Waylon wrote it. But this is not a new version. It came out in 1981. It was just remastered and some instruments were added to the original 1967 - 1969 recording.
@WilliamPierce38 *ahem* Probably the sexiest ;) He was the entire package...Beautiful man, Beautiful Voice, Beautiful Soul. And he was always so polite :)
This surely is the version from the "Guitar Man" album 1981..? Felton Jarvis, Elvis` producer, "jazzed" up a bunch of songs with questionable results.
Anyone who likes this song hasn't really heard it till they buy Waylon Jennings Live CD he recorded in Texas in 1974. I think it was orininal released in 1976 . I think the CD is just called "Waylon Live" - But I'll warn you once you here it on there you won't like to watch this movie as much... and I love Elvis!!
That's right! And you could say the same for many of the songs on Waylon Live and some of those released later on the Expanded Edition. They're simply on another level. It's like those are the only versions I wan't to hear. I love elvis too!
LLLLOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEE YOUR ELVIS SO MUCH Elvis your my icon you are the light of my life i love you im 13 and i was born into your music and plus i know my name is JoeJonasIsHot but thats because i love elvis and the jonas brothers so love you elvis thanks for this vid
Elvis, there will never be another person to come close to his voice,or fame. We lost such an icon so early in life. He opened our eyes to perscription drug abuse. It was kept in the closet until Elvis died, he opened the door for many to recover.
This has always been one of my favorite Elvis songs. I've only heard Elvis sing this song. I like the other version of this song so much better. Elvis will always be #1. I'm so very honored to be an avid Elvis collector. Thank you so very much for making and posting that video, 5 Stars.
This has always been one of my favorite Elvis songs. This very marvelous and very fun song should be way better known than it is. Elvis will always be #1. I'm so very honored to be an avid Elvis collector. Thank you so very much for making and posting that very terrific video, 5 Stars.
I'm an elvis an much as the next guy, but no one can sing and perform this song like outlaw musician Waylon Jennings. It's on Youtube check it out i'm sure you'll agree as well.

I am "almost" sure that Elvis never did that song live. Am I wrong? I hope so
monteleone101 4 years ago
Yes. Elvis never sang live this song. He recorded this on December 11, 1973 at the Stax Studio in Memphis.
marco31768 4 years ago
yes on the Elvis Today album:o)

No. This song was released on "PROMISED LAND" album.

Oh yes you are right

This couldn't have been recorded live in 1970 by the king. Waylon and Billy Joe wrote this tune in 1973 for Waylon's Honky Tonk Heroes album.

good video, but was fixed, mouth was not going with the song, , but still another great song recorded by the king

Nice song. but this isn't live singing.
jonhut111 4 years ago
Yes. Elvis never sang live this song!!!
marco31768 4 years ago
I like Elvis's better than Waylon's--even if this one sounds like a "remixed" version. Elvis originally recorded the song in 1973.

I agree that Elvis sung a better version! Now don't get me wrong Waylon is a great singer ,but he is no king!!
