  • Chan eil ach beagan dè duine sam bith a' dèanamh oidhirp airson an rud mar seo. It is not many who will even try something like this. I applaud you for honoring the Gàidhlig language with what was a lot of work and discipline. Tang duibh! Thanks to you both!

  • Well, I'm not an expert, but I think that was brilliant. Thanks, ladies!

  • Well done, ladies. This brings back memories of having seen Sìleas in concert in Knoxville, TN in 1989. Math dha-rìribh!

  • Along time ago my friends and I had the CD Celtic Odyssey. The two girls from my group would love to sing it all the time and you two remind me of the times they would chant this over and over. Thanks for reviving those memories

  • My God, that was darn near perfect...

  • I can't believe how good you are, and from Utah.

    Thank you from Canada.

  • Absolutely love this... Wonderful job ....

I know this through Siléas whom I saw do this (in part) on Belgian TV back in 1987 (I think).

Still have that video.... I may upload that even though the quality is poor...

  • Baruch hata Adonai, Elohainu melech Ha Olam Om na shivaim!

  • gle mhath !!!

  • great singing :-) I first heard a recording of this by Sileas on a CD my mom owned when I was a kid. I was delighted when I found this video.

  • Good Job!!!

I love the Scottish Mouth Music!!!

The puirt-a-beul its a tipe of celtic chat, like the galician "Alala"

    Thanks.

  • Thank you for including "Thoir a nall Ailean ugam" - I love that song. I don't know why people bothered to mention your pronunciation of Gaelic, you handled it very well.

  • Thank you! I agree about the pronunciation... it was a task enough figuring out how to say those words at all! :)

  • It all looks odd at first to English speakers, but if you are interested in learning a bit of the language, the spelling conventions all make sense in the end! Great video!

  • Finally! I found it ! You lassies are just great!

  • Wow, you beautiful ladies brought a tear to my eyes. I haven't heard this in years. I heard a version just like you did back when I was 15 or so on a radio program that played on the local public radio station in north carolina, Thistle and Shamrock I believe it was called. I never knew who did it and I never heard it again but it always stuck with me.

    Aweome to hear it again.

  • Thank you!! That's so wonderful to hear!

  • How beautiful by all accounts!

  • YeeHaaaaaa!!! what a pretty voices and scottish girls!! Kss from an asturian bagpiper (^;

  • Brilliant. A now take a breath ;)

  • Math sibh!

I love this set of songs. :)

It's correct that you might not have the best pronounciation, but ... who cares, as long as the spirit within lives.

Is fèarr Gàidhlig bhriste nà Beurla cliste! ;)

  • Well done, very impressive, although it is obvious you learnt it from the cd, and arn't native gaelic speakers. Ach meal do neuchd, bha e gle mhath!

  • Yeah, this singing is excellent, but I confess, I wouldn't have recognised it as the Scottish language until half-way through, I think you guys have the tiniest bit of an accent there. Hehe.

  • Wow, just WOW! Excellent job!!!

  • Brilliant! I'm fascinated by the Celtic family of languages. Is the Scottish language becoming extinct, and getting replaced by English? Also, is knowledge of Scottish language dyeing out there? Finally, there are very striking similarities between this music, some American country music, and skiffle music. Brilliant!

  • Well.. you sort of answered your own post. However, personally, I don't believe any modern language will become extinct as long as we have it recorded, because being a futurist, I believe that technology will come to the rescue in the not too distant future, and that languages will have a renaissance, as we learn more about the brain, get good AI, get full HD internet, memory pills, and new techniques!

A friend of mine speaks/translates 12 languages using certain basic methods.

  • Wow! Great job! Plzzzz lyrics lyrics... someone who can write gaelic....

  • Click on "more info" on the right top of the page.

  • Wonderful! Really good stuff. Hope to see some more mouth music videos from you! Keep up the good work!!

  • Beautiful! Thank you for sharing.

  • Excellent, reminds me of Julie Fowlis. Greetings from Dublin.

  • Wow! beautiful voices and beautiful girls. Just like the Celtic Odyssey version.

  • That was fantastic! great job

  • fine singers ! and bonnie lassies!

  • Great singing! I was expecting to hear Patsy Seddon and Mary MacMaster (Sileas), now two members of The Poozies, but this compares very favorably.

  • Thank you!! What an outstanding compliment!

  • You girls could go pro! Very nice!

  • Wonderful performance from two very beautiful girls! Definitely one to be added to my favourites.

  • You guys sound GREAT - Right on!

  • The girls are singing "The Crooked Ewe/ The Old Woman would set The Old Woman would Reel/ Bring Alan over to me."

  • OH, cool! Thanks for the clarification! My sister & I can't actually read Gaelic, so the translation was one we just found on the internet. :)

  • Good job! What are the names of the songs your singing? Thanks! :-D

  • It's one song, called "Puirt a Beul" :)

  • 'Se puirt a beul a chanas sin ris an t-seorsa seinn seo ach chan e sin idir an t-ainm a th' air na puirt. Tha na nigheanan a seinn "A chaora chrom/ Sheatadh Cailleach Ruilleadh Cailleach / Thoir a-nall Ailean thugam."

  • Tapadh leat uistman59!

  • That's lovely.

  • Hey you girls are great, excellent Gaelic singing!

I'm mad about Gaelic language, I have listened to loads of puirt a beul and your set is so enjoyable! Way to go!
