  • It is very sad that it was his last birthday in his life.

  • Sir Arthur is not dead. I believe that he found his own monolith and got swept through the ethereal dome of the universe. He will be reborn... As a Star-Child.

  • You are an inspiration, Clarke, the world had lost a great treasure in science fiction and pure science in your passing. You would be missed

  • Thank you for giving me the pleasure and desire to read books.

  • Whoa, he even predicted his own death...

  • Dear Mr Clark, I just want to let you know, Your work gave me a fantastic inspiration in what I do in life. Your legacy continues. If it was me, I'd build you a monolith monument on the Moon. You have inspired us all.

  • With Your creative thoughts, I wish You eternal peace. Godspeed Sir Arthur Clarke and goodbye :)

  • That monolith idea is genius.

  • I was with him until he said climate change.

  • I still find this hard to watch :(

  • Universal concepts, a universal man;

I'm glad we can access resources like this. Our greatest ancestors can speak to us directly.

  • there are too few men like this in the world

  • Some reason that he want to live in srilanka because there is not mainland block the sea to the south pole

  • such a great personality.....

  • Wow, I guess he meant that goodbye literally.

  • Your life is an odissey!

  • wow.

  • You were my inspiration when I was a teenager. Thanks for all your books and I wish from my hart that your three wishes will become reality.

  • Thank you Arthur.

  • peace can just be wished

  • Miss you.

  • RIP....

  • We are all truly blessed to lived in the age of Clarke and Asimov.

They said it, now we should go out and do it.

    Rest in peace Sir Clarke

  • A great man. Truly great. Indeed, it`s quite difficult to imagine him `resting in peace` (forever), don`t you think? Perhaps he just started his `space-odyssey` from here-on. Besides intelligent, he seemed to be wise as well and also a humanist. God bless his soul on Space-Odyssey - IF YOU DON`T MIND ME SAYING SO.

  • Sir Clarke isn't just an author. He is one of the most prophetic theorists of our time. His incredible ability to predict the rise of the space age twenty years before hand, and his influence on most modern technology today proves he really deserves the title of Sir Arthur C. Clarke. May he Rest in Peace.

  • In 1979 on itv wednesday evenings i would sit in amazement and watch arthur c clarkes tv programme really quietly and loved everyone of them, i always liked him as him seemed genuine and knowledgeable about his subjects !! im glad he lived a long time to

    seee a lot more !!

  • Today I have listened to the words of two wise and visionary men. It's Arthur Clarke and Barack Obama speeking in Berlin.

  • You only mentioned one wise and visionary man - Arthur C. Clarke. Who is the other?

  • Sir Arthur C. Clarke:Wise words-lesson for all the living. Wisdom overshadows Tyranny among mankind's Barbaric 20th Century-striving forth, what is vain in gods eyes will never come true in our own likeness of excistense; "unless" world leaders overcome trival divisions through the world of the heart which will answer your three wishes real globalization.

    Goodheart has spoken.

  • Sir Arthur is great in his intellect and insight into the future and the human nature! He has also been a great humanist and a rationalist. Rest in peace in this wonderful universe.

  • Rest in peace, sweet prince. :[

  • You were a great man and human being. Rest in peace great champion of the future

  • There has to be a special place in the beyond for people like you! Thanks for all you books!

  • I would have loved to meet him. He seemed so intelligent. I'm sorry you had go to, Mr. Clarke, and you will be missed.

  • I would have loved to meet him. He seemed so intelligent. I'm sorry you had go to, Mr. Clarke, and you will be missed.

  • A person that inspired, through his writings, a Tim Berners-Lee to invent the World Wide Web in 1989. Who in 1945, proposed the idea of communications satellites that could be based in geostationary orbits around our planet, an idea laughed about by the official science of the time. After all he was only a writer.

  • Tim Berners-Lee didn't invent the Internet. He invented HTML what has made the Internet significantly more usable. The Internet has its roots in the original US ARPA net.

  • Nobody said T.B. Lee invented the Internet, but he did invent the World Wide Web, as stated above.

R.I.P. Sir Clarke, you will be greatly missed.

  • Nah, that was Al Gore.

    RIP Sir Clarke.

  • A writer for whom spacecraft, asteroids and even a dinosaur has been named. A writer whose ideas, that is, the ones that have not been realized yet, are still considered far fetched even today, the stuff of dreams or sci-fi.

  • His hundreds of books and thousands of short stories constitute a cloud, a cluster or galaxy of links, of neuronal connections, of firing synapses that influence the world and will continue to do so for perhaps millenia, since his ideas travel as we blog, beyond our solar system into the universe he so lucidly dreamed about.

  • Who is this great human, whose passing through has barely been noticed in obscure obituaries as if we had nothing lost ?

Perhaps we have not, since he gave us more than we can take in generations to come. Besides, as he himself, quoting Rudyard Kipling said:

  • If I have given you delight

By aught that I have done,

Let me lie quiet in that night

    Which shall be yours anon:

And for that little, little span

The dead are borne in mind

Seek not to question other than

    The books I leave behind.

Thank you Sir Arthur, the world can or could be a better place because of you.

  • Linkage represents power, status, success of one sort or another. Of course this has always been the case, particularly in the animal world, but I suspect in the uni-verse at large as well.

That is how our brain becomes conscious, how memories evolve and how life flows in the eternal dance of chaos and order, the breathing that holds the secret of our own existence.

  • Da bambino ho visto al cinema 2001... ed ho cominciato a sognare. Grazie Arthur, bambino delle stelle. R.I.P.

  • Very fortunate that he was able to record a final message just a few months before his death, and a fitting end to the last of the "Big Three" of science fiction. He certainly outlived his contemporaries, and his vast exapnse of work will continue to be enjoyed by me and others.

  • :-(( RIP.

There is no one who can replace you, EVER. Johnboy, Rochester,ny

  • Let us take him as an example of the best of humanity, and be inspired to be better human beings.

To the man, Arthur Clarke, who took the time to personally reply to my letter many years ago, though he knew me not from Adam: thank you!

We will miss you, but we will not forget you.

  • May your spirit wander the Cosmos.

Thank you for all those inspirational words.

  • When we turn to the blind we're mistaken,

When we turn to the dreamers we can never feel the ground beneath our feet. This is a gift he gave so many, and one I know I'll explore within my own lifetime.

  • Rest In Peace, you human being.

  • RIP

  • Sail thou with the imperishable stars!

  • 90 years old, but still a great loss. TY Arthur!

  • Godspeed

  • The man had the most optimism among the whole human race than probably anybody on the planet. He accomplished more than most will ever even dream of. RIP

  • And yet in the end he regards himself as nothing more than an observer eager to see as much as possible of our evolution as a species. What a great man, I shed a tear during the Rudyard Kipling quote.

  • And so the starchild takes his final journey. RIP Arthur.
