I think the chorus says "take it" in all instances. First line is "I can make it here in Hunger City," third line is "I can take it here in Hunger City." Sounds to me like the first verse is, "Stay home, city boy / With that television on / Warm synthetic light / Keep your mind off real life / Oh, stick to television."
