This is insane! You have monster grip strength. I bet part of the reason you made this look so easy was your grip! How did you develop such a strong grip?
What I dont understand, when I do this exercise, when I flip the kettlebell over the top, the round part of the kettlebel hits the back of my wrist/lower forearm. What am I doing wrong?
@PengPengBoateng2 imagine in a simple term, punching. but with the kettle bell ball to be in the center rotation position, while the handle swings around the center of the bell. instead of the ball around the handle.
imagine kettle bell contact juggling, be smooth with the movement, but powerful.
you look pretty lean, some people look huge? do you keep you reps low for strengh without bulk? I dont no what the perfect reps are for strengh only, without looking big, I already 6,4 tall so bulking up for me is out the question.
@MikeEves1 Maybe you never heard of tendonitis, it is a vile injury that can spoil your quality of life for years. Its easy to get in the wrists and elbows and you cant even lift a cup of tea....
@SuperMangn There are many things that cause tendonitis - mainly over training. This occurs in all sports and exercises so I'm not sure what your motivation is for advising kettlebell users and for singling them out? Perhaps you are on a crusade to advise all sports videos of his fact? If so have a go at all racket sports too. Crucially though, people have a rite (not a privilege) to train how they wish, how often they want and at what intensity. As London KB says - they do it for themselves.
@SuperMangn No more dangerous than any contact sport. Some people's glasses are half empty some people's are half full. We all have choices in life. Our H & S manager bangs on about manual handling the whole time - he's obese, breaths heavy and smokes - you tell we what's more dangerous?
If in the future I bash myself up with a kettlebell I'd consider it a medal of honour. ha ha. But that's my choice.
@MikeEves1 If you like dangerous lifts then I can help you in that area. The 6 times Mr Olympia Dorian Yates from the UK used to do a lift called a standing deadlift which is just holding on to a heavy barbell and lowering it then lifting it while keeping your legs straight. It will make your lower back beastly strong and powerfull and your girlfriend will love it if you know what I mean....
@SuperMangn Yep, use deadlifts like you describe too. And yes my wifey loves it. (unless she is faking) . Although I prefer high volume timed sets, circuits, plyojumps, sledgehammer on a tyre, handstand pressups. If anybody asks me what the best exercise is? The one you actually do. If you don't like it you won't do it or you'll give up.
Depends on the current cycle too - can't beast yourself everday - need R & R.
@MikeEves1 I see you do high volume but what do you think about H.I.T methods that use one to three sets of intense lifts and then rest for three or more days ?
@SuperMangn I'm not really into sets and reps (not against it just not useful for what I want). I tend to do timed sets rather than counting reps. Not into body building either, again not my thing. I want power endurance. I increase the intensity as the cycle I'm on progresses then taper off towards the end to avoid over training and to peak. Works for me as I want fast recovery rates working the body as one unit. Mix it with doubles on the skipping rope and a bit of Tabata.
@MikeEves1 To train effectively and safely for power endurance you've got to start form the bottom. If you haven't already of course. I do not know you but i mention it just in case.1)you must develop a SOLID foundation of Strength[Maximal weights, very low reps]2)you move on to Strength Endurance[light weights for high reps] 3) then you go for increasing your power[mid weights, mid reps, explosive movement. kettlebells are ideal for this] then finally you can go to power endurance{continued..}
@MikeEves1 ...power endurance[same as power with kettlebells BUT as the word says you've got to be able to sustain your power output for long periods of time. But this is very stressfull and you really should have a good level to all the above before you train power endurance. I don't say you don't, just keep that in mind.
Hope i helped. But you may already know all that and i wrote all of this for nothing xD
@psolarhidi I agree: without a solid base, physical allignment, technique, strength and aerobic threshold: it would be foolish to go straight for power endurance. A novice or even a someone halfway through a cycle would not be able to cope anyway. Power endurance is, however, a good goal to work to rather than a random set of exercises repeated over and over again.
A request for advice from seasoned Kettlebell lifters: how can I start working out with kettlebells, preferably using DVD's or instructional guides as opposed to an instructor, which I cannot currently afford? Thx for serious responses.
had about 53kg on a standard barbell but its much harder as its ripped straight from the floor unlike the kettlebell. barbell was also much smaller plates than olympic discs. ill get a vid up soon!
i weighed about 74kg and have just ordered a 55kg for snatching and a 65kg for cleans-my aim is to 1 arm clean bodyweight this year, videos to follow soon.
thanks tomp2400, been training bells for near on 8 years. i now do more powerlifting and strongman than bells but will be starting some competition style training with them soon for some high reps and big lifts! vids to follow
Respect to you. You are very strong for your size. But this is not a classical snatch repetition. You do not rest your kettlebell on the shoulder. Anyway, you are strong, but do not call this a snatch.Respect. Marc
thanks Marc, i wasnt performing a classic snatch - i split the lowering in order to minimise lower back impact on the down swing. the snatch was the up part- same as olympic lifting. i perform classical only for numbers and set times tests.
Actually, to my understanding this is the way the snatch was originally performed for GS. They changed it because competitors were going forever and people were falling asleep in the stands. It was referred to as a 'health snatch' or 'half snatch'. So it is a snatch.
Rrrrrespect! Just took delivery of my 32KG and getting to grips with that. Makes me truly appreciate the strength required to do what you're doing with that 50kg! Good work! :-)
That is great. What's interesting is that it's not the typical RKC Swing Snatch but closer to what I call a KB Snatch. The higher weight is making you use a vertical pull instead of the swing out, great job

good work, but these are half snatches, for a snatch you need to let the weight drop the full distance
