@atonly nitrous oxide.. its the gas dentists use otherwise known as laughing gas.. its safe when in the hospital because it is given with additional oxygen but the way they are doing it in the movie is inhaling the pure gas which deoxygenates your blood and causes brain cells to die because they are basically suffocating. They dont feel like they are suffocating because that feeling is caused by a build up of CO2 which isnt occuring because he is still breathing

not really, there's no such thing as a "poor peoples drug" all drugs are still drugs no matter what effect they have on you.
