OK John. I'll just enjoy your playing. Having John Entwistle teach you how to play like he does is kind of like having Tiger Woods explain how to hit a drive 350 yards. Sounds great in theory. These guys have spent their entire lives practicing and perfecting their technique. 30 years from now I'll probably have this down :)
Lol, I love how he just starts playin some random shit, and this really shoddy lookin sheet music pops up for like a second then just disappears.... I'm imagining some poor bastard who had to transcribe it, and just picked random licks to transcribe.
@SmokeBojangles yea u douche, i hello I am SmokeBojangles. Here is a hatefull comment and bunch of jelousy........ Geratset internet troll EVER! bar none.
@burito95 How is calling the greatest bass player in the world the greatest bass player in the world Being a Douche? You must have a thing For Feminine Hygiene products.
Bit of a 'Magic Bus' jam going on (starting at 13:15.) On the 1994 video '30 Years Of Maximum R&B', John said that it was the Who song that he most hated playing over everything else!!
he isn't really "playing" any music. how does any of this apply to a song? he's dinkin' around on the thing like it's a toy. not such a great tone, either. I too like treble, but this is off the hook.
@MrHellothisisme Agreed..he was always more of a lead guitarist in style and execution than the traditional bassist...and he made no bones about it...his independence of right hand fingering came from his experience playing an orchestral brass instrument..I believe English or French horn...
@fretsbru It was the French horn. When he started his musical training as a kid, he wanted to play the trumpet, and there weren't any left, so he took a French Horn. Most of the horn sections on Who-songs (Overture, Whiskey Man, 5:15) are played by John... Yes, I've seen the documentaries ;)
@TerraceYouth Pete said that although his hearing loss was bad, John was so deaf he needed a hearing aid to "just order a tuna sandwich. " Wonder if the distorto trebly tone of the last few years was a result of his deafness? Maybe couldn't hear the low frequencies in a loud band mix?????
I bought this video and wore it out to see his licks. It was simple as could be musically but holy shit it rocked and I learned more about my instrument than years of lessons. Love Thunder Fingers! The Ox is alive!
@marazm1 I totally agree with you. He went with this sound for the last 10-15 years of his life. I play bass and I can't stand this sound. John is the reason I started playing bass over 35 years ago.
there are far better musicians in other styles. marcus miller, john pattitucci, dominique depiazza, stanley clarke, and the list goes on and on... those guys are better. i like john's style, too, but he is definetly not the besst bassist or musician.
@CptChaos88 i know all the guys you mentioned, I listen and play jazz also, look at my favorites. well to each his own but IMO without a doubt in my mind, JE is the best. my favorite and biggest influence on bass though is marcus miller.
interesting. can you explain to me what exactly makes him the best? and I'm talking about musicianship. for me there is taste, feel, technique as far as it goes for a bassist, and for a musician again taste, feel, creativity, musical knowledge,..., what matters. is JE really "better" in these terms than the guys I mentioned?
@jonoisgood I don't hear any recognizable licks from songs but I am just a fan, I don't play, so maybe a trained ear could find something identifiable. Makes me want to learn though

I've heard that he was almost totally deaf. Just as deaf as Pete but different `cause of the bass frequencies. No ringing in the ears. Just deafness.
