  • GO NOW YOU ARE FORGIVEN!

  • this fight is not worth fighting

  • dispatch...

  • 25:08:10 in übersee am chiemsee!!!!!

  • I miss dispatchhhhhh <3

  • why all the fighting over such a peaceful visionary like chad?

  • Hey, I was at this show! John Butler Trio sold it out and Chad was walking down Spadina and got me and a friend in!

  • "and I have discovered, that this fight is not worth fighting"

You guys are stupid. Chad Urmston wrote this song. who cares who he plays it with. Dispatch or SR.

  • Are some of you retarded? This is obviously State Radio. It's his song, he's not covering shit.

  • Seeing as a lot of Chad's songs are written about his experience working with people with disabilities, you probably shouldn't drop the "R" word. . . Just sayin.

  • This is State Radio! after dispatch stopped playing, Chad Urmston made State Radio, Pete Francis went solo, and Brad Corrigan made his band Braddigan (his nickname). State Radios just covering Dispatch because it's Chads song.

  • theyre pretty much both the same

  • Rebelution is better

  • it takes an amazing amount of control to perform with such integrity when three quarters of the audience is off radius a full seconds' time and more off key.

    Well done mate. Most impressive.

    Looking forward to November

    PhRrRrOoeESsT

  • I second that. Definitely well done and pumped for the Mod club show

  • wow that was a great job

  • This is Dispatch....

  • Yea but hopefully someone will see this under the new name and listen to their old stuff too. this band is very talented and deserves more attention

  • originally yes... this could be state radio , his new band, "covering" it....

    just sayin... it could be

  • wheres his hair?

  • I dont think it was as long in 2004

  • ehh this isnt by state radio. but the same singer. chad stokess. this bands dispatch though !

  • actually this is state radio. dispatch played in July of '04 and didn't play again until july of '07. This particular show was SR opening for JBT.

  • but the original band to play it is dispatch i think they were trying to get at... by = dispatch, performed by = state radio

  • its basically the same thing, because chetro was from dispatch, so it is his song

  • you just mentioned all 3 of my favorite bands...

  • I came

  • why is the audiance all talking? whats wrong with them?

  • yo this audience is a bunch of doucshers ... and yo sports040 did u go to the show at the tla when chucks family came out during diner song?

  • hey audience! give him the respect he deserves (Which is a lot)

  • he wrote this, i forgot

  • he doesn't play this with chuck and maddog cause it was a patch song, state radio is sick though i saw them twice in philly and in NYC, they rock out

  • seeing them at water street in rochester in february...this would complete my life

  • im going to see them in allentown the day before.

and my sister is going to see them in rochester too.

    cant wait.

  • where chuck and maddog on this?

  • I still can't quite believe he played this, haha.

  • The audience is just fucking talking while they're playing.

    What the fuck.

  • Its awesome, but too bad you can't hear them over the audience

  • i went to state radio 2 weeks ago and they played elias by dispatch..i wish hey hey or general..oh well now i love elias a ton...but besdies that does anyone know the tabs hes playing right now i can sort of pick it up but not really if you know it please send it to me

  • Heard Chad play "The General" last weekend, acoustic at Colby College, Maine. We were all in this lecture hall, just mesmerized.

Someone yelled out "General!" He smiled and was like ".......I can play The General" The place went totalllly nuts; 200 of us in this tiny room.

After the song he's like "wow, I guess uh... we should just go home huh? I don't think we can top that"

We had him call our friend who moved to Colorado, just to give him crap and tell him to move back. So easy going.

  • hahhahah thats so cool

  • thats awesome

  • i think i would die if i saw him play the general.

  • gilroy, i saw him play it at the orange peel opening for Annie defranco....... and i did die. but then he rocked the shit out of me till i came back to life.

  • Ani DiFranco, come on people learn to spell...

  • anyways, ani difranco was okay, but she lost her fire. i left soon after he finished

  • in case you didn't know, YOU AREN'T TAUGHT TO SPELL A NAME SMART ONE

  • you're still upset about this? dude, relax... but i do still think it's important to spell people's names correctly. have a nice life...

  • I hate it how the audience doesn't seem to be paying much attention. It's as if the song is just background music. That's just rude.

  • knowing dispatch, i doubt either of them would care either way. Braddigan and pete francis bands all play dispatch songs

  • I love this song and this band! Dispatch and State Radio are two of the best bands ever!

  • ok,

for those of you who don't know and argue about nothing, chad urmston left dispatch and made the band state radio, he wrote the general so he has permission to play it

  • Guy stop fughting about names! listen to the song, its what the vid is about!

  • but i wanna fught!

  • shut the hell up! it was a typo u ass.

  • shut up all of you. this is chad. it doesnt matter who he's with. he wrote it. he can sing it as he pleases

  • state radio hasnt played this song in a long time they are well established band with their own amazing songs

  • he wrote the song....he could sing it when he damn pleases

  • no matter what people say there will always be people covering this song it's just too good.. having said that who better cover it than the originator? so for the people who say it's a dispatch song and should stay a dispatch song then just go check out all the other covers and tell those people

  • r u retarded?

  • I have mixed feelings about this one.

On one hand, Dispatch's acoustic version is my all time favorite song, has been for years.

But it's a Dispatch song, not a State Radio song....And it should stay a Dispatch song.

  • i totally agree. dispatch is dispatch.

  • It's not Dispatch's song, it's Chetro's. He's the artist, not Dispatch, even if the song was written with them and performed alongside them...

I guess that's just the detatched, isolated, and non-team-player perspective, though.

  • pete plays two coins at his shows why cant chad play his

  • correct. its chads song.

i guess people should yell at pete for recording burning the river, for thats a dispatch song. and brad better not play whirlwind or walk with you ever again. ever.

and revolutionaries and time served are out the window for state radio, because they were written with dispatch. people are dumb sometimes.

  • Thank you for that.

And now, we enjoy the song.

    ... Ahhhhhhhhh.

  • your an idiot, chad urmston wrote the song, and he can play it whereever he damn pleases... that's like saying axl rose shouldn't play sweet child of mine because it's not with Slash and Izzy... thats just stupid..

  • well thats not a fair example because axel rose shouldn't play anything at all anyway

  • WORD

  • Such an amazing song.

  • i love chad urmston.

  • Chad Strokes

  • chad stokes

    stokes is his middle name

    urmston is his last

with dispatch he went with stokes (nickname

  • everyone shut the fuck up and listen 2 the song

  • jeez charlie. causing drama. why must you play such amazing music.

  • this is State radio. you are retarded

  • Ok first of all... you can tell that its not possibly State Radio because Chad's hair is still short here... and State Radio was formed while Dispatch still existed... Third of all Dispatch being the people that they are would not mind if one of the others preformed a song by themselves...

  • do yo feel better now

  • This was filmed at a State Radio show in Toronto approximently 3-4 months after the Last Dispatch show in Boston (Can't remember the exact date 4 years later). Although the song was first performed by Dispatch (Obviously), this was a State Radio billing and performance.

  • @urrrr939

Chad wrote the song with Dispatch, so he can perform it at his discretion. SR still play the song from time to time as a full band. This was a State Radio show.

  • actually the song was written entirely by Chad Stokes (the one singing in this video).. It was originally performed while he was in dispatch with Pete and Braddigan.. but because he was the one who wrote the song, he has full rights to it. state radio still plays this song as some shows/acoustic sets

  • erm the song General isnt made by state radio it was by Dispatch Dispatch broke up in late 2005 and the state radio was made in 2006 with the same guitarist as Dispatch so this is made by Dispatch and Preformed by Dispatch

  • yeah but they did have a riunion in 2006 in msg it was sick

  • 2007, but yes it was.

  • State Radio active in 2002 go look it up.... Dont bring in your false facts

  • if hes our generation's lennon

then connor oberst is no doubt our gen's dylan

  • Listen here, is State Radio is proforming a Dispatch song, then there is no rivalry or cometition. they bowth kick(kicked)ass and there bowth the best

  • People, all this Dispatch vs State Radio stuff is silly. As a life long Beatle fan in his late 40's, I can only say one thing: Chetro is the John Lennon of your generation. Cherish him.

  • I said the same thing a couple days ago on State Radio's myspace page right before they played Chicago. This guy's my idol...

  • Yeah, I saw your post on myspace and it made me think about the comparisons: edgy vocals, incredible songwriting, a popular former band, and most importantly positive lyrics with a strong, worthy purpose. The fact that he's doing it without all the commercial hype Lennon faced (primarily by choice) is even more impressive - and Lennon-esque. John would have been a fan.

  • Hey me & my buddy do Dispatch's Open Up cover I try my hardest to sing like Chetro. Check it out and let me know. There is no harmonizing it's just me. hypapavs

  • i couldnt agree more.

people should truly listen to what Chad says not only in his songs, but when he speaks. Dispatch is amazing as a unit, but chad has a gift. i had the chance to meet and speak with him in NYC back in November. he truly is an insperational man. open up your minds and listen.

    peace.

    ps.

thank you jamkat he is the lennon of our generation.

  • chad actually doesnt look half bad with all of his hair chopped off... although i do like his hobo beard and almost-dreads :]

  • of course dispatch was more harmonized with this song. there were 3 of them... and even though this was a dispatch song first, chad was the one who wrote it so its right for him to play it today. same with braddigan playing songs like prince of spades and pete francis playing two coins.

  • If I am not mistaken, Chetro totally played this song to get people to vote. That was his only reason for playing this song.

  • and why did you say this is state radio playing it its just straight up CHETRO

  • I said SR because this was a SR show. Although the general was played just with Chad, the rest of the band (at the time) was there as well....

  • all 3 of them are freakin awesome. there.

  • agreed great song but i miss dispatch...

  • still an amazing song

  • the general is by dispatch not by state radio... chad urmston is in both

  • chads really good but not like pete and brad

  • chad is the best songwriter but no where near the best singer

  • Well I think that it doesnt matter which Band, the main character always has been Chad, because he is a genious in songwriting!

  • i think dispatch was way better with this song, they just seemed so much more harmonized and stuff.

  • Well Braddigan was amazing with harmonies...

But for those of you debating whether you like Dispatch or State Radio better...just think...without Dispatch, there probably wouldn't be a State Radio.

  • it's incredible, just look at the way he plays this song; the feeling he puts into it. you know how much a song means to someone if they're able to play it like that even while in a different band. so powerful.

  • i agree that dispatch is better but state radio has some good songs

  • i totally agree with funkypunk

  • I'd wager to say State Radio is better than Dispatch

  • no way man, not even close, Dispatch had amazing, tight harmonies. The thing that made Dispatch so good was the fact that any of them could be the star in their own band, but they came together and made a single amazing band. There is NO way State Radio is better.

  • It's really just personal taste. Music's objective :-)

  • that would make it SUBjective

  • Like, Dispatch is always on my top tier, but ever since I got in to State Radio, it's influenced my musical perspective so much, so that I now love harder rocking stuff, and hard, energetic tunes. Stuff that I used to hate, haha.

I know where you're coming from. Dispatch is my all time favorite band, but I currently like State Radio more. If that makes sense :p

But nonetheless, music's SUBjective, i meant to say, haha.

  • I sort of agree. All three in Dispatch sing and play extremely well. In State Radio, the bassist and drummer aren't as good, and they don't sing, but State Radio can rock out and I like their style better.

Either way, their mix of reggae into their music is one of the reasons why they're my two favorite bands.
