Some people like to play chess in their free time. Why is it when people play a video game in their free time, it's suddenly some psychological crisis. Yes it's ironic that musicians would play guitar hero in their free time, but that's about as far as the analyzing needs to go. What the fuck does she propose that they do? Snort cocaine in the bath room and fucking 3 different bitches every night? I like Amanda Palmer, but she is clearly trying over-intellectualizing this.

i used to get pissed when people said guitar hero sucked because its not anything like playing music. all i have to say is: grand theft auto is not anything like actually stealing a car and running people over. But what she says is absolutely true

I love the crap out of Amanda Palmer, but really, Guitar Hero isn't about escapism. It's just fun.

It has nothing to do with the "truth of music". That's like saying that DDR strays away from the truth of dance. It's just a fun rhythmic game with pleasing aesthetics.

For the record, I play a real guitar. I have three in fact.

I don't think that was what she said, though. She used the fact that actual young rock stars were leaving the stage every night to play a simulation of rock stardom as a jumping-off point to describe how people tend towards escapism and unreality.
