*Note* The extruded aluminum framing they reference in the film is not in fact used for warehouse shelving. Warehouse shelving has no need for the modular design of extruded aluminum profiles and aluminum simply cannot offer the required strength that steel can. The aluminum profiles are more commonly found in industrial machine framing and safety fencing, though its uses are certainly limitless.
In an urban setting privacy and security would be concerns. The floor layout and placement of functional spaces was well thought out. Taking the concept in another direction such as for temp housing for hurricane/earhquake relief. The modular design seems like a good fit for those uses.
Hmm smellophane. Not my choice exactly. There are some nice solar glasses available from people like Schott. Allowing differing degrees of light through. Check out ASi glass or similar.
hmm my post didnt work. I think this is cool, it is a start in the right direction. i cant wait till one day they find a more durable material to make houses out of. but yeah i doubt ti'll be cellophane, still it could lead to something better and containing solar power!
well i dunno if cellophane is the right material, BUT at least theyre looking at new materials to use, coz would and stone just dont really cut it, i'm sure some futuristic material would be better :)
Could a shelter made of cellophane really protect one from the elements? What would happen in one good wind storm? Why not use pads of layered kevlar between the structural members, then one wouldn't be vulnerable to a stray bullet in the neighborhood.
Just more bs construction that about 5 people in the united states wants. The cost or this structure = About 2 streets of foreclosed homes.I want to see home designs that some one really has to make a living at designing and not some grant or publicity grab.
The only thing I do not like about this living area, is that it doesn't have any curtains... Like I wouldn't want to live in a busy city street with people staring through my walls while I eat my lunch.
I can't access the journal website...why?

Let's say I am a millionaire and I want to buy your house.
You sell me at what price?
I imagine that prices have lowered since the financial crisis of 2008.
Thx.
