I'd imagine it would be faster and save on soda if you used a painter's technique for removal. Back and forth in straight, even swaths, only slower. Also would give a more uniform finish. Just my two cents. Willing to bet if you tyried it and timed it, and tracked the machine hours and soda usage, it would be noticeably more efficient.
@guyver280z No, soda is too delicate to remove rust or scale. We use a different machine to shoot a blend of soda and silica sand to clean off heavy rust and oxidation.
@nofreedom4racists Yes it does get rid of any coating on the metal. What you are seeing as black or dark grey is the factory bare electroplated surface. One good feature of soda blasting is that if the metal is treated and has a chemical bond as in the case of anodizing or plating the soda will not remove it. That is why vehicles stripped with soda will not rust immediately as long as the surface has not been sanded. Over a year and the Jeep in the video has not rusted and it is kept outside.
@jsb4life Anywhere from $800 -$1200 depending on whether it is just the outside or if we include the engine bay and inside the trunk. I would also charge more if the car has any type of undercoating as this uses up more soda than stripping regular paint would.
Why are you blasting detachable panels on the car ? to save time on gaps ?

The average cost of a car is $800 for the outside. If you have the car shell and want to do the inside and out it can run approx. $1200 - 1500.
