Great film! It is true that anyobody can be an addict, be it alcohol, pot, sex, gambling and the best way to fix it is through helping the non-violent addict and not throwing them in an already crowded prison system.

interesting that heroin was $5 for a pack back in the 70's and it's the same price now. Cocaine is less expensive now than in the 80's. Fight inflation with hard drugs!

I actually lived in South India (Hyderabad) for 4 years and was not able to find any opium ('afim' in Hindi/Urdu) and I asked around regularly. I've tried heroin once by snorting it and I am telling you don't do it, it sucks.

When I said that yopu had not lived I was refering to the narrow views that you express on these and other matters not just your lack of experience and further more if you wish to debate about addiction brain chemistry etc bring it on i have a degree in Psychology my freind and i would further point out that Booze is far more addictive and dangerous than heroin and that it also places a more heavy burden upon society and its infrastrure than any other class of drug...thats a FACT by the way.

Alcohol more addictive than Heroin? You must have gotten your degree in a Play school, if thats what you think. Why dont you drink 8 beers a day, and every second day Shoot some H. After 2 weeks lets see which you have a harder time giving up. Heroin is much more addictive than Alcohol, or any other class of Drug, though alcohol is a social burden, I'll agree with that. But do not attempt to link it to heroin in temrs of addiction, their is just no Comparison in addictiveness.

darrin42@ Great Comment! Unless you've been addicted to opiates you have NO idea how powerful the addiction is. I'm currently fighting an Oxycontin addiction and when Oxy is unavailable I MUST use whatever is comparable including Heroin, Morphine, Fentanyl, Methadone or "whatever". I'm 52 and have been an alcoholic since high school. I can quit drinking, without outside help for periods of weeks or months and have several times. With opiates simply "quitting" is not an option.

Further more I was only disappointed because you based your comments on learned propoganda and not on facts research or personal experience. The facts are that opium is a non flexible asset just in the same way as oil...if you control these markets then you control all the derivitive markets that follow. i.e plastics from oil toothbrushes from plastics etc the same with opium theres not many drugs out there bthat were not derived from opium. your headache tablets for example..please look deeper

I have a wealth of experience, friends, and family members all of whom were on/are on Heroin. I have seen the pain, and damage this Evil drug can do. Opium itself ,in pure form is useful for medications yes thats true, but thats how it should say. Not for recreational Use. I understand the uses for extraction of Morphine, Codeine, paracodeine ect in use with Pain killing medication. I dont dispute this.

drug use is a choice. we are not dumb creatures. we have a choice to use drugs or not - from a simple aspirin to pot or whatever. it is from that premise that folks should work on. drugs by themselves do not make our choices. i disagree with those that say so.
