O ya, how could you think that Hindi could be an International language? Literate hindi comes from Shanskrit - not your regional punjabi or gujrathi, or bombay tapori language. hindi and urdu BOTH have grammatical structures based on Khari Boli dialect of Delhi, significant amoutn of loan words from Persian, Arabic, Sanskrit, Turkish, and even Portuguese. They in fact were virtualy the same language until "Urdu" was standardized in te late 1600s and Hindi in the early 1800s. They only diverge with respect to script, higher level vocab, and in rare cases grammar.

Punjabi is one of the region languages of Pakistan. Its not much different than Urdu. Too bad you don't understand Punjabi otherwise you could have watched a few Pakistani Punjabi movies too. They rock just as well as Pakistani Urdu movies.

I think that's fair enough. But it's a matter of dialect. The "Bollywood dialect" if you will, does resemble Urdu in many ways (pronunciation/vocabulary). Now, is it right to call Bollywood speech Urdu? No, but it is somewhat of a transitional dialect between proper Urdu and proper Hindi.

@khansahb8 That's another perspective on it. But I believe that Hindi and Urdu are nothing more than an extreme case of digraphia. The more 'refined' forms of each of them are mutually unintelligible, but then you never find any Hindi speaker saying 'shalyakar ne taap-mapak se mera taap napa' neither would any Urdu speaker be heard saying 'Mahir-e-zarahat ne ala-e-paimaieshe-hararat se mera darza-e-hararat napa'. Everything in between (the 'real' Hindi and Urdu) is common to both the languages.

I take no pride in a language I can't understand (ie: excessively Persianized Urdu). The common vernacular forms of the language are the best because that's what people actually understand.
