What I like so much about this video is that, it's not just how Steve plays, but also how they managed to compose with the violins, rhythm guitar, drums and bass. I just get goosebumps after 1:50.

Well. This acoustic thing he has going is actually amazing. I can't blame any of you though for not hearing why this is amazing. Most of us are not musically gifted enough to hear the transitions and harmonics he has going. For the select few that can hear it tho, it sounds truthfully amazing. Plus if your used to his electric playing, this is different sounding, but why hate change? Get off the mainstream crap and listen to real music. Unless you compose something better to show, don't hate

That comment was directed at people who dis Steve and say he should stay on the electric guitar. As far as that comment goes, how is it bs? Because as far as I know, most people don't understand the theory behind this. The transitions you hear in this are set in a way that it fits. Some people would listen to it and say it's crap due to the odd chord/notes

Thus is my mistake, I did intend to mean that if people are hear to solely listen to the music, one may not enjoy this work as people have demonstrated below. I actually completely agree with your original statement. It's true- people who listen to purely mainstream music do shut a lot of 'musical doors'. My friends listen to mainly mainstream stuff, and they simply don't get anything that has a slightly odd timing or interesting chord progression- that stuff being what I listen too, i.e Steve Vai- Dream Theater etc.

Sure you, could have phrased it nicer but you were honest, and there really are people who cant grasp this kind of stuff.

This music is more complex, but many people start off listening to simpler music, and then transfer over and learn musical theory, and get into more unique progressions and so on.

Presumably you mean harmonies? Not only is this harmonically simpler than lots of his music - he spends most of the track jamming over the same bass note - its harmonies are far easier to comprehend than those found in even the simplest jazz. Oh, and for the record, I'm not hating on Vai, I'm hating on you.

However, you are incorrect: this song probably uses exactly the same guitar he used 11 years earlier in the studio; this song WAS intended to be acoustic

Solo digo que con Dave, Steve puede prescindir de un frontman de apoyo tan virtuoso como McAlpine ya q Weiner puede hacerlo bien. Es más, en la banda actual las armonías la hacen los violines y Tony no tendría una función específica, excepto los teclados.
