  • One of my fave Bowie songs. It's so dreamy and sexy. Wish he'd played it live more. Also gotta say the Beck version is blissful.

  • I have all davids albums on vinyl :-)

  • I AM A VIRGIN, DAVID

  • I AM A A A A VIRGIN

  • so sexy after all these years

  • Me? I hope that I'm crazy.

  • This song is sexy as fuck

  • Bowie is so winning.....charlie sheen has nothing on the thin white duke.....i love this man.

  • sigma sound! funny charlie sheen line, my brother.

  • Charlie Sheen's theme song since 2010.

  • Not the greatest Bowie fan but I must say that I always thought this was one unusually cool tune.

  • If you play guitar, these chords are superb. Genius.

  • @alexandermorison thank you, said with a respectful bow. wanted to puke when i saw the kind of dribble which randomly dropped much to close to this masterpiece. David Bowie is an artist unequaled in our time, the only one worthy of being mentioned with the great painters and composers of all time. Yeah I dig Sir Elton John but his best words come from another's mind. Think about it Mr. Bowie has no equal, no piers.

  • david bowie live two albulms set... i had the eight track....carlos omar/earl slick...

  • FUCK CHARLIE SHEEN DAVID BOWIE BEEN WINNING!!!

  • Having this played at my funeral

  • this is my favorite bowie album rlght now for sure. usually i go for scary monsters, but i love the concept and these songs are so pleasant. groovy music to start off the summer

  • David taught me it's okay to be different. I look back at all the looks that david had and I realize that He could care less with what people thought of him. Thanks to him, I realized that I don't care either. if people don't like how I am. They can just suck it. ;D Because I'm happy with who i am. Thanks David... for making me see that.(:

  • Besides that the song is wonderful, you have uploaded it in a brilliant sound - is this from the re-release 2007? If so, then I need to get this record immediately, though I have the old record on LP !

  • MEN NO HORSES

  • who needs drugs when you can listen to music like this

  • Comment removed

  • great upload

  • the sound track of my life

  • This track = Perfection.

  • I feel high as a kite when listening to this. I think it's even getting rid of my virus.

  • One of Bowie's catch phrases:

"Someone like you should not be allowed

    To start any fires"

  • @jerste

    with gasolinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeee!!

  • Young Americans was a terrific album. There were so many special songs that were not played on the radio, including Win, Right, and Fascination, which was co-written with Luther Vandross. Those were the days!

  • fantastic plastic soul! wish he had done an entire album of it.

  • @doctorw2 he did ,,its called young americans

  • What a voice...

  • I've still got my original vinyl of this - but of course it's completely scratched! Bought it with several weeks allowance.

  • Saw a great interview w/Bowie during Serious Moonlight tour. When he got clean from drugs he wanted to record a serious R&B album. Seems he started out as an R&B saxaphonist and it was still his favorite music. He went out & hired the best soul/R&B session people he could find. As it turns out one of the backup vocalists was undiscovered Luther Vandross. Once Young Americans was wrapped Bowie saw to it that Luther got a record deal and presto! A future singing legend was born!

    Bowie=truartist

  • Somebody lied.....I say it's hip.....To be alive." that is sooooo cool.

  • The Thin White Duke of Soul.

  • pure gold

  • I found Young Americans on vinyl at an antique convention, and it only just occurred to me that this song is over thirty-five years old. When soul was an actual genre - not just Rihanna and Beyonce shaking their hips, adding a beat and calling it a soul song. Makes me cry how forgotten this music is.

  • @Moroliquo well said.To think I was 16 when I had this album...well....it boggles my mind to think of how blessed I was with the quality of music I was growing up with. I feel so sorry with today's youth,in that respect...

  • @muskokan59 Don't feel sorry! If you have a soul for music, you find songs like this against all odds. When this was my favorite song, Brittney, N'Sync and Three Doors Down were dominating the airwaves. Good people won't settle for bad music :)

  • @cupidandpsycho06 Great point. I shall no longer feel sorry for the youth of today. With all the technology around (YouTube,et al) as well as classic rock radio stations,etc...."where there's a will....there's a way" :)

  • wowwwwwwwww

  • win

  • "David Bowie is back. And he's black!"

I saw on a popular magazine cover. He really did have very credible black vocals. And he was the only white ever on Soul Train. Fantastic song and album.

  • Even at 15, I find myself in love with David bowie, and his music. It's too bad I wasn't there when GOOD music was actually recognized. it seems like artists that aren't even that great get appreciated.

    All hail david bowie. :D

  • @xTokioxHotelx1 Don't completely give up on the music out today, you just might have to look a little harder to find it. One thing is for sure, it will not be on your radio. :( Just recently I stumbled across a band by the name "Museum" by complete accident and I really, really like them. So there are some out there. "Dead Can Dance" is a great band. "Cocteau Twins" and "Delerium" are two more that I love. No, they are not "Bowie", but no one is. Thay do have merit however. Keep looking! :)

  • @Jinxed007 Thanks, Oh and I checked out the bands you listed, I love um! Thanks you. :D

  • I AM A VIRGIN

  • I can't stop playing this over and over and over again. I can't believe I forgot about this. Trouble is my Young American's album is buried somewhere....so it was your typical "out of sight-out of mind" scenerio. Time to download to my ipod....

  • Taking me back to '76 when I bought the album Young Americans. Damn!! So great to hear this again after so many years.. Thanks!!

  • Session girls make this song.. Such wonderful harmonies to a fabulously emotional angst . Bowie masters sex and song..

  • @BWFSabian

Not just girls...Luther Vandross is one of the backup singers!

  • I love this song, thanks for posting, I loved this record so much, still have it!

  • I have loved this song for so long, thanks for posting this.

  • I listened to this beautiful song everyday I had chemo and radiation and it helped me get through it, all you got to do is win right? It brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it, had it when it first come out.

  • slow down,

    beau oui comme Bowie

  • So many great Bowie songs and then I remembered this crackerjack. Bowie was and still is ahead of us all....

  • I grew up in the 70's...Freddie Mercury was my hero, loved all Queen, but had Bowie albums, too...Young Americans, Ziggy, Low, Station, etc....now that I'm 47 (next week), I realize the music that best holds up for me is Bowie.....gorgeous, sexy, innovator. There IS no one else, you're right.

  • Hard to pick among Bowie songs, but this is probably my all time fave...listening for hours on end when I was 14 or 15, on vinyl, headphones on, wondering just how any human being could manage to sound so smooth, sexy and silky.....hypnotic and otherworldly....part of his immense charm.

  • This music made me want to be a singer thirty-five years ago. I would stand in the mirror and sing along with 'David Live' Over the last three decades I've done rock, new wave, punk, psychobilly, pop, glam and more but for the last two years there is only Bowie everyday for me. Can't explain it really but to say no other music moves me like Bowie's. His voice is remarkable and his songs are the soundtrack of the last four decades. There is noone else.

  • AMEN!

  • rock, new wave, punk, psychobilly, pop, glam....

man, your mirror as seen it all huh?

  • epic win

  • this song is full of WIN.

  • Jesus Christ this guy is so awesome my minuscule mind can't comprehend it

  • My favourite Bowie song, no, wait, perhaps "Fantastic Voyage", i like'm all.

  • @motherginsling ditto :)

  • Wow, other people seem to think as much of Bowie as I do! That's great!

  • Wow, so great to read these comments, some great memories! This was my first Bowie album and wow was I blown away, it changed my life forever. I then sold my 10 speed bike to buy (DRUM ROLL) DAVID LIVE! I was never the same. As I write this I am recording a cover of this song. I came in to refresh my memory but really I didn't need to, this is forever burned in my soul. Bowie does that. Yes, he is the most important artist in history, hands down!

  • i cant argue...

  • @MusicCollaborator I really agree. there is no one that can even come close to matching him. No one ever could forget him. No matter what era of his music you grew up on :)

  • gold

  • first time I've heard this ....... this is really " lush" .... beautiful... really represents the "era" of music when it was released ...

  • Mi abuelo me pidio eso antes de irse...Todo lo que tienes que hacer... es, WIN

  • Along with sweet thing and after all this is my favorite bowie song

  • Hi guys, my fave bowie song along with heroes. also check out his track "its gonna be me" his voice at its most soulfull just like on this track.

  • i have that track on my channel :)

  • This is Gail Ann Dorsey's favourite track, complained during tours that it's never done live!

  • I want his sunglasses!

  • I'm really knocked out by the comments on this cut, I always thought it was my little secret!

There was a lot of grumbling about this LP at the time.

  • little secret!! lol

great song.... everybody knows that .... lol

    cheers

  • There is still grumbling about this album; Must admit, after diamond dogs it wasnt what i wanted - but looking back!! Time - The great healer. Some people just can't be "bad" and he's one of em. The greatest artist of my generation 1958 - present

  • little secret!! lol

great song.... everybody knows that .... lol

    cheers

  • Does this song remind anyone else of waking up in a city in America like Chicago or New York with the sun shining bright. and then having an American breakfast..mmm :)

  • What a great picture you paint of this song... As a kid I grew up in a tiny rural town in Pennsylvania. Six kids and little money made for sparse frills in the possession dept. I have vivid memories of piecing together an old turntable and receiver with a pair of headphones. I would sit in my room looking out over our snow-swept back yard with the bluish moonlight glistening off the crystals and listen to Bowie for hours on end. Aladdin Sane, Young Americans, Diamond Dogs... Incredible memories.

  • Same here..my mom had five of us in a housing project in the Twin Cities and my sister was an avid Bowie fan and I distinctly remember this song..it's the dopest still!

  • @Jinxed007 Similar, but i was a kid growing up in a remote part of Scotland. My head was in outer space tho, listening to Bowie.

Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station and Low were my faves and still do it 2day (nearly 40 yrs later!!).

This is one of the best, still the very best.

    Xx

  • @averilleX It's just great to know that one of my favorite songs has reached out and touched others in the same way.

  • @Jinxed007 damn you just shot me back to those days ---somehow those songs made it all okay ---

  • @Jinxed007 Fantastic! Got about the same history.. in Norway.

  • @podingtonbear

Oh yeah. I used to wake up in San Francisco and put this song on. I know exactly what you mean, that rising saxaphone line, the morning sun, coffee, dancing, that's one snapshot of the 80s for me.

  • Bowie started it all.

  • God - Thats beautiful. This was a 12th floor council flat in industrial Birmingham for me. With music like this and sweet thing, somehow it didnt matter. Your view sounds so much more interesting and picturesque.

I've been to Pennsylvania. You must know that you were lucky?

  • My absolute favorite song by Bowie. I still have the original RCA vinyl release with the lyric sheet printed on the sleeve. If ever there were such a thing, this song is magical. Put on a pair of the old style, large headphones, dim the lights and play this song... It takes you away from pretty much everything. Fascination and Somebody Up There are two other songs that grabbed me from a young age. Spectacular album in all respects.

  • I agree...

  • total agreement

  • Pour moi, David bowie c'est les années 70 et 80 mais je trouve que dans les années 90 c'est bien mais ce n'est pas ce que c'était.

  • Wow I love Bowie so much and still there are all these treasures I did not know,so cool..

  • Same here, I have just fell in love with him all over again :)

  • Right is a great song too, if you haven't heard it yet

  • Stratospheric!

    Voice*****

    Music***** Je décolle!

  • A standout song from his best album.

  • David Sanborn on saxophone.

  • @mjlbdad and Luther Vandross backing vocals.

  • Sweet !

  • Well produced. Terrific track

  • This is my favourite David's song and I don't know but I can listen on and on and on....!!!

    Fabulous atmosphere,awesome sax,Luter and Diana's voices.I feel that I have temperature and want instantly to have sex!!!!Blow song,eternilly and outrageous!!!!!ONE WORD-BEYOND!!!

  • This is David`s finest 5 mins a total masterpiece.

  • I want to dance to this song at my wedding!

  • love it

  • The older I get the more I love this guy's music.Such an awesome talent....plus his hair is always so dashing and beautiful....

  • I'm not sure for his hair... especially after Young American :P

  • This song from the Young American album really shows the depth of Bowie's genius. Now hear this then go way back and listen to say All the Madmen. The thing about genius is they make it look so simple. Plus Bowie use of the saxophone on the Young Americans album IMHO is the best of any of his albums...

  • I'm pretty sure that's not Bowie on sax. Bowie plays the sax more tamely than what's to hear on young americans.

For instance, I'm pretty sure Bowie plays Iggy Pop's song "Tiny Girls"...which is very different in playing style from what we can hear on young americans.

  • His voice is awesome. I'm moved by this beautiful song.

  • Still his best!

  • Sorry about spelling No word check

  • My favourite Bowie. Secret thinker sometimes lisrning out loud!! Shakespeare would be jealous of these lyrics. He could live a hundred years, but this is his Hamlet!

I ain't saying nothing about the sax or produstion.

Sorry, every one has a fav Bowie. This is mine.

    JB

  • it aint over......wow

  • right

  • It's amazing to hear the Luther Vandross influence in the vocals on this album and later listen to Luther on his own albums. Bowie definitely knew talent when he heard it.

  • yes

  • I think it's his BEST song-Thank-You for posting!

  • awesome

  • all you got to do is WINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

  • love this!

  • Classic!

  • Comment removed

  • Young Americans was the start of the cocaine.. Station to Station was wrote on heavy cocaine use, never the less two of the best albums ever made, ever.

  • in the midst of it...ebay item-190233596894

  • I rember when young americains album came out many Bowie fans did not like it. I fell in love with it straight away.

  • What is the best Bowie? So hard to decide then I hear this classic from 75' they are all good so I guess when we listen to any Bowie song the fan's always " win" wouldn't you say...

  • win definitely and i love ALL his stuff from his unreleased german recordings and other stuff but to me young americans especially this track is some of his best definitely

  • I saw him in 74 and 76. go ahead and start hating me:) And yes, it was unbelievable, I just cannot express how much it changed the way I think in a very good, creative way. I will never never forget it.

  • lucky...

  • dejanthoris -

I saw him a few years later. It was cool to have seen the guy finally. And yeah, this is one of his best songs from one of his best albums.

  • This is one of my all time favorite Bowie songs! Love his voice.

  • Is this not Bowie at his best?

  • I love this song.

  • have u ever notice how beck kinda redid this on the song debra???bowie is the man

  • Beck only did on the intro. Other than that Debra is a really different song.

  • tru tru are u a big bowie fan i heard bowie plays drums i was wondering if theres ne tracks with him on drums

  • I love Bowie. I'm not sure about the drums. I've never heard of that! I'll have to look into that.

  • im really feeling station to station i jus got into it im 20 and i wish i born like 50 years ago haha

  • He plays drums on Cactus from the Reality album, and I know he plays a lot of the instruments on the Diamond Dog CD, but I'm not sure about the drums in particular. He does do the guitar on Rebel, Rebel it is often reported.

  • he does guitar on the whole Diamond Dogs Album. And here Andy Newmark is on the drums

  • Young Americans is a really underrated album,

    love this song.

  • although i incredibly love all the other Bowie albums, Young Americans has taken the #1 spot on my favorite Bowie albums. I mean his voice in that album is just, damn, it's too amazing for words. It's a big diffrence from Ziggy and others, but damn good.

  • Awesome, Awesome.. Mis-placed the Young Americans C/D somewhere, thanks for the tune..BJBE
