wow.. it takes a very good fisherman (woman) at 3:56 to not set the hook on the initial miss.. I would've set the hook instantly when i saw the fish rise to the fly.. great vid.. tight lines! ;)
I started fishing with my mom at age 27 and am so glad she had the passion to share this sport with me. I grew up in Utah, near the Blue Ribbon waters of the middle Provo, but was never interested as a teenager. It's a wonderful thing to do with your mom, and I cherish the time it gives us together, as well as the places it brings us. Fly fishing women are a wonderful, supportive group.
Having grown up in Montana, and fishing the Belt Creek up high through the middle of a small mountain town, I appreciate the statement of "some of the best" waters in the West, as opposed to "the best" being in Jackson Hole. Great vid. My first fly rod was put in my hands at the age of nine, and I was told "figure out how run this rod". Still hooked at 40!
What is said and described is the true essence of fly fishing! Great vid! I've fished with many people with different backgrounds and even tho we all don't speak the same language, the feeling and excitement to site cast and having people witness an awesome strike has no words but something even greater! I've only witness smiles by the people i've fished with and yes an ocasional bad tempered time with a few missed strikes but, at the end of the day it's smiles and feeling great!
I would love to take my brother fishing up in Jackson. We were there earlier this year on our way to Yellowstone to do some photography and really want to go back to fish the area. Any recommendations where to go on the river and best season? Thanks for posting this wonderful video.
just a tip...i have fly fished for a while and learned from experience that i cant even get a fish to even look at a green bellied hopper. for some reason they just wont take it!
Oh I'm jealous you westerners get to cast dries to Cutthroats and Bows that will rise on almost any given day. My days in the east are usually spent nymphing and dreaming of the big green drake and hendrickson hatches that bring our wild browns to the surface.
This a great video! I just left Jaxson after 8 years and caught some of the most beautiful fish in the world. The cuttie's are an amazing species. As far as specific hoppers, mid summer, any sort of big foam typically does well. As far as the river in the video, I agree with Flyfisher85. Looks like upper GV, crystal creek. Buffalo fork blows the GV out of the water though.. no pun intended ;)
I want to know where this is. I'm going to be guiding in Jackson next summer and have been going there since I have been very young. This looks like upper Gros Ventre area near Crystal Creek.
How nice that you and your mother go both fly fishing ;-)
Me too I go fly fishing here in Switzerland but I'm a beginner so I have a lot to learn... but right now it's a lot of fun, even know the fish I catch are much smaller that yours ;-)
it just goes to show that when your fishing in a stream full of trout, almost any of them will go nuts for a well presented hopper pattern. great video.
Just for the record Simms is worth the extra buck or two,..and yes of the majority of circus freak sized cutty's i've caught and released It was on a Joes hopper stimulator pattern.
Thanks for posting this video. I lost my father 4 years ago today (1-6-05), to stomach cancer. I've posted this on other boards and do so again. To all you sons & daughters. Get out there with your parent or loved one. I miss fishing the Youghiogheny River with my Dad, but I've got the greatest memories of being with him. Don't put it off. Tommorrow gets here faster than you think. Thanks again.
Wow, I wished my mother fly fished too, but I guess I have to do it on my own, enjoy it cause mother knows best and the lesson she taught you about lifes best, fly fishing. Be gratefull and enjoy the greatest offerings of the outdoors. as my saying goes flyfishing forever.
Fantastic footage. Thanks for the effort you put into it. Enjoy and be thankful for the time you get to enjoy this amazing past time with your mum. Like all things, it ends all too quick.
Such a nice likeable video, I wish to be there!
I hope one day.

Thank you for every single second of that fantastic Flyfishing Video. It's cold outside at the moment...4 weeks to Christmas :-)
And there is no snow in Bavaria
Therefore I think about Flyfishing and not Skiing.
I have a few questions to you Outfits. Would be really glad getting an answer.
1. Which kind of rod do you fish. Company, Length, Aftma# ?
2. Which kind of reel (Company) do you fish, and where is the line from?
3. Which kind of fly is it?
Thank you for your answers!

This is a fantastic video! How do I get my wife "hooked?"
We both love the mountains but haven't got her turned onto the sport yet.

Not that I don't enjoy watching the dry fly takes but I was anticipating hearing "How Fly Fishing is Catching on with Women"

Fab video Simms. I'm a memeber of a group of ladies in the UK called Ladies Fishing, and will be sending this video to the girls.
We also recommend Simms waders as you are one of the few manufacturers who make clothing, waders for women.
Thank you
Regards
Anne
