This has been a special song to me for some time. I have attempted to work out the guitar chords with little success. Can anyone give me a link to chords or basic progression?
I love this man with or without music!! This song is his life's story in a nutshell..saw him on the local Catholic channel and both he and his wife were as honest as they could be. What a testimony as to what God can do if you really, want Him to, also after you've given Him back control of your life. Thank you for posting manhatin!!
A great song,,,,Dion has a tremendous constitution,,,,thanks to his faith,,,sober for 43 years, I love his voice,, the Hank Williams via Bronx twang.
To my mind, the best anti-drug song ever in this talk-song address to drug users, well at least the best I have heard and I am a huge Dion fan, and although he was out of the public eye in the early 70's, well at least not in the pop charts Dion was recording some excellent material, I remember a great album "Sit Down Old Friend", he did must have been early/mid 1970's.
dion is second to elvis lmfao hahahaha!! man elvis couldnt even begin to have dions depth and realness about him!! dion writes and sings soul music man!! and by soul i mean music that touches ur deepest soul and heart !!!!
@thisismypage79 WE should compare artists because they all contributed in there own way..as far as a man with soul ? listen to Elvis sing gospel ..it he does not touch your soul then we are all soul less.
As a singer and stylist -- Dion is second only to Elvis Presley. He's that good. Always was. Seems to be able to sing anything convincingly. Never compromised his talent. He had a run of great hits and a nice respectful come back in 1968. But he should have never been ignored the way he is. Even Lou Reed thinks Dion is the real thing. And Lou would be right.
I had no idea this was a Dion song. I thought this was a Mott the Hoople song, as it is the second track on the Brain Capers album. Great version! A pleasure to hear the original too. Excellent.
My favorite singer. Forget the Lemonheads, listen to Mott The Hoople's cover of this classic. It comes close, but no-one can match Mr. DiMucci's pure voice.
I was just listening to some Dion songs and this one came to mind. God, what a song. It should be the national anthem for those who suffered as he did. I heard he was heavily into dope and finally got cured and became a born again Christian. This song moves me every time I hear it. It's one of my favorites of his. I once had a greatest hits collection back in the 80s and the original version was a lot better, this one is a remake and not as perfect as the other, love it just the same!!
doesn't have to be jesus...fine if that works for you, but not for everyone This song is the story of my life My head between my knees, now as crazy as before
After 45 years of shooting dope, chasing the dragon and putting about 300K of toot up my nose I'm here to tell you this song is the flat out truth. You don't have to become a born again christian to put the drugs down once and for all but God has to be a large part of your program.
45 years, when did you start when you were 8 or 9, wow......honestly all the rock biographies i read over the years have sort of scared me off of drugs....
He also becamse a christian. Before he did, he was snorting $50,000 a year in coke. And... that was back in the 70's, when 50g a year was a lot of money
Jesus is the answer for the dope addict, the hooker, and everyone else in between

Firstly, I would not be here today if it were not for this song. Secondly, this IS the original. Thirdly, Mott The Hoople's version is actually better, but it becomes a completely different song when they do it. Fourthly, there is a mistake in the lyrics posted over to the left: it is "namely my children and my wife". Also I have always believed Dion is saying "Richard" or "Ritchie" "Rez". Bottom line is, thanks for posting this!!!
Hey thanks for your imput. I still listen to it once in a while; it never fails to move me. I've seen too many people go wrong and down on their luck with vices they couldn't lick and that includes people out on the street I don't even know. All I can say this is one uplifting song that I would like for all to hear and adopt in one way or another. Glad you're ok and keep the faith and as they always say "one day at a time". take care, Jimmy
Ever hear Dion cover leonard Cohen's "Sister of Mercy"?

Heavy stuff, even for 1970. Sounds fresh today, not like the topic has a shelf life.
