It was a civilisation not based on empire building as all ancient civilisations were - though that did come later. but arose from the true religious beliefs of its people that gave rise to its greatness. @amaqula The spread of the black plague was due to the lack of cats due to Christians killing them believing them to be from the devil (which is bad enough already) killing rats who carried fleas. By the way another reason Christianity set us back so much is that the library of Alexandria was burned by Christians and we lost about 1000 years of knowledge. Oh and by the way the roman empire was much more prosperous than the dark ages following.

Genetic mutations are genetic science - quantifiable observable and predictable - the staples of science. Evolution is a theory about natural history - and history is not quantifiable and it is not science. Also humanism has made no advances - just undermined the great Christian Western Civilisation - and brought it to the abyss on its lies. The Church began to lose influence ONLY in Protestant lands after the Reformation. The Church fostered music like nobody else. The greatest musicians wrote their greatest works at the behest of the Church to the Glory of Christ.
