  • Master class, because even the masters see it and go :O

  • John Entwistle is my God

  • haha, its funny how he talks bout playing riffs and chords and then he starts some solo lead fill ins, nd im like :O

  • entwistle really has found his toy with these four strings

  • I like the Marshall stack in the back!

  • That's an Ibanez bass he's playing! Nice...:)

  • John Entwistle is the greatest bass player to have ever lived. nobody will ever be as good as him.

  • OK John. I'll just enjoy your playing. Having John Entwistle teach you how to play like he does is kind of like having Tiger Woods explain how to hit a drive 350 yards. Sounds great in theory. These guys have spent their entire lives practicing and perfecting their technique. 30 years from now I'll probably have this down :)

  • and that is why bass is cooler than guitar

  • never understood why people said this sounded like a guitar

  • "hi i'm giant whistle"

  • Holy fuck!!!

  • @ 7:19, Oh my god ... he broke the camera....

  • I used to play like this, but then I took an arrow to the knee

  • @pwnerinator you used to tell crap jokes, but then you got a slap round the face

  • Lead.. bassist..? Whhaahttt?

  • Thanks for posting this!!!!!!!!!!

  • The man is a Fu#kin beast !!!! Pete ALWAYS bragged him up! He said he played the bass like an "organ". GREAT loss :(

  • John is and always will be the greatest fucking bass guitarest ever.

  • Jesus, you people are FU**ED. There was nothing like his playing before him.

  • This guy can shred with the bass.

  • God must be proud of having the god of gods (and bass :D) up in heaven.

  • notice it says bass GUITAR. Not bass.

  • @Cartoonkid111 Since it is a bass guitar thats not really that strange

  • Lol, I love how he just starts playin some random shit, and this really shoddy lookin sheet music pops up for like a second then just disappears.... I'm imagining some poor bastard who had to transcribe it, and just picked random licks to transcribe.

  • Hello I Am John Entwistle. Here is a Bunch Of noise and effects..............Greatest Bass player EVER! bar none.

  • @SmokeBojangles yea u douche, i hello I am SmokeBojangles. Here is a hatefull comment and bunch of jelousy........ Geratset internet troll EVER! bar none.

  • @burito95 How is calling the greatest bass player in the world the greatest bass player in the world Being a Douche? You must have a thing For Feminine Hygiene products.

  • LMAOO! put on transcribe audio, it is hilarious

  • Bit of a 'Magic Bus' jam going on (starting at 13:15.) On the 1994 video '30 Years Of Maximum R&B', John said that it was the Who song that he most hated playing over everything else!!

  • he isn't really "playing" any music. how does any of this apply to a song? he's dinkin' around on the thing like it's a toy. not such a great tone, either. I too like treble, but this is off the hook.

  • Eyes see bass, ears hear guitar, mind is blown.

  • @MrHellothisisme

    That's 90% distortion.

  • @MrHellothisisme Agreed..he was always more of a lead guitarist in style and execution than the traditional bassist...and he made no bones about it...his independence of right hand fingering came from his experience playing an orchestral brass instrument..I believe English or French horn...

  • @fretsbru It was the French horn. When he started his musical training as a kid, he wanted to play the trumpet, and there weren't any left, so he took a French Horn. Most of the horn sections on Who-songs (Overture, Whiskey Man, 5:15) are played by John... Yes, I've seen the documentaries ;)

  • @MrHellothisisme My Wife

  • @radcam69 yeah, forgot that one, great song!

  • @MrHellothisisme

Eyes see bass, ears see bass, mind still blown

  • I've heard that he was almost totally deaf. Just as deaf as Pete but different `cause of the bass frequencies. No ringing in the ears. Just deafness.

  • @TerraceYouth Pete said that although his hearing loss was bad, John was so deaf he needed a hearing aid to "just order a tuna sandwich. " Wonder if the distorto trebly tone of the last few years was a result of his deafness? Maybe couldn't hear the low frequencies in a loud band mix?????

  • Excellent. Love this Frank

  • what bass is john playing with?

  • @oblv ,that is an Ibanez bass

  • legend (but i prefer his tone from the Who days, i.e. Live at Leeds)

  • @zenlee1109 Nothing like a fender bass with rotosound strings run through a marshall or hiwatt with no effects whatsoever with the the volume cranked

  • In this video and most of his later career, he makes his bass-not sound like a bass at all.

  • I bought this video and wore it out to see his licks. It was simple as could be musically but holy shit it rocked and I learned more about my instrument than years of lessons. Love Thunder Fingers! The Ox is alive!

  • THUNDERFINGER!

  • I love entwistle but this sounds like distorted random notes noise.

  • @marazm1 I totally agree with you. He went with this sound for the last 10-15 years of his life. I play bass and I can't stand this sound. John is the reason I started playing bass over 35 years ago.

  • his bass sounds like a guitar

  • Best rock bass player who ever lived!!!

  • @animefan1128 best bass player who ever lived not only rock :)

  • @yhtomitalmighty well said! =D

  • @yhtomitalmighty

there are far better musicians in other styles. marcus miller, john pattitucci, dominique depiazza, stanley clarke, and the list goes on and on... those guys are better. i like john's style, too, but he is definetly not the besst bassist or musician.

  • @CptChaos88 i know all the guys you mentioned, I listen and play jazz also, look at my favorites. well to each his own but IMO without a doubt in my mind, JE is the best. my favorite and biggest influence on bass though is marcus miller.

  • @yhtomitalmighty

interesting. can you explain to me what exactly makes him the best? and I'm talking about musicianship. for me there is taste, feel, technique as far as it goes for a bassist, and for a musician again taste, feel, creativity, musical knowledge,..., what matters. is JE really "better" in these terms than the guys I mentioned?

  • @CptChaos88 agree with you

  • man, that shit is so thunderous

  • Best bass player ever why don't people take notes?

  • @nitropowrd are the things hes playing here from songs (Who songs, or otherwise), or are they mostly just freestyles?

  • @jonoisgood I don't hear any recognizable licks from songs but I am just a fan, I don't play, so maybe a trained ear could find something identifiable. Makes me want to learn though

  • It's back!!! Yes! Thanks for posting this!!
