastic.

The demands are very strict. There three parts of the entrance examination. The physical evaluation board is the most difficult to pass. The weigh the girls and there are very exact norms which seem absolutely abnormal for a usual person.

The teacher has pretty many girls to work with and correct there mistakes. It must be individual for each person as everyone has their own problems to correct.

I think that's what Western parents find difficult to understand; that children only eat yoghurt for dinner if they're considered overweight. If his mother is worried about his belly then the teacher needs to work on his posture with him. If children aren't eating properly and eating enough they will never have the energy to dance properly.

you know, there are some girls who are considered to be "overweight" so they eat only yogurt as dinner and work pretty hard 5 days a week + training at home in the evening every day. everyone there dreams to enter there. the exams are going to be in June.
