you are probably the best teacher ive ver seen. i own victor wootens super bass solo dvd and he breaks it down but not enough and you just get right into it. great vid man i subscribed.
I love this percussive approach. Works very well as a substitute for the pop, when using a fretless. To those saying this is cheezy or useless: your ignorance is shining through.
this is far from a useless lesson. took about 30 minutes to learn it. the little you did speak cleared up what i wasn't sure about. very well done. really fun to play and has a real manring/wooten feel to it. i had been wondering how to do a certain technique for a little while, but this cleared that up as well. thanks a lot!
I noticed you wrote this 4 months ago, but I wanted to reply just in case. There`s no real right place to slap. What it all comes down to is tone and playability for the player. I slap there too because it allows my thumb to get under the string more than if I slapped on the fret board. Victor Wooten typically does it there as wll.
thanks for the response, when learning this groove i did slap there as well, if only for replication's sake. you do get a slightly different sound which can be good if you're going for it. as it stands i think i still prefer the fretboard on my warwick rockbass corvette.
ahhh!!! something about bass guitars and how they sound give my brain an orgasm. i might prefer a bass guitar instead of a lead guitar. lol i just love how a bass guitar sounds, its sounds so easy, mellow, gives great "bass" for speakers, its the underdog of band music. what else can i say? lol
so..the plicking is first with the index on the D string, then with the middle finger on the G string, and then again plucking the G string with the ring finger? I cant tell..
I've seen almost all youtube's videos about bass lessons. You're really the best youtube's teacher!!! Thank you very much! Please post more and more Power lessons!!!
In the first little bit, is he plucking the G with his Index, then the D with his index, then the G again with his middle. Or is he doing something completely different. I can't tell.
awesome video! By breaking the groove into slow parts allowed it for me to learn it quickly. Keep up the Great work and i hope to see more videos posted soon.
what's the title of this bass solo? it sounds so good. is there any downloadable version of this solo and please tell me what site where i can see its tab. im just a newbie in bass and i wanna learn it.
This is the bass line from a song titled "Money Talks." The full version of this song will be released on a CD titled "Project M," Project M, (bass quartet) Michael Manring, Grant Stinnett, Rob Gourlay, and Jim Stinnett will perform debut concert and release CD at NH Bass Fest this summer.

To do this kind of slapping would you need to lower your action?

I always thought double thumping was two doublet slaps.
And double thumbing was slapping in and thumbing out.
W.e one letter difference in the same word.
Great Vid Grant! Cant wait to see you play at Berklee again!

I found this extremely clear and understandable. Very well done for a tutorial video. Cool groove at the beginning, very original.

Can somebody help me out with the harmonics part please?
The last two harmonics he uses when he moves up to B is he hitting the harmonics on the fifth fret G string and the fourth fret D string?

i find it hard to make a percussive dead note with my left hand like he does. i make like a half note-ish sound blended with a dead note.

Idiot is you! I can play it now. But it interesting to arrange it more and to make guitar section on it.
I'd asked cause its too lazy to tab it.

I was wondering if there is a reason you have your thumb over the pickups, rather than on the end of the fretboard?
