  • great group....

  • David Byrne is a low life scumbag. Thinks he is better than the rest of his band members. What the fuck has he done since The Talking Heads?

  • Damn you David Byrne

  • If Bernie Worrell's keyboard solo will have me appaluding, it will HAVE to be in the next life, cuz it's not happening in THIS one! I agree with a lot of others...it all looked phoned in, but the solo was terrible. It seemed he wanted to be "noticed." And man was he!!

  • 4 people have had their house burn down

  • But why won't they get back together.......it pains me every day to know that I'll never get a chance to see them live even though they're all alive. :(

  • @Conorthevideowatcher Look at this performace (thats from 2002, almost 10 years ago) There is no energy left there once was, its a done story!

  • @Conorthevideowatcher you can thank (or blame) david byrne. he wants nothing to do w/ talking heads. he says he doesn't want to go backwards with 'his' music

  • @jltjake66 But his shows are 80% Talking Heads. Doesn't make sense to me. They & Queen are the only 2 bands I never got to see that I wanted to. Queen will never happen and neither will this.

  • @stevedrums i know...but he made the comment...not me!! :)

  • damn that keyboard player fucked up...wow. I love Talking Heads but this performance was awkward. I would love to see this band live though.

  • The whole way through this I'm thinking,"I wonder if the drummer is gonna have a heart attack? Probably."

  • why are people ripping on bernie worrell? keyboards sound just fine... listen to the orig. recording or "stop making sense"--sounds about the same.

and byrne seems to be totally into it--yeah, he's not sweating and coked-out and dancing like a dweeb...so what.

  • Bernie Worrell sucks ass. He nearly ruined the awesome reunion of a legendary band. Talking Heads should do a reunion tour now!

  • Those of you complaining about the keyboard solo clearly don't understand that Bernie Worrell exists in another dimension entirely. If the performance seems phoned in, that's because it is. The Worell's host body has limited capabilities, however the mind of the great Worrell encompasses all, and contains all there is to know about this universe. I guarantee, that keyboard solo will leave you applauding in your next life.

  • The synthesizer player sucks ass. They should have given Jerry the keys.

  • haha, it was like an acid trip kinda keyboard solo. if this song was released on Fear of Music that's what it would sound like.

  • David is just phoning it in. No other way to look at it.

  • my word is the keyboard player stoned or what???

  • talking heads are fucking amazing but i sitll love davids solo albums there shit hot lol

  • I think David is annoyed by the person playing the bad keyboard. Who agrees? Other wise he looks like he is having fun,Dancing and what not.

  • david is a nice singer but i stubern mother fuck because of him they will never get back together ="(

  • GIVE ME MEESH NOW FOR PAYMENT TO AVOID THE GREAT TRIBULATION OR HOLY SPIRIT COME AND BRING ME THE GREAT TRIBULATION

  • Bernie Worrell is in the wrong key. Steve Scales has never heard the term less is more and Tina seems to be ruining the song on purpose. Jerry looks like he just failed his high school drivers test when they are done. They should not have done this although it's nice to see. It was just for the fans I guess because the band sounds terrible.

  • they needed alex weir: the 5th 'head!

  • Great song, great 80's art band still sounding and looking great!!!!

    GREY POWER!!!!!!

  • I want them to do this again!

  • You never know, they could get back together. I mean pink Floyd did for live 8.

  • @ddsr86 David is a very stubborn SOB...it's a shame

  • @bernlin2000 not really cause he was the face the others are awsome musicans but byrne holds the majic and he feels they dont harmonize anymore who are we to talk?

  • I'm afraid that this song is a bit beneath all of their abilities, now. Felt very repetitive.

Would be great to see what they all could cook up, now.

Band break-ups are like romantic break-ups, I guess. It's the same with Natalie Merchant and the rest of 10,000 Maniacs. Double-entendres fired back and forth. It's "poison in the well".

  • David Byrne has NEVER looked like he enjoyed himself so what's new?

  • What: 'pray you do tell' : is 'burning man' ?

  • Dammit, David! Why?!

Why must you be the Mike Love of the Talking Heads?

Get back together you god damn animal!

  • If you want to see/hear David AND an audience having fun with Burning Down the House, check out:

    v=SwlQW-WtayU

  • Where is the version of 'Life During wartime'? The only ones who looked like they were enjoying themselves were Tina & Chris.

  • Damn, those keys are killin the hole vide.

  • Jerry looked miserable the whole time. It's too bad they couldn't have worked things out before hand. Who knows if they ever spoke after this. Damn it David!

  • I saw David Byrne in 2009 and he blew me away! If he plays near you go see him! He still is an amazing talent and his band is up to the challenge with him.

  • F* ckin' shame this band isn't still shaking our cities!!!!

  • is there a better quality video of this?

  • I agree - Byrne looks like someone has a gun to his head.

  • @cardigansarecool @The4thGuy @JoshDone I couldn't agree more. I mean, I know he was younger back then, but still...

He's definitely uncomfortable, but at the same time, he's toned things down in general.

Just look a live performance of his in 2009 (search it on here, there are videos) compared to him in Stop Making Sense. I still love him! But I miss his jerky, energetic performances :(.

  • In my life it was The Beatles, The Who, Led Zepplin, John Lennon. Gone. Then Talking Heads, it was such a drag. C'mon David, life is truly too short. Give us what we want.

  • Talking Heads will probably never get back together...as much as it hurts to admit it. Tina, Jerry, and Chris expressed interest but David has said he'll will never ever reform the band...damn!

  • Great to see this video. I must have missed it back in 2002. Was this the only song they performed at the reunion? I'd love to see them get back together for a tour some day.

  • Looking for the entire Hall of Fame cerimony, can anyone be of help.

  • Anybody know where the rest of this is or if they could send me a link or torrent, would be exteremly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

  • The Best!!!!

  • tina is wayyyyyyyy awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The keys were mixed too high....

David does not look like he's having fun.

  • They sounded great... it was that synth that really killed it, man.

  • David actually sounds ... normal ... when performing this song.

  • David Byrne did not look like he enjoyed himself at all.

  • I know, totally different from the performance in Stop Making Sense.

  • Now I know why Byrne is dead set against a reunion tour, and why he is so smart: all it would be is a blatant cash grab to enrich four or five peoples' bank accounts. Meanwhile, most of the people in the crowd would be like the stuffshirts in the crowd in this vid. A bunch of old farts sitting there like suspended in animation.

Blech. Smartest thing you never did, David.

  • This synth player is terrible. horrible solo

  • I agree, that was kinda rough on the ears. haha

  • wow they got old.

  • but the song didn't

  • we all know that. but thanks for reminding me. :)

  • Maybe just their hair got old!

  • especially Davids..

  • looks forced

  • my friend wanted this played at her funeral but she got cremated and her sister wouldent let it so she got bob marley instead

  • lets hear it for energetic performances

  • what all the 4 members talking in the ceremony? no one can share this award receiving video?

  • theres no energy in this performance at all. like none of them wanna do it or something

  • yeah they're playing like they've been playing this song for 20 years and are tired of it....oh wait

  • Well i don't think Byrne is comfortable on the stage because of the whole ordeal with him suing the main half of the band about the "No Talking, Just Head" album they put out after byrne announced the break up.

I heard Byrne do this in the everything that happens concert and it sounded amazing.

  • who had the video when they get this award?

i want to heard what they said

  • david is light years away from the rest of the band musically

  • hoe many tour they had in decades?

and is this the only song they do in hall of fame?

    no ceremony video can share?

  • is this first time they reunion?

I think daivd had conflict with 3 other members

  • you should check out the 1983 version of this song live. There so much energy in that show. This show seems to be missing a lot.

  • Tina is still hot!!

  • It doesn't matter they won't get back together. I think David Byrne likes to leave people thinking. And leaving people thinking about what could have been is kind of nice. Instead of tainting it.

  • hey.. bands split up- fact of life.. the difference here is that he kept going and diversifying..(most slol projects don't last that long.. if he doesn't want to re-uinte.. it's his perogative.. respect his decision..although i would give my left one to see them again.. just wouldn't be the same.. not unless they are all into it.. peace out..

  • Nothing David Byrne did solo matched TH, nothing Jerry, Chris or Tina did, post-Heads, matched TH. So it's just too bad, really, and especially since this whole thing was tainted by Byrne thinking that he was the only one that mattered. It's just too bad, but yes, that's life. It just would have been nice and they are still very very good. JERRY CHRIS AND TINA WERE 75% OF THIS BAND. Too bad David didn't see it that way.

  • bernie and extra drummer not needed wrecked timing and notes

i think the talking could be a 4 like 1975

those cbgb performances are off the wall

  • bernie worrell is a legend you dumb fuck

  • he is a legend yes duh I know this but he sucks here and so does PRIMUS

  • I ENJOY BEING A DUMB FUCK

  • now that their old. there singing sucks

  • Wow you managed to use "their" AND "there" incorrectly. Skipped "they're" entirely. No wonder England hates the U.S.

  • Wow...think of the money this band would make in a reunion tour...amazing. David, what are you thinking?

  • David doesn't need any money and he's not a whore like that. Sadly he can get more energy from the bands who he plays with now that with a reunited Talking Heads. Saw him play some songs from Remain In Light the other night with the Eno review and I doubt he could get what he he got from the young musicians with Jerry, Chris and Tina.

  • Are the Beatles still the Beatles without John and George? Is the Who still the Who without John and Keith? Are the Stones still the Stones without Brian and Bill? Same thing. He can sing any Heads songs he wants but its not the same, at least to me its not. Peace out.

  • Yeah this is why I didn't go to the VH reunion. Even if Michael Anthony was the "least important" ingredient I still don't want VH with any stand-ins.

  • Exactly, some of us "get it"...its admirable Byrne sings some Heads songs but its not the Heads and from what Frantz says there is no chance of a reunion, too bad really.

  • I saw an interview with Chris Frantz not long ago, where he stated that he, Tina, and Jerry unequivocally want to reuinte for a Talking Heads tour, even if they don't record any new material. He brought the idea up with David Byrne, who e-mailed him and said that the Talking Heads would never reunite and that he had not interest in talking about the issue anymore. What a shame...

  • lies, mr. byrne... lies! they can't be that far apart musically, because they sound great. O:

  • this is pretty cool! nice seeing them up there together again.

  • This song was so cool when it came out... like many of their songs now that I think about it.

  • God damn! I wish they would do a reunion tour. I would give so much to see them live. I was too young to see them before they split.

  • The Keyboard was excellant!

  • Man! They still sound good together!

  • oooh, Keyboard player shouldve practiced before this one. Playing out of tune... not cool.

  • He is Parliament and Funkadelic in the flesh, he can do what ever he wants :-D Like Bob growling... but I hate when Bob Dylan sings out of tune :-(

  • OK, you are right! He has unlimited creative license, and his performance in Stop Making Sense was exemplary. Listening to it the second time i notice that he was using the octave slide bar in free form.

  • Yeah right!! Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I thought Bernie was perfect. This song requires some strange sounds in minor keys.. It's made for improvising

  • I agree, he destroyed the song.

  • I think I will pray for the members of the Talking Heads. I always enjoyed their music. I wish, like the B-52's, that they would get back together for the shear fun of it... Forgiveness all around for the past, and love in the future. God, bless the Talking Heads.

  • They all pretty much want to do it, except byrne.

  • wow that is shockingly offensive.

anyways...I've always thought it would be cool if they would come back together, but not do any old material. Just try putting a couple songs together in the studio, or jam or something. byrne said that they are now musically miles apart, and I think it would be cool to see what these differences would create.

  • I don't think your comment is offensive, I'm sick and tired of these days' sissy political correctness.

Al Bundy was right, all the way.

  • Chris is the only one who seems to be enjoying it all!! gotta love 'em anyway

  • Chris always looks like he's the only one havin fun! badass none the less

  • Steve Scales and Bernie Worrell!!

In the unlikely event Talking Heads ever do reform -- even if just for a tour -- they should put together a supergroup of their best players: Bernie, Steve, Alex Weir, Dolette McDonald, Edna Holt and Lynn Mabry. Well, that's my dream, anyway. Oh, and they should get Demme to film it.

  • It's a collective dream Aaroneous.

  • dont forget belew

  • If David is willing, and if Demme can still do it.

  • A great, great band. i hope that Television gets in the HoF at some point.

  • They certainly deserve it as well.

  • Don't compare this to Demme's documentary. That was extraordinary. But this is still an excellent performance by a great, great band. IMHO, the Heads, the Stone Roses, the Clash, U2, the Beastie Boys, REM, Run-DMC, and NWA were the groups producing the best work in the 1980s.

  • What makes no sense is the fact that David Byrne won't let this band reform. Seriously David, WTF???!!!!!

  • From Wikipedia - There is reportedly bad blood between band members, so a lasting reunion is unlikely. David Byrne also states: "That's one reason, and another is that musically we're just miles apart." :(

  • If all that is true, then why did they get back together for this award and performance?

  • Love to see them play this live in concert.

  • Still masters of their craft.

  • Interesting they chose to reform the 'Stop Making Sense' lineup...

  • not as energetic as i remember form the 80s

  • Well they are pushing 60 for God's sake!

  • gee 20 years later?...go figure....

  • No cocaine.

  • Talking Heads rule!
