  • when you gently drive it itwill get warm much faster and you'll waste less fuel though

  • sounds like the guy from super bad lmao

  • Thanks for the advice. :) Now I know how to make my beautiful Chevy last longer.

  • this vid need to be mandatory on a dmv test..thing. but yea i always turn the ignition to the on.wait about 10 seconds, and start it...if its the first time of the morning and its freezing, ill wait 3-5 minutes minimum for the oil to loosen abit, then be gentle until it reaches optimal temperature. unlike most people who start and go, then haul ass in less than 30 seconds with a damn near frozen engine-like my mother -_-

  • i turn off the radio and wait till the fuel pump turns off then start cause the pump went threw its cycle then after waiting about a min to let the oil go threw i put it in gear then let it sit a lil so the tranny fluid can go threw too and drive and i dont go past 1500 rpm when cold too or hot

  • Should I do this with a manual car too? Because I don't think I notice that noise when it's in the "on" position. O.o

  • @TimelessCoconut if you want your pump to last longer you have to let it stay in the on position for about 5 sec then crank it EVERY TIME you start it and then let it warm up if its hot let it run about 30 sec to let the oil go threw the whole motor trust me itl last you a long long time

  • I didn't know about waiting for 3 secs in the on position. It's sitting right now lol

  • According to the Hinkle Charitable Foundation's Anti-Idling Primer, idling forces an engine "to operate in a very inefficient and gasoline-rich mode that, over time, can degrade the engine's performance and reduce mileage."

You don't need to idle a car for more then 10 seconds on a cold morning, idling for a minute or more will damage your motor.

  • @p51Aracing You are 100% wrong in your statement. The rings, bearings, valves, springs, and any metal surfaces in contact with eachother are not within tolerance SPECIFICATION at cold start (out by about .001-.003"). therefor, driving the vehicle under a load will deteriorate engine life drastically due to

    A) the extreme tolererance limits

    B) oil starvation to the cylinder head (takes about 25-30 seconds to reach all parts)

    C) Oil viscosity doesn't allow for proper PSI

    Dont argue without fact.

  • @p51Aracing I have done test to prove this.Including timing the amount of time it takes oil to reach the cylinder heads, via the use of a PSI gauge hooked up in series with the cylinder head, and used a engine Simtester to test amperage draw during cold start and hot start. The only thing idling does is make the engine run rich, but on computer controlled cars, CLOSED LOOP happens in about 10-15 seconds of engine start, therefor this RICH condition is overridden by the PCM. Learn before you speak

  • @p51Aracing your car will run "rich" in open loop mode till its at normal operating temp

  • BTW: bump the haters...we are all here to share and learn. Having anal intensions is jealous and I for one, have saved thousands and gained insight on how not to be played by auto dealers.

  • @DIYautotech...just found your posts and like the info I have learned so much visually on utube then using the Haynes. Anyway, I've been chasing an low idle for a few days and yes the 1.5 yr. battery could have a drain but i will check the although again. My 98 sl2 dohc idles two lines under 1k woth ft on the break but increases and smooth in park. what should it be in general when sitting at a light? I haven't changed tensioner or cleaned the throttle yet...just don't know what is OK idle

  • I have a question...what if I turn the key and turn only half way and then it shut down? Cause I didn't go all the way and wait till it start? Will there be any damage?

  • @OrangeChickenist Can you possibly re word that because it doesn't make sense

  • @DIYautotech sometimes I would turn the key half way (letting the key go too early) and it would start for a second and then turn itself back off...

    thanks

  • @DIYautotech What he/she is asking is if he/she turns it to the ACC (or on position) and switches it back off, that is, doesn't let the engine start up.

  • @OrangeChickenist ur not actually trying to start ur car half way are u??

  • very smart tip.you only need to warm your car for 2 min.

  • you just need to wait until your rpms drop down to normal idle range before driving, and VW's prime the fuel pump when you open the driver side door, pretty sure its the same for most german cars.

  • @DCxMagus very useful information! Thankyou for posting this. I want to make it very clear that as a human being I am very capable of mistakes when talking about automotive repair and maintenance. So please...If you notice something that doesn't sound right to you then bring it up and we'll be able to figure out what the best answer is.

I hope y'all enjoy my videos & also hope they help you learn more about how things are supposed to be done.

  • @DIYautotech I doubt the VW primes the fuel pump when you open driver door. i have an audi and it does not prime when i open my door. not to say that i'm answer to all but just saying. it only primes when i turn key half way before ignition and thats when i can hear the fuel pump buzzing. i have recently studied the benefits of what you talk about in your video clip. more people should heed your advice and instructions. good job.
