is this normal i have 3 loaches 2 have a saddle coulor patern one is normal the normal one is always at the front (he is the sub dominent) of the tank showing of and the boss and small one are always behind my driftwood and javafern
we have had our clown loaches for years and today i just noticed them doing this my dad knows everything about fish but says hes never seen anything like this i seem to think theyre having wild crazy exotic fish sex
I have 9 loaches in a 180 gallon along with several rainbowfish. Ours do this heiarchy behavior all the time. Especially at feeding time.
Our biggest ones are about 5" with the others not too far behind. The smallest is about 2.5" and we have had them for about 4 yrs now. Lovely, funny, fish.
could u post a link.....have looked on loaches online and it still says no verified breeding in captivity of Chromobotia macracanthus, it may be another type of loach but clown loaches have never proven to be bred in captivity....it is however well documented that they are bred in captivity using hormones and it is now fairly common that half the fish in the stores are probably from hormone breeding...
The loach that was being dominated actualy died a few days after the footage was taken......there is a big mix of specious in this tank from South Americans....Africans... Australian....Asia...try to keep a happy medium with water conditions...and good filtration
They are just sparring to see who's the top "dog". My guys do the same thing. Clown loaches have never been bred in captivity but there is a rumor that one guy did in SE Asia. Check out my loaches tank if you can.
I purchased a couple of Clown Loaches around 8 months ago and they are now doing the same thing. I really had no clue about these fish and how unique they are. I now have a new appreciation for them.I have been doing a lot of research on them since their strange behavior and one of them started getting a potbelly. After reading about them I don't think that I will be having fry anytime soon, but have become more educated on this wonderful species.
i got some loaches one is is about 10 cm other about 80 they change colour and fight and rubb against each other it happends a lot these days any one any ideas
How are they handling themselves in the african tank? They look healthy...but are they getting picked on or can these guys actually take care of themselves? I have 4 of them but not with anything very aggressive - well not yet. I just purchased a pair of small Green Terrors but the tank is 120 gallons and by the time the terrors are big, I'll probably have a 240gallon to move them all into.
My loaches often do this behavior after a large water exchange- especially if I rearranged their tank, and sometimes big weather changes. Its probably a fight for dominance. Since there are only a few known incidences of clowns breeding in captivity, its unlikely they were actually spawning. However, if they actually laid eggs, theres a huge loach community at loaches. com that would love to see this video and any more info you have about it. Also an amazing resource to have!

Actually, it´s not a couting ritual but a pecking order fight, very common in this species.
By the way, they should not been kept with african Cichlids as water conditions for them are quite diferent.

That was not a corutng ritual but a pecking order fight, very common in a school of Clown loaches.
Sorry to hear one of them died, but this tankmates and water parameters are not good to fit Clown loaches standards.

in a crowded african tank, they get forgotten. I like the mix of fish in this tank. No it's not biotopically correct, but it works.
