  • The banks should have never been allowed to be "bailed out". Not in a free market society. They should have been allowed to fail. Simply blatant corruption between politics and banking. Give me a gun and I can rob a bank. Give me a bank and I can rob the world.

  • @sgmpmr Barclays wasn't "bailed out"...

  • Diamond is a normal Barclays banker and treats all his customers with contempt. His company has cheated me out of approx £240k by misselling a pension. It has also taken them over 11 months to answer my complaint. So much for his well earned bonuses????

  • Your a greedy cunt diamond

  • If a company can afford to pay a CEO 20 million for a salary, they should consider raising employee wages. Also, I think a employee or CEO is only worth what they put in. For example, if someone works their butt off, then they should get paid accordingly regardless of their job being entry level or not. If someone just sits on their ass and does hardly any work, then they should receive a low pay.

  • All the banks were riding chicken during the crisis. The first financial institution who gave up and reduced bonuses would instantly lose its stars, who will all be snapped up by competitors who continued to keep their bonus payments high.

  • It's actually more than 1000x what the average teller gets paid. Average salary for a barclays teller is more like 13k. Pay them more they are the frontline.

  • Sorry, but I still think 20m is very excessive for any one individual.

  • These people invest money in all sorts of horrible shite around the world. They are only of any use to the those with millions. They love to trap people into debt and in my eyes are bloodsuckers of the poor. This twat also has bugger all charisma

  • and of course there are the others

  • barclays share price to rise very sharply... wow - should I buy now ???

  • @nasum69 Yes, I couldn't agree more. The man should be mercifully drowned in a sack, along with Stephen Hester (RBS) and "Sir" Fred Goodwin. They effectively worship Satan, in essence and intention.

These people are an anachronistic obscenity in the Britain of 2011.

These people have been pissing on us and telling us it's raining for long enough.

They have no Honour, no dignity, no decency, no morality and no standards beyond their own interests.

  • Rapacious, greedy, self-serving, self-justifying, usurious, dissembling, tax-evading, antisocial, mendacious, obnoxious, ungrateful, insensitive little man.

I'm with David Icke on this one. He is a f*****g Lizard. (Barely disguised)

  • I'm more interested in how the likes of barclays actually make all that cash. Can an investment banker please explain how, with the western world in a financial hole, it seems so easy to make such massive profits on so little capital?

  • @nowthatsinteresting1 They make it in the futures markets, hedge funds, before the crash they were buying up toxic debt, re-packaging it into attractive investment portfolios & selling it on, a bit like a used car salesman. The UK tax take from the financial sector was £53.4 billion in 2009/10 which equates to 11% of our tax revenue & more than 50% of our NHS budget...............but the Unions & politicians fail to tell you this.

  • @markyboy1704 Well thanks for pointing that out! I wonder how sustainable the whole sector is - not very, given what you've said... Shame our wise leaders didn't reinvest all that cash into a 'real' industry, one with a future. I'm also guessing that the total cost of the bailout more than wipes out the extra income from the sector - can you shed any light on this? The size of the bailout seems to very variable, between 65 billion up to 800 billion, depending on who's saying it...?

  • @nowthatsinteresting1 The cost of the bailout can & should be irrelevant if the government whoever that is at the time, sell the banks wisely. Gordon Brown was disasterous when he sold the gold.

In my opinion It would be wise for the government to keep a stake in the banks to profit from the bank profits

The national debt pre bank bailout stood at approx £68 billion it then shot up to approx £152 billion.

We cannot tax the banks to the hilt because if we lose the banks we lose massive revenue

  • He says his bonus is appropiate payed for by the tax payer. You know what string this arrogant twat up on a high post that is what he deserves.

  • Bob Diamond, I am a pacifist by heart, but I would gladly give yourself or anyone getting a six-figure bonus a slap. It is a slap in the face of any decent hardworking person, it is vulgar.

  • Barclays paid the equivalent in Corporation tax of 1% on their profits last year. They even included the tax paid via PAYE on behalf of their vast employee network in order to confuse and "bury" this disclosure.

Bob Diamond is a monumentally vile human being. Where next Bob? Bank of America perchance?

  • We need a people's bank, lets see how the bankers do without public money ?

  • I suppose the whole thing is, if I were head of a public company and made said company six billion pounds of profit in a single year, I'd expect a pretty big bonus on the back of that performance. The problem with banks is that people forget that they are PLCs just like thousands of other businesses in the country. They have directors and shareholders and its earnings are apportioned out as per its profit and the performance of individuals.

  • @supbilly07 Yeeeeesssssss.....But:

PLC's are not usually bailed-out by the taxpayer if they make monumental errors of judgement due to unbridled greed and avarice....they generally pay for their own mistakes, or go under. The comparison, therefore, is only semi-valid. Barclays may not have been directly bailed out, but nontheless made millions via the governments intervention and fiscal support of the teetering banking infrastructure. Is this Slimy Bastard grateful?... Take a guess!

  • twat

  • WHAT A FUCKING PARASITE OF A MAN...A SCUMBAG..NO RESPECT.

  • Last year my wife left me for some asshole guy. It makes no sense at all- I’m a CEO and he’s an office admin douchebag content to earn $60k a year!

At the end of the day if she wants to waste her time with filth, that’s up to her, but I don’t want him infecting my kids with his lazy-ass attitude to life. Already I can see them being less ambitious in school. It’s so unfair & I’m so cut up about it I’m now in counselling- I just don’t know what to do about the situation…

  • @SuperTruth77 Respectfully, what has this got to do with the topic of this posting.

    I'm confused...

  • @steveh777ify its about the bonus, they talk about the bonus he received

  • in order to liberate them from their savings to invest in totally "inappropriate" high risk investment funds.

Sadly, this FSA fine only represents 0.1% of Barclays profits.

These people really are a law unto themselves. Bob's rewards package is, therefore, entirely "appropriate" within a Banking Culture based on pure greed, unaccountability, social irresponsibility, immorality and profit-driven speculation where the penalties for failure are paid for by the general public.

  • I love that word "appropriate"

Further to my comments last week. Barclays have just been fined £7.7M following a massive mis-selling scandal where thousands of their customers collectively lost millions of pounds through the profit-driven greed, avarice and predatory tactics employed by their "salesmen". BobDiamond headed-up the Wealth Management Unit at the time. They "managed" to lose hundreds of thousands of pounds in some cases for individual customers. They visited clients in Care Homes..

  • On a related theme, check out "Bank of America + one song"

...Keep a bucket and some mouthwash handy.

    And Bring On the Revolution.

  • where wages/salary/renumeration are considered. These people are not particularly useful members of society. They are Parasites and Leeches. They are also closely implicated in the worst economic recession of this generation due to their greed-driven fiscal mismanagement and non-accountability. In short, they have ensured that they are never held responsible in any way that can impact on them materially. "Bob" is not a very nice man. Trust me on this.

  • You can tell this gentleman got of a different boat.

  • Just another greedy wanker banker !

  • this guy is a genius, he is the boss.

  • to the haters!

Remember this guy is the BOSS! what he says goes, He runs the Company! his company make billions, so yeh why should he not get a portion of the success. credit crisis smishes thats business. Barclays never got bailout.

If any one of us was in his position receiving 20 mill doubt we would complain! and you know it! you to would be fighting your corner just like bob.

Its the footballers that need to get investigated, 250K a week for what! come on thats wrong!

  • @f1tness Hi. Consider me a "Hater" by all means.

I agree about the Footballers, no question. However, I think you are wrong to categorise everyone as having the same outlook as "Bob" were we in the same position. This man represents a self-serving cabal of inhumanly greedy and rapacious Scum. He has put a lot of effort into lining his own pockets, and attempting to justify his obscene "rewards". There is not one single reason why Bankers should be outside of the usual societal restraints...

  • @f1tness

So, just because you are the boss, that is a good excuse for being so greedy? Hmmmm, I see. He is overpaid and so are footballers. This is one of the reasons why when you talk to teenagers today, most of them want to be footballers. Very unrealistic.

Actually, while money is necessary for everyday living, there comes a point where it just all boils down to plain old greed. Anyway, Bob Diamond is American, so can't say I'm shocked, since he hails from the land of greed and money.

  • This man should be in prison for fraud along with the other investment bankers. If it was any other profession he would be. I find it appalling that the banks are making huge profits in time of recession because again they are ripping off the public. Are they helping small businesses? Are they offering lower mortgage rates? Is there any evidence they are doing anything different to what they were doing before the crisis? The five major banks in the UK should pay back the toxic debt.

  • On a serious note, Bob Diamond and his greedy, rapacious ilk represent a glaring obscenity, and a travesty towards normal standards of decency. These people are not true businessmen. They have created nothing from their own efforts. They produce nothing of real value. They are effectively unaccountable for their failures. Their talent lies in their single-minded dedication to their own self-serving interests, and nothing more.

In my humble view, they should be collectively drowned in a sack.

  • @steveh777ify Perfectly articulated exactly what I think, I know f**k all regarding banking and the economy but for any human to award themselves such staggering sums of money sickens me on a gut level.

  • @Lensonable Thanks. I don't think we need to know much about banking. We just need to function as human beings with a sense of decency in order to condemn the likes of Diamond, Stephen Hester (RBS) Eric Daniels (Lloyds) and co.

We really are a bunch of Wimps, that in this Great Nation we can tolerate these worthless people pissing all over us and telling us that it's raining...

  • Personally, I think he's grossly underpaid.

I would happily allow Barclays to sequester half of my income in order to pay him even more.

Where would we be without this magnificent example of humanity?

I think he should also recieve a Knighthood and a Nobel Prize.

....Gotta Go. Time for my medication.

  • If he is so good why is the stock price languishing at one third its 2007 price and my dividend is only one percent ?

These bankers are entirely self serving sociopaths that live on other peoples sweat.

  • That question of "are you 1000x better than a teller?" is absolutely ridiculous.

  • My card just got blocked due to me getting a Lovefilm account. £8 a month. Then when I phoned to verify it was me, they tried selling me a loan. I spoke to 2 people, one in an Indian call centre, and one in UK. The Indian guy had a clearer speaking voice, and a better phone reception. Wonder if that sort of shit happens to this fucking joker?!?

  • This Bank rips people off. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. They charge over draft fee's when people don't overdraft. They change the APR all the time. WORSE BANK OF ALL TIME

  • just kill all bankers, the world will be better off

  • @roger767

good luck with your mortgage, credit cards, loans, overdrafts and your bank account then. Nice to see someone who knows what they are talking about.

  • @wengerswissmilitary Ever heard of a credit union?

  • is he worth it?, most definately

  • The destroyer of worlds.

  • This man is a high-performing genius. I strongly believe that his next bonus should include the right to rape any member of your family he feels is 'appropriate'.

  • he may have 20mill but he still looks like superman after he fell of his horse

  • ITT people who have no idea what they are talking about

  • hey all.... barclays is a big big bank that has played its its part in the financial crisis, the global arms trade and a variety of environmentally unsustainable projects.... search the below for an effective, peaceful way to change the way they operate.

search facebook for "banking on change"

  • fuck u barclays ur chip and pin fuck sucks dick u dumb mother fucking cunts sort it out

  • Is the man wearing glasses or goggles? Funny-looking eyes.

  • this man is a hero to his shareholders as i am one them. just ingenius. keep up with the profits!!!

  • he's the head of Barclays Capital, i doubt he cares too much about the retail banking arm that you guys are complaining about!

  • If a director runs a company that provides an excellent service to it's customers and keeps the shareholders happy then they deserve the £20M. However, Barclays Firstplus has screwed it's customers and they continue to deny any wrongdoing. This man is making millions from the misery of others. Houses repossessed, marriages ruined, but at least his decisions mean he can live the high life.

We have bombarded the regulators with complaints but they do nothing. why do the government ignore us?

  • His attitude is everything that's wrong with the world. It's not like he's a football player where you can quantify his presence in added revenue. For £20mill all we get is a shit service and more charges, wow well worth it. It would be a terrible shame if the supertax on bonuses scared off all the robbing fat cats. I for one would mourn their loss terribly . . .

  • What a piece of shit.

He's getting a £20million bonus in the middle of a fucking recession when his customers homes are getting reposessed.

I wouldn't mind if his business could function properly. The amount of trouble i've had over the past 3 months just from simply requesting a list of bank charges is unbelivable.

  • well, barclays has made huge profit in a recession. to barclays he's probably worth it.

we've been screwed over as a result of the banking crisis, but objectively speaking, barclays never needed to be bailed out, and are still making huge profits.

you have to say he's worth every penny in that respect. it's not about us.

  • @leadbelly123 Lots of uninformed people on here who can't wait to get on their knees and toss Bobs salad. Barclays took 8.5 Billion dollars from the US taxpayer to cover the bad gambling debts they had placed with AIG. Bets which are now not worth a fuck. The idea that they "never needed to be bailed out" is an out and out fucking lie. I told you the game was rigged. They keep the profits. YOU pay the losses. So in a way your right - it's NOT about us!

  • @cretter

way to take my post right out of context. they were never directly given any money by the government. guess what though? it's totally irrelevant to the point i was making. he has made barclays money. to barclays he's worth the money. THAT is the point i was making. why is it so hard to understand?

  • @leadbelly123 Finally! Someone who doesn't associate a mutli-million dollar earner as a crook or thief or scum. I swear everyone on Youtube associates all rich individuals are undeserving assholes who never deserve their money

  • @leadbelly123 i agree, why do MP crack down on bankers, what about Footballers weekly wage!!!! thats what i cantundestand, why do they not clamp down on them!

  • @leadbelly123

I'm no banker basher but that isn't strictly true. Barclays received billions from the US taxpayer via TARP and it also had to borrow billions on two occasions (over a fortnight) from the Bank of England emergency fund. Allegedly the reason for this was 'computer glitches' and not liquidity problems. Bob's a free market cowboy, but the irony is, that without public money Barclays could well have gone under on more than one occasion.

  • As a former Barclays employee all I can say is this. Barclays is a disgraceful company. I have seen customers lied to, ripped off, mis sold and treated appallingly badly. Also here's a question. Can a company who offers Robert Mugabe's Regime and who has had links with aparthide really be a "good" company. As I said. A disgraceful organisation.

  • @chrismarkbicknell

Wow, did Barclay actually help Mugabe's regime. That is a crime against humanity and Barclays has to be prosecuted by the European Court!

  • Bob Diamond does an amazing job...

    Shame he's a robbing cunt

  • I'm a Barclays cashier (teller) I can tell u its even more than a thousand times.

  • Hi Chappelle87 - You'll noticed he he questioned the accuracy of that ratio. Now, either he agrees with you that it is more than 1000:1 ratio or he can't count, which isn't really a good advert for someone in control of lots of dosh.

    Ciao

  • Barclays raised my rate to 30.24%

  • Fucking piece of SHIT. I'd love to hurt him- no fucken mercy.... I'd beat his ass with 10K bundle until he bled, but the fucker would enjoy it.

  • Bob Diamond is an awesome man.

He gave me chocolate biscotti and candy corn this morning.

  • Fucking Parasite.

  • @cretter

make one logical arguement how he is a parasite

  • @bearstearn3 He's a parasite because he stuffed taxpayers money into his banks coffers so that they could carry on gambling in the rigged market, that his tax evading, socially useless bank relies upon to make it's obcene profits. He creates nothing, he manufactures nothing, he invents nothing and he gives back little. All he does is oversee the placing of huge bets with other peoples money within a manipulated and rigged market with no fear of losing because the taxpayer will cover the losses.

  • @cretter

Do you actually even know what an investment banker does?

  • The point is not what he does. Anyone can find an answer to your retorical question wih a quick google. The point is why is he being allowed to carry on doing what he does with 8.5 Billion of US Taxpayers money???????? And spare me the "too big to fail" horse shit.

  • if ceo's would be more like him, UK would be one of the leading countries in finance industry

  • It is the leading country in the finance industry. London has taken over New York as the epicentre of the finance world.

  • Barclays are an extremely important company, they have irrefutably proved the existense of god!

If you go to a branch and stand there for a minute or two you will feel the cold, empty blue walls closing in on you as plastic people with there souls being sucked out attempt to serve you (take your money) and you will realise that this is hell, therefore, god must exist!

  • @1bulletleft

I read that and giggled. while I was giggling, I quickly looked up how much their cashiers, you know, those plastic people that you speak of, get paid. Some of them get £12495 per annum. I wonder how Bob Diamond can be happy with his £20 million bonus when his staff are so underpaid. How are they expected to live on such a pittance, I wonder.

  • Bob Diamond = legend

  • I got a letter this very morn from Barclays,

wishing me well and hoping my health is good.

Tis a wonderful company. I advise everyone to open an account with Barclays. Mention my name.

  • Look at his black dead soulless eyes.

  • look at his glasses....HIS GLASSES

  • Cheesey smile...........justifies the absurdity and seriously tries to be earnest!! What a joke some of us have to live on poverty wages and raise our children!! DIRTY ROTTEN MONEYMAKERS,MONEY IS THEIR GOD.

  • round these wankers...sorry bankers up and shoot the lot of them.

  • Mate you have just joined the list of fair game. You can run but you can't hide

  • he knows he is not worth that you can not lie to yourself hence the smiles

  • this man is so successful because he has a 10inch penis. how do i know? easy.. just look at his thumbs.

  • mebbe he can put the money in those bags under his eyes
