They are sort of Local Olympics held every 4 years in the same years of the Olympic Winter Games. Other local Olympics are the Commonwealth Games, also held every four years the same years of the Winter Olympics and the Panamerican Games which are held every four years too, but just one year before the Summer Games.
I miss the games opening very much, I wonder if you have the whole recording. I can't find anywhere on the net for this opening...My tv did broadcast the edited version, where the broadcasters omit the half of the ceremony (after torch lighting)...I believe the other half is very spectacular.
Yes I have the whole show, both Opening and Closing but they are on VHS. I need to digitise them so that they can be put up on the Net. Just the matter of get myself together for it. Stay tuned.
@ocgamesfan That looks nice. BTW, there is a book on Olympic (and other) Ceremonies. It's called SECRETS OF THE OLYMPIC CEREMONIES. Google it. The 2012 edition will come out in February.
Thank you so much for posting this video ka ^^ I've been looking for the closing ceremony for ages! This is very impressive and meaningful for me as I was one of the performers. Do you have the full version of closing ceremony ka?
Pretty amazing, i watched the Opening, but never had the chance to watch the closing (that giant boat bring me memories of Barcelona 92), is true that the shows were based on the Ramayana legend?

Hi Ikarus,
There was a section in the opening ceremony that was based on Indian Mythology.
Gods and Demons together churn the Ocean of Milk to produce immortal potion. As the result, it also becomes the birth of the Sun and the Moon etc.
The ship scene was inspired on Thai King's book, Mahachanaka, based on one of Lord Buddha's past life.
