Can't believe Michael Chiklis (Mackey) hasn't had any decent roles in anything since the show ended. That no ordinary family was junk.... not Chiklis's fault, just crappy writing... hence it got cencelled after 1 season.
He needs to get back to some crime tv series of some sort, I miss Vic Mackey!!!
I really was trying to watch this show, but every time I watch, I can't go on for more than 3 minutes without feeling dizzy...I think it was the way the camera moves so fast, and perhas that what the director wanted, to create the moving fast pace, but for me, I can't keep watching, though I tried, for a few times, still couldn't get use to it...but, I really wanted to watch your show.
I was never interested in watching the show until I stumbled on a random episode. Watched that one episode and was hooked ! I ran out to the video store and rented all 7 seasons within three weeks - I watched the final episode 3 days ago and am still thinking about it....WOW.... emotionally challenging....Can't believe what happend to Ronnie (I'm starting to feel like one of those loosers who think tv is real lol....).
Shawn Ryan is a fucking genius, The Shield is the best TV Show ever, The Sopranos is right on the back, it only loses because the ending of Shield is honestly the best ending ever, in movies, series, or anything!
bought the first season boxset earlier this year, fell in love with it straight away and last night i saw the season 7 finale, im still feeling emotional about the ending its just such a brilliant series!
@EllSieMovies Truer words couldn't have been written. I wonder whatever DID happen to "Vic Mackey" after he walked out of the office in the last season finale!!
FX has a lot of great shows under their belt: The Shield, Rescue Me, Damages, Sons of Anarchy, Louie, and Nip/Tuck (Ball was dropped in the end though- Sux)
just finished watching the last season...fucking amazing show...I was that hooked I watched a few of the series in one day sometimes!! Can anyone recommend any other good american tv series ? I'm into sons of anarchy already, someone else recommended dexter
I can't wrap my brain around the fact that Vic Mackey is not the one being interviewed. I cannot envision Vic as fiction, that's how well Michael acted.
amazing show.watched the box set 3 times from season 1-7.it was very realistic and exciting.michael chikilis played vic mackey like such a genius.best cop show of all time.it had great characters and the ending was perfect.
you are right about those shows, they are smart and Justified is writting by Elmore Leonard who is great, but The Shield had just the right twist to make the show more fun. Except for Archer, those other shows you mentioned are also a bit to gritty while The Shield was more of an escape from reality.
The only truely smart show on TV at the moment is Glee and I have high hopes for David E. Kelleys Harry's Law that premiers tommorow night, otherwise The Shield and Boston Legal were the last great shows. It was the best cop show ever. One of the few TV series that makes the villain the protagonist. And Vic Mackey slips from evil to loveable sometimes several times in an episode. Two years of going without super good TV. Great show, stays with you. will never accept a piece of gum again.
@blabbermouth777 Meh, I'd say "Justified", which is on FX just like "The Shield" was, is an extremely great show as well (it's my current favorite TV show), and it stars Walton Goggins, Great dialogue, great acting, just a GREAT show. Also, you've got to give credit to shows like "Archer", "The Walking Dead", "Mad Men", and "Boardwalk Empire" as well.
Just finished the series today on Netflix. Spent the whole summer watching the show and all I have to say is wow. Truly one of the best shows ever made. So intense of full of greatness lol. I fell in love with the characters. I don't even know what else to say the this show left me speechless. Long live The Shield and The Strike Team!
@hbk2hhh Yeah great series one of the best I've seen lol. I loved season 5 also. The whole thing With Lem and Kavanaugh one of the most intense episodes ever.
Chiklis is such an awesome person. I ran into him at a Giants game (vs redsocks) when he was on his way to use the restroom. When I asked him if he would autograph my baseball he happily signed it for me. It was def a surreal moment when I addressed him and he turned around and was wearing the same shades that he wore in The Shield, it sorta scared the shit out of me for a second. But seriously real cool guy, he didn't seem all high and mighty like most hollywood people are, he was real chill.
@TheKnightRyder ... he sure does bro. it was proliffic the way Chiklis was hugging and stroking it whilst Shawn Ryan was talking in the early part of the interview, almost hypnotic! hahaha
I watched the first season week after week but then I stopped because I wanted to wait until the show was finished....years & years later I almost forgot about it but I started to watch it all from the 1st episode...now I'm almost done with season 4 and I love it...this is one of those rare TV series that develops as the characters grow & change...it takes it to another level. Personally I can't stand TV programs because I'm busy but this show for some reason caught my attention. I recommend it.
I finished watching it...I decided to do a Shield marathon last weekend & I blew through 3 seasons in 1 weekend...It was amazing. Great ending...it's exactly what you would expect to happen to a group of cops who did what they did. I strongly believe that the ending to any TV show or any film is one of the most important things because it can turn a bad show/movie into a good one and a good show/movie into a horrible one.
@andyrooney11 Yeah, of all the bigger, long running shows that have ended in the last few years (Galactica, The Wire, Lost, Sopranos, etc.) I found The Shield's ending to be by far the best, most satisfying, fit in with the rest of the story and the most plausible, not just the show runners messing with the audience.
The Shield is a show that sets its hooks underneath the viewers skin and pulls them from the hard hitting pilot episode all the way to one of the best season finales for show ever filmed. Best series ever created!
nrg1901: You're talking a load of cock mate, and my comparison isn't pointless. People have their say about the best police drama, but for me The Shield is far more superior than the very talky Wire (grant you it has mostly good acting; Stringer Bell's "American" accent is God awful!) The Shield was consistently great every season. Period.
The Shield is just so pure. A great nitty gritty cop show about your partners becoming family..and foe.
Greatness.
For me, I just can't wait until Michael Chiklis makes a cameo in Justified and Shane and him speak to each other. It will be great if they said something like a joke with a cold grin, that has to do with The Shield.
It's not being replayed at the moment, but all the seasons are on DVD. Walton Goggins(Shane) is starting in a new show on FX called Justified with Timothy Olyphant, and it looks realy good. Tues@10
that's one of the reasons I loved The Shield every single time it aired, there was never a bad episode. This kind of phenomenal acting and writing is rarely seen today amongst all the shit on the airwaves, The Shield was really just brilliant.
this show is cad ass...love it..probably my number one series..the only one that i took the the time to watch from beginning to end..sad episode, the last..
my friend let me borrow the shield on dvd.... needless to say it is the top 5 show I have ever seen.... I would love to see these guys reunite and do something special again cuz they really had something special with this group
Everyone goes on about The Wire this, The Wire that; but The Shield came before and remains a juggernaut in police drama. HBO is a great channel, but FX clips it by a few cm, with shows such as SoA, Sunny in Philadelphia, Rescue Me, Damages...
The entire comparison is pointless. Like it excludes the possibility of liking both series. Though both are police drama's, the differences are great. The only reasonable conclusion is that both The Shield and The Wire are absolutely tremendous series. Period.
The shield is really one of the best or maybe the best tv show ever. Its exciting from the first till the last episode. And especially the last one fascinating!
Actually I think at the end everybody gets what he deserves. Except Lem of course.
But in my opinion Ronnie is the most amazing character here, its a pity that we know nearly nothin about him.
Selling Ronnie was the biggest mistake Vic ever made.
Best show ever. Too bad it had to end. At least the end was 1 million times better than the end of the Sopranos. Vic was great. whole cast and crew were great together.
The shield is my favourite show and is much easier to get into but i have to concede that even tho it is not as enjoyable the wire is the best show ever as the deep dialogues and intricate plots are like reading Dostoevsky
he's working on producing a new FX series called "House of Cards" or something similar to that, he won't star in it just produce. The show is about people who are running a ponzi scheme.
I just finished watching the whole series again and something occurred to me. The 1st I watched the season final I felt Ronnie got screwed. After watching it all front to back I am no longer in that feeling. Ronnie had done some shady shit of the course of time they were all together. He had opportunities to get out, but choose to stay.
I won't say he got what he deserved but other than Lem, Ronnie was the one you felt should have gotten away.
Yeah and all through the series I was so pulling for Macky, that is until the last season....... Man, even before I knew Vic would turn on Ronnie and Ronnie said "I am gonna run... You should run too.". That is where I so hoped he'd run. When he said no.. I felt in my gut Vic would turn on Ronnie.
It hurt to see Ronnie go down like that. I mean he wasn't innocent but that was so cold.
people dont relise, with vic on the run ( i assumed thats where he was going at the very end when he grabs his heater), and shane dead, ronnie wont go to jail cause theres no one to testify against him. he'll lose his job, but no jail
just fiinished watching all shield episodes. it's pretty damn good, but not up there with the likes of the sopranos or the wire. imo. totally subjective though!
you dumb fuck. i'm white irish. so the 'the wire' features alot of black folk, so what! you imbeclie. it's written by white guys. not that it matters. you ignoramus chump.
indeed, I also finished minutes ago the complete series, and the last one was really something unbelievable, this series is drama perfection, I never seen something so intense over 7 seasons, I thank you Shawn and Michael for giving us this incredible delight, I just wish it would never end, and the series would come back, I am so addicted that even after it's finished I want more, but it was one of the best movie trips I ever been to, never seen Sopranos or Wire, but The Shield is untouchable
Many of us should agree that the most important thing in life is what is done with a badge and a gun, authority and firing power. You can make goodness or little less. Beware of falling in darkness to find clues or earning money for your company...
RIP to all who were some Lem & Ronnie. Fuck all Claudettes of the world
BRAVO SHAWN RYAN!...BRAVO Michael Chiklis...bravo 2 each everyone involved...for giving me/us such overwhelming and enriching experience...an wholehearted Thank you
RESPECT,RESPECT,RESPECT AND MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE RESPECT!!!.......that's all i have for the show...my heart just broke and sank deep when it finally ended...i literally gave it a "standing ovation" alone on own in my living room...with "the boys" giving Lem the 21 gun salute in his cemetery and the line of the song saying "feel such a long time ago"..it was hard for me 2 not 2 feel certain moister around my eyes....
If the Shield was as commercialised and promoted as much as 'Lost' was, It would've been the greatest show in the history of hollywood. It developed a cult like following from those fortunate enough to be introduced to the show from the beginning. In fact, its even MORE popular now that its ended than when it was showing as its popularity is growing like wildfire.
Love this show. I just wish Mackey would whacked Shane. I hate Shane. He was cool the first two season. Season three is when he got annoying. Great show
The Shield and The Wire. I am a big fan of both TV Shows. Theyre both on my top ten. The Shield and The Wire are two different shows. The Shield was a Cops Show. The Wire was a Cops & Robbers, Drug Dealers and Corrupt Politicians Show.
I was wondering why the shield never got publicized the way it should have like the wire. man i loved this show and i am just now buying the seasons in order to watch them all. glued to the tv.
Hmmm, The Shield, or The Wire. Well, let's look at it for what it is, The Wire was on HBOand had a bigger budget , therefore, the writers could pretty much do anything they wanted at any time. The Shield was on basic cable, with a limited budget, and yet turned out 2 more seasons, better ratings and frankly far more memorable characters. I enjoy both shows, but simply put, The Shield, in the end, was simply better is almost everyway. Put The Wire and basic cable, and it would suck.
I felt like crying at the end.

But in my opinion Ronnie is the most amazing character here, its a pity that we know nearly nothin about him.
Selling Ronnie was the biggest mistake Vic ever made.
charlieharper92 2 years ago 2
At the end of the day I think Ronnie should have been the one to get away. Off on Vic's boat in Mexico with the money.
Just my thought.

They need to bring back the show for another season. Vic was the greatest cop role ever.

Anybody know if Michael is going to be in another show or movie?? I've been looking for him
jlc7300 2 years ago
he's working on producing a new FX series called "House of Cards" or something similar to that, he won't star in it just produce. The show is about people who are running a ponzi scheme.

There's a movie called Street Kings which is shot by the same production crew and has a similar look and feel to the show.

I hope they don't make a the 8th. season !
I got screwed buy the last season watching it !
It's just my veiw.........what a let down from a die hard follower !!!!!
mickned 2 years ago
I just finished watching the whole series again and something occurred to me. The 1st I watched the season final I felt Ronnie got screwed. After watching it all front to back I am no longer in that feeling. Ronnie had done some shady shit of the course of time they were all together. He had opportunities to get out, but choose to stay.
I won't say he got what he deserved but other than Lem, Ronnie was the one you felt should have gotten away.

I love the way the shield makes you like a anti hero like vic
turbomonkey138 2 years ago 5
Yeah and all through the series I was so pulling for Macky, that is until the last season....... Man, even before I knew Vic would turn on Ronnie and Ronnie said "I am gonna run... You should run too.". That is where I so hoped he'd run. When he said no.. I felt in my gut Vic would turn on Ronnie.
It hurt to see Ronnie go down like that. I mean he wasn't innocent but that was so cold.
caveman73 2 years ago
people dont relise, with vic on the run ( i assumed thats where he was going at the very end when he grabs his heater), and shane dead, ronnie wont go to jail cause theres no one to testify against him. he'll lose his job, but no jail
2241991BG 2 years ago
But isn't Vic's recorded confession all the evidence they need?
rhinehartd 2 years ago
don't need vic to testify against ronnie. there was a taped confession.

indeed, I also finished minutes ago the complete series, and the last one was really something unbelievable, this series is drama perfection, I never seen something so intense over 7 seasons, I thank you Shawn and Michael for giving us this incredible delight, I just wish it would never end, and the series would come back, I am so addicted that even after it's finished I want more, but it was one of the best movie trips I ever been to, never seen Sopranos or Wire, but The Shield is untouchable

Many of us should agree that the most important thing in life is what is done with a badge and a gun, authority and firing power. You can make goodness or little less. Beware of falling in darkness to find clues or earning money for your company...
RIP to all who were some Lem & Ronnie. Fuck all Claudettes of the world

The Shield and The Wire. I am a big fan of both TV Shows. Theyre both on my top ten. The Shield and The Wire are two different shows. The Shield was a Cops Show. The Wire was a Cops & Robbers, Drug Dealers and Corrupt Politicians Show.
LiveLoveAh 2 years ago
I was wondering why the shield never got publicized the way it should have like the wire. man i loved this show and i am just now buying the seasons in order to watch them all. glued to the tv.

I'm so glad that Michael mentioned CCH Pounder. She was phenomenal on The Shield. She really had me believing she was a detective. I just love her.
snicky58 2 years ago 4
Hmmm, The Shield, or The Wire. Well, let's look at it for what it is, The Wire was on HBOand had a bigger budget , therefore, the writers could pretty much do anything they wanted at any time. The Shield was on basic cable, with a limited budget, and yet turned out 2 more seasons, better ratings and frankly far more memorable characters. I enjoy both shows, but simply put, The Shield, in the end, was simply better is almost everyway. Put The Wire and basic cable, and it would suck.
