this is a fair argument, and i agree with you, but i think one of the main reasons there were so many people there just to bottle him was that the main stage on that day was being played predominantly by metal bands. a lot of people were probably there to see the next act

But in this case his talantless presence at a rock festival was offence enough for most, and 50 knew it, otherwise they wouldnt of come out armed with bottles to throw at the crowd, I personally went to go and see him get bottled but when they started throwing full bottles back, he's lucky we didnt break down the fucking barrier! I was there, jurrasic 5 played that year too if I remember rightly and recieved a very positive reception, it's not cause he's black or even the type of music he played. It's cause he's a mainstream arsehole with a bad attitude. The festival organisers knew this would happen too, it's happened with other pop acts like this. One of the other acts got bottled that year, they made a game of it, laughed it off and won the crowd over, 50 cent had a tantrum. he's a prat.

Shot himslef in the foot. Skinner even took a few a he had a band with him on stage, all instrumental, and even then he battled the bottles, he's British so 50 had no chance.
I was there for this. To be honest the crowd were giving a negative reaction about 15 minutes before he even stepped onto the stage. He didn't do himself ANY favours, he knew it was a rock festival and he knew his art form was material orientated. To be fair to 50 Cent he managed 20 minutes of this " rain ". The crowd never stopped for a moment. But I don't see Greenday insisting on performing at the Rap Olympics. So he took the risk.
I prolly would have bottled him, but only because I think his music's shit. I would have definitely been happy to watch Dizzee Rascal, though... funny, that.

@UdoShan I wouldnt expect a talanted artist to get bottled off at their own gig, unless they offended the audience. But in this case his talantless presence at a rock festival was offence enough for most, and 50 knew it, otherwise they wouldnt of come out armed with bottles to throw at the crowd, I personally went to go and see him get bottled but when they started throwing full bottles back, he's lucky we didnt break down the fucking barrier! Not a lot annoys me but this wanker deserved it.

Deserved it? The only offenses I see with 50 being onstage are 1) He's an asshole 2) He's a rapper at a ROCK festival, and 3) He's talentless. Look, I don't know a lot about the Reading Music festival ( a lot of us in the states know NOTHING about it), but nothing excuses assaulting another human being. It's displays like this that got bottles banned at Ozzfest.
BTW, if people threw bottles at him why WOULDN'T he throw them back? It's only fair.

@UdoShan As i said for most the reasons you highlight was enough to let him know his presence wasn't wanted by any means, (including bottling) and i dont blame them, i didnt pay £125 ($200) to go to a rock festival and see a talentless rapper, this wasnt a case of if people didnt want to listen they shouldnt have turned up simply the wrong act at the wrong gig, trust you see an innocent girl hit by a full bottle hurled by one of his thugs off a loaded table, you would think he deserved it!

@UdoShan I'm still annoyed that any act good or bad, would even contemplate throwing full bottles into a crowd containing innocent people and even the odd fan, but they did and they allways planned too by loading the tables up with full bottles, this guy deserved this and a lot worse.

I was there, jurrasic 5 played that year too if I remember rightly and recieved a very positive reception, it's not cause he's black or even the type of music he played. It's cause he's a mainstream arsehole with a bad attitude. The festival organisers knew this would happen too, it's happened with other pop acts like this. One of the other acts got bottled that year, they made a game of it, laughed it off and won the crowd over, 50 cent had a tantrum. he's a prat.

50 Cent just plain shouldn't have been there (and I'm speaking as somewhat of an older fan). A lot of people bitch and moan saying that festivals need diversity, but there's already a pretty potent source of diversity in festivals like Reading/Leeds and Rock am Ring seeing as how they cover all aspects of rock music from indie to hard rock/heavy metal, so booking artists and bands that clearly aren't rock or even remotely similar is just fucking redundant, no matter how popular they are.

This is horseshit... Anyone who condones this kind of behaviour - Namely, throwing glass bottles at a performer trying to entertain- Is full of crap. I hate his music and I don't particularly like him but thats no excuse for anyone to do such a thing, even if hes completely out of place there. Booing him is fine, but thats completely different.
Theres just one thing I have to ask- Did people already know he was going to play or not? Because if they did, they can really go and fuck themselves.

I was there for this. To be honest the crowd were giving a negative reaction about 15 minutes before he even stepped onto the stage. He didn't do himself ANY favours, he knew it was a rock festival and he knew his art form was material orientated. To be fair to 50 Cent he managed 20 minutes of this " rain ". The crowd never stopped for a moment. But I don't see Greenday insisting on performing at the Rap Olympics. So he took the risk.
