I seriously disagree with those far right "Christians" and Republicans from the South who interpreted the Bible as God favoring slavery and segregation and that 'God hates Niggers.' This is like those "Christians" or Republicans who interpreted the Bible in saying "God hates Soldiers," and "God hates fags." Where's the love of the Lord in all this?
continuing off...And as a Christian bisexual, there's no difference between my sins to that of a hermaphrodites, transgendered, homosexuals, or heterosexals. We're all sinners and the bottom line of the Gospel is to love, love God, and love thy neighbor.
I'm bisexual, I like the ideals of the Republican Party, but I seriously disagree with Republicans in this one area. I believe everybody has the right work to put a roof over their head and bread on the table, and to their partiotism and that includes serving their country in the military.
As a Bisexual Christian, I realize the Lord Jesus loves me for who I am. "Come as you are" as most churches in American would tell their members. And for a straight, person to tell me to stop my bisexuality would be the same thing as me asking that straight person to stop his/her hetersexuality.
If you think gays staying in the closet will keep some children from growing up to be gay then I have some swamp land I'd like to sell you. Being gay just happens and no one is sure why. It certainly isn't being exposed to gay people. Maybe you should stay in a closet to protect yourself from bad influences.
Gays are FREAKS and misfits. Die of Aids for all I care but I will teach my children to treat you as one of Gods children that will not make it to heaven.
for you, i would suggest staying away a church, that place where "gods children" and "heaven" taught. churchs are filled with preists and in case you forgot, but theres a bunch of GAY priests thatll RAPE your little bundles of joy and one day theyll grow up to be just as hateful and prejiduce as your dumb ass
Most Republicans, Conservatives and Fundamental Christians, could be legally and most certainly psychiatrically and medically, diagnosed as Sociopaths and/or Psychopaths. Not only that, but these people are Capitalistic Imperialistic Terrorists who should be removed from America, they are ruining the United States of America, and they are ruining the World.
God...the idiocy of some of these responses (you know who you are). Bean asked a very valid question that is both valid and should be answered as this country has slipped into something other than a true secular state. That said, it does not in any way make a case for displacing any of the multitude of other important questions/issues in need of answer and attention, either. Enough said.
In a broader context the question refers to:separation of church/state and equal/civil uman rights.
"First they came for the Communists but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists but I was not one of them, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews but I was not Jewish so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me."
I agree, typical liberal. He is more interested in his own addiction to sex than other things going on in the world. Keep it in the closet where it belongs. You choose this lifestyle, you deal with the consequences.
Why do you presume that gays choose their sexuality? I presume you are straight - did you have to choose not to be gay? (because that is a reasonable extrapolation of your logic...)
Yup, the war is being lost in Iraq so let's not keep the U.S. Christian fundies from getting their kicks by gay-bashing...it's one of their few pleasures, after all.
The man was not asking whether the war on terror could have an intermission so that he could tongue-bathe the Willy-Wonka...he was asking whether the Republican candidates thought that bigotry against homosexuals by religious types was justifiable. He is not asking to be defined by his sexuality anymore than Rosa Parks was asking to be defined by her race.
Republican will never race this issue head on, they are too wiley. They will all say they are so terribly against any kind of discrimination. Then behind the scenes they send out vicious hate mailers (like the lie about banning the Bible) and Matt Drudge attacks on gays. It is all so sick and twisted.
A very important question for the candidates that needs to be addressed. This is no time to sit idle and let your future pass you by. Please choose this question.
The Republicans won't veer from their devisive hate based bigotry because they know they can pander to the worst of people's fears and prejudices to obtain votes. You just have to see the "scare America witless" with lies about WMD's to get a war in Iraq. Nothing changes, because the young conservatives swallow hook line and sinker all the lies their respectable elders spoonfeed them. This question won't be asked, nor answered in conservative GOP circles, sadly.
The question is poignant and speaks directly to the issue. However, unless politicians dare to do the right thing and respond with their hearts, I fear that Billy's very worthwhile question will be met with political doubletalk--gee, what's new?
Great Question, as is the Mulder family's. I'm hoping that at least one (let's count on both) make the debate as the Republicans need to face up to their vote-mongering based on bigotry and diviseness. But the real question is, will they?
I hope this question gets in. It's an excellent one - along with a very similar question by the Mulder family, whose son was brutally murdered for being gay.
While I don't expect much at all from the GOP where GLBT rights are concerned (based on the vast majority of that party's elected representatives), I hope that Mr. Bean gets a humane & considered response & not just the typical conservative "love-the-sinner-hate-the-sin" line. The owners of this party don't allow any straying from the usual canned response.
Of course it's a great question, but for Democrats and Republicans (and "Independents" like LIEberman). The only honest answer for ALL of the current candidates would be "yes." But you can ignore what they say -- instead, just judge them by their actions. In this sense, I find all of the debates a complete waste of time.
Excellent question - If CNN were smart, they would include this in their questions - Congrats on making a question. I did one for the Democrats along a very similar theme (Theocracy vs. Democracy) Glenn (friend of S Mc)
Republican candidates will no doubt treat this as a "curved ball" ... but a very good question from an "out" former MLB player. Alas, it will take a very honest candidate from "God's Own Party" to address this issue. I am not holding my breath!
Billy, thanks for asking a question that every Presidential candidate needs to answer. CNN/YouTube please make sure that this video makes the cut. It's an important question that many Americans are asking - gay & straight. It deserves a responsible and honest answer by the next President of the United States.
Thanks, Billy, for asking the question. As a Christian Pastor who also happens to be lesbian, I am interested in hearing what stand each candidate will take concerning my religious and civil freedoms in this country. I hope your question is one of those that is selected for the debate.
Good question!!! I have to agree with Desmond Tutu's view on this issue:"If God as they say is homophobic I wouldn't worship that God...It is a perversion if you say to me that a person chooses to be homosexual. You must be crazy to choose a way of life that exposes you to a kind of hatred. It's like saying you choose to be black in a race infected society"
Great question! I am continually amazed at how people who profess to be the children of God and want to teach everyone to "love thy neighbor" are many times the same people preaching hatred based on sexual orientation. I keep hoping more people will see the hypocrisy of this. I hope your question makes the debate as it would be GREAT to see the responses!
Religion is good; bigotry is horrendous - the source of much intolerance, hatred and of many wars. I suspect that many politions who promote intolerance for gays avoid addressing more important and immediate issues - like poverty, education and wars. Others are simply primitive, uneducated, hateful people who hide their ugly feelings under the Republican, ultra-conservative mantle. I am curious to see how the Republican candidates will answer Billy's question. Good question, Billy!
thank you billy
