During the highest speed of the chase, the girl should have shoved the gear shift into reverse just to see what would happen. And by the way, she screams like a girl.
@OsakaBancho All I'm sayin', is if you have an old '70's Plymouth ex-cop car, and you're going about 40 mph and slam it into reverse, it WILL go into reverse!
Don't ask me how I know... and kids, don't ever try that on your basic car, you'll be sure to break the output shaft of the transmission.
You're probably right, though, OsakaBancho, most cars will probably lock out reverse above a certain speed.
Cops climbing out of their car in a swamp and angrily thumping fist on roof. If that's not a signature American car chase moment I don't know what is.
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest car chases in cinema history. The roaring Gran Torino, the beautiful southern backdrop, the spot-on soundtrack but most of all, Barry fucking Newman behind the wheel. Take that, Bullit!
@ultrachasersfan i know what you mean. but if they had cgi back then, maybe the crash scenes wouldve been animated and we would have more classics around today
@tpvalley I liked The Matrix, but when I saw the 2nd movie & the guy punching the car hood I turned it off, & never saw the 3rd. I love a good car chase, & not a pile of special effects. The 7 ups, Bullitt, The French Connection, & European films with the old underpowered Fiats zipping down narrow streets. . Remember The crazy Blues Brothers car chase! Special effects added to the script, not replaced it.
@krisduboy Barry Newman, he's a pretty good actor especially for the more silent parts like Kowalski in Vanishing Point. Both are excellent movies as well I must say, its a shame we don't get movies like this made anymore (not likely anyway)
or a 68 catalina like hatsorus said i'm just guessin. one scence you can see the grill it looks like a long name like bonneville. i've worked on older cats 61 62 and 70 ferbirds. looks like it be as cool movie as vanishing point.
Great film. Finally released on DVD. The continuity was laughable. The car would get all busted up during a chase and then in the next scene the damage was gone. Still a great movie.
0:39, brown Hillman Avenger (A.K.A. Plymouth Cricket) spotted parked up on the right. Who'd have thunk a little four pot motor could have crept into a car chase like this?
No it wasn't in the chase. Quite right. Its just that some classic car fans notice old, obsolete and now rarely seen cars wherever they might pop up. Pick up Practical Classics, Classics Monthly or any number of other classic car publications and usually there'll be some old black and white picture of a scene from the past chock full of old cars and the editor is picking out what models are in the scene. I just thought it was odd to spot an old British family car in a U.S. movie, thats all.
He is referring to the scene in Dirty Marry Crazy Larry at the flea Market where the guy talks about the 351 cleveland in the charger line. Real gear heads know this.
@SirRoxo depends on the car... many of the 2000-2006 cars and trucks especially ford and dodge werent manufactured as liable cars... they were made to look sporty... the best years for any car/ truck was 1963- 1985... then again at 1992-1997
Oktwo intersting thing that are cool, first he is the guy from VANISHING POINT a very famous movie i love and what type of road was that is the last sagment a wood road? from the swamp any info?
this the same cat from vanishing point? nice to see him tear up a ford instead of a mopar for a change...and if he would have hit that uber sweet green fury when he got on the ferry i would have built a time machine went back to when and where they filmed this and bitch slaped him...nice scene though
Not "Vanishing point" so much as "Swamp Sweat"! A good chase though with Roy Budd providing a superb piece of Music which features Ronnie scott on sax.
Did they use just one car? There is a slight continuity error with the damage in Part 2 but it could still be the same car. It may not be a Challenger but these Torinos are tough as old boots.
