I like the audio clip at the end, from ATWAS, right? As for buying this album, I have the CD, and more importantly, I have it on vinyl, bought it new in 1984, the year I saw my first Rush show! Still have the concert program, too. Such a great song from such a great album, best sound of the 80s. And a great job you've done on the guitar, man, top notch.
Love it!!! One of my favourites. I wanted to learn this one so badly many years ago but didn't have the skills. Now I have the skills and found this....and now I can play it...after 10 minutes!!!! Thanks so much dude. Excellent playing and sound. Cheers.
Mike, just a fucking awesome job! Man, I gained a new appreciation for guitaring (yeah, I mad that word up) by watching this vid. I'm going to find a way to jam with you and andre one of these days!
Wow, everytime I watch this video, I feel I have to turn around and start playing my keyboards with you and I do. Great guitar player with all the feel of a true musician. Rock on my friend, rock on....
Excellent guitar work!! Nice video! I love the swells you put in there. Funny how everyone on here plays this song a little differnt than the next, Alex is the chord master. I really enjoyed your video, your spot on... If you get time check out the solo I did to AfterImage...Again, great job on this one. Keep em coming!!
You have incredible talent. It's amazing how much you sound like Alex. I was wondering if the neighbors complain about the loud music. If they do, they don't know how lucky they are. I wish my neighbor's would play Rush....... :)
@gibsonplayer8 The camera is a sony handycam but I don't record using that anymore (earlier vids were done by recording from the Line 6 POD XT Live directly into the camera) but now I record the video with the cam, but record the audio via a digidesign mbox2 to the PC using ProTools. Thanks for stopping by to watch and listen :)
Michaelangelo! Very nice work! It's amazing how much you sound like Alex! Really enjoy your videos! Your website looks great too! Keep up the great work!!!
Fortunately, he doesn't know that I have the bobble heads, too. They're in the box out in my garage. I played in a Rush wannabe' band back in '99-'00 with a drummer that played and LOOKED like Neil. Our bassist was a Steve Harris disciple, but picked up Geddy Lee, remarkably, in a snap. That left me devouring the Rush Tablature Project home page for guitar tabs and I worked my tail off to keep up w/ them. We just practiced individually all week and got together on Sundays to play. Awesome.
It all came together one afternoon. We had all been working on Afterimage, but none of us were sure we could pull it off. So, we just went for it. Tape rolling. The bassist had some really cool synth effect going that sounded just like the synth bass line. The drummer locked in, and I had an out of body experience on the axe. It was cool, because we knew it was happening and we just sort of went with it. The playback in the car on the way home was unbelievable. We just needed a vocalist.
My little boy is 4. He, for whatever reason, loves Afterimage by Rush. So, when he asks me to play it, I go to YouTube and he insists I play this clip of the song. No joke. Keep on rockin'.
This is excellent. Very well made and performed. Nice creative touch with the bobbleheads. I will check out your other stuff- Brent Elliott Lincoln NE
Sos muy bueno. Congratulations !!! I played this song with my drums for years but my peers could not played so I had no one to play it with.... was very frustrated to put the LP and play it on it
Love this song Mike.Ive lost someone dear to me and when I miss her i play this song and rock out. You never get over something like that so you kinda become friends with it .:)
There is NO ONE who can do RUSH cover songs like you..........I enjoy listening and watching you play! I'd pay to watch you all play a concert of nothing but RUSH cover songs! Thanks for giving me the inspiration to keep working on my guitar techniques.............you nailed it on this song!!
Bravo snowdog, if ever a show where Alex cant perform, I do hope he gives you the quick call. Keep up the good work and love what you do with your individual as well as Virtually Rush projects!
just excellent..you nail the midsection so well...as the tone is great with what sounds like not much equipmt. How did you get that delay/reverb so close without losing the clarity and definition? I love that GUP tone. One of my fav alex solos.
This was my favorite track up until my hearing of Territories. Amazing job, I've probably watched all your vids and loved 'em all/ You are an amazing talented musician, and I'm glad to see another appreciate Alex as I do. He's underlooked. C''mon, without Alex things just would sound glued together right. Can I ask for a request for the greatest band ever? Can you maybe possibly do Territories (Power Windows)?
Oh yeah Brother! My fav Alex solo ever and you nailed it!
Two guys with the most taste and sensibility in their solos Alex and David Gilmour... both guys I can not imagine anyone else tackling their solos and hitting the same tone and feeling... until you nailed this one, and my fav to boot... props SDUK
This is the kind of Rush stuff that seems so easy when you listen to it then watch this and you realize how incredibly brilliant and underrated Alex is!
Snowmutt, as always, your videos get better each and every time, and let me add, not only does the quality of each presentation improve, but your playing is equally impressive.
Thanks to you, I've been inspired to learn yet another rush song, complete with an awesome video tutorial!
Hi xyz... I don't actually use a real amp for these videos, I use a modelled amp from a Line 6 POD XT Live. I feed the output of that directly into my camera mic. input.
alright, I'm jealous !!! I wish I had some white blinds covering up a blank wall at my place-oh, by the way, very nice chops on this one- you must have alot of patients( or is it patience ) 1st to learn it that well and then record a video so nicely.
actually Ben it didn't take that long to learn and the more you use the video software the easier that becomes too... one of these days I may just show you what is behind that blind... ;) thanks for your comments, always welcome
your guitar playing is amazing, and the way you edit your videos keeps it much more interesting and fresh. Most cover videos are just one person in the same spot and angle for the song and it bores me after a while!
Even my cover videos are like that and I wish I could have more than one camera going lmao.
That's a really satisfying comment to receive because it was one of my goals from the outset, to produce videos that are (hopefully) as interesting to watch as they are informative on how to play the tunes. Each video should improve on the last and if you go back and look at my earlier attempts, you will see a huge difference in visual and audio quality. Many thanks for such a cool comment :-)
Absolutely fantastic work once again, this is one of my all-time favourites and you completely nailed it. The tone is spot on as always, I'd never even realised that those swells in the middle were Alex's guitar, I thought it was synth. Man you're the only other Rush guitar cover artist on youtube worth commenting on in my books. AMAZING job on this one. Just wanted to give you a small pointer though. At 2:16 when you do that part back and forth on the G and A, make sure you fully bar the A the second time and backpick the E and B strings. Listen for it on the album. You can barely hear it but it's there.

I've seen that in a tab somewhere and I didn't play it because I don't think it contributes anything to the part, the keyboard is so dominant and as you say, you can hardly hear it. The riff itself is difficult to get right in sound and feel, I looked at tabs for it but didn't use any of them, preferring to use the octave and mute combination. This gives a heavy feel and is polished off by use of the whammy. Best Wishes to you BASSPOPS
