Well one way to see if swinging the weight or not is more/less effective is try both ways and see which one gives you more size after. I'd take my bet with holding the movement and keeping your back steady. During bench press, I now keep the weight at my chest for 1 second before I put it back up. I do less weight but my chest is a lot bigger than ever before.
