Would be fun to go back the this period in a time capsule to experience how they lived, but I would need the ability to leave instantaneously as I would probably be accused of being a witch or sorcerer and quickly be executed. These people were all insane by todays's standards.
@asabovesobelow90 Salvation was accepted by the people, you mean. Jesus keeps us free of the law of republic / Moses. "In God we trust". Magna Carta 1297
@jaswinder133 Many people speculate that a group of Greeks migrated, and over time founded the city of Roma, albeit with the leadership of 2 brothers. And of course you can read about the rape of the Sabines to figure out how they ensured they had enough women to begin a vast civilization.
@stephentsang2000 Rome was more of a village at the start and any village is started by few people. The city you live in most likely started when few people started building Houses close to each other.
I have always wondered why Rome didn't move further into Africa than they did. Yeah, I know they ran into deserts but they could have easly carried enough water and food. In another documentary it was said Rome didn't like to get out of an area that would not support olives and Grapes. In other words, they had a hard time dealing with strange environments they didn't understand.
At the turn of the 19th century, far more was known in Europe about North America than Africa. It was still known as the "Dark Continent". The various tribes of Africa were incredibly hostile, the wildlife was as well, and disease was endemic. Any legions sent South of Egypt would have perished.
You say they could easily carry enough water and food. That is, no offense, absolute ignorance. Imagine the logistics involved with procuring water for tens of thousands of men in an environment that is as large as the United States where you need to drink 2 liters an hour to survive. I'm talking about the Sahara Desert, the largest and least hospitable desert on Earth. To venture further into Africa would have meant crossing it.
@Pumarisi124 The USA didn't begin as a melting pot. The vast majority of original American people were of English descent. The Founding Fathers probably spoke with English accents. Only later did people from the rest of the world come.
@largesatsuma sorry have to disagree. America was a melting pot, Dutch,French, English, Irish, Spanish, italian scandanavian and many others, but the founding farthers very likely did speak with an English accent
@CrystalClaritySan Let me tell you bout them sabine women,they lived in pre roman days,it seemed they all went swimmin when their men folks was aways........then along came some civilised romans and raped the bejezus out the women and made them virtual slaves............I so want to hear Howard Keel sing it like it was :)
The entire birth of Rome is a myth that Livy decided on. To suggest that the Romans were so accepting from their beginning is completely ridiculous and not to mention the fact that their later history is largely a story of how intolerance caused conflict.
The city of Rome had a population over 1 million. The aquaducts, sewers, and Roman organization made all this possible. After the fall of Rome in the 5th Century CE, this would not be matched in the West until London of the 1800s. Not bad for a city born of cutthroats and outcasts, eh? But more than anything else, what survives is the IDEA of ROME!
@cyanidepill1 True but in the early days with small populations it probably matter little.
However at some point when the populace got to big is what no doubt gave rise to deadly plagues and diseases. Tho many at that time may have thought it the wrath of God. As in today's world when it comes to aids
Pfff, a bunch of cities...and...concrete? Is that the best you've got?

@pucksterz12 not quite, that happened until Christianity was forced upon them...
it doesn't matter how civilized a country might be, introduce religion and you will completely destroy them...

@dw13371 oh c'mon.. don't keep spreading lies!
Christianity was forced upon the people, that was a political move of course..
that's why they kept some of the ancient gods but replaced their original name with a disgusting hebrew one..
that's why most non catholic christians see catholicism as a pagan religion..
if you're European have some self-respect.
Christianity will never be an European religion.

How the hell on earth could a city be built by 2 persons? Where did the population came from?

@yumagetbullet
Rome was a "village" with a few people? Then it's not a city! The 2 persons were simply building a village.
stephentsang2000 4 months ago
@stephentsang2000 Almost none city is a city at first. All Cities start from few houses. isn't that logical..

@yumagetbullet
But their original intention was not to build a city then.
stephentsang2000 4 months ago
@stephentsang2000 they were the founders of a city. Romulus and Remus is only a legend after all.
