Actually the music is very traditional. It is just that we are used to having a melody on the top of the syllables nowadays. The sundari of the woman on the right is simple too much. Not a very subtle performance nor very refined yet but give them time...

Just by wearing the costumes and doing the steps is not what bharatanatyam is.This should not be followed by the generations.Learn the art form purely and present it wih full fear that you have to keep up the tradition for years to come.Dont a create a mixed form of art.Every art is unique in its own ethics. If popularizing the art was the reason behind creating this, then i would suggest that there are other ways of doing it.Lastly, art is not for all, if it is for all then it is not an ART.
din't know if this performance is gud or not ...but i disagree with your idea tht "art is not for all" ...art is for each & every person who can find serenity , peace, passion in it ...
I agree, was that suposed to be adi talim? Is a very pure art that has an existance of more then 1000 years. With out the techque and the adavus peformed learned well one can not call their bharatanatyam. Alarippu is to show the dancers skill of bodycontrol the talim was wrong and so was the alarippu
I agree... I couldn't work out what the talam was or really what they were doing at all... may be harsh, but I learn dance in Australia and all of the dance schools here are very traditional
it is a plain chatushram. alarippus are not counted like adi, rupakam, etc. talam in alarippu means nadai (chutushram, tishram, etc.). this is a pretty standard alarippu with some untraditional accompaniment, that's all.
Actually, although dance in India was prominent since ancient time, bharata natyam as we know it has greatly evolved since its revival from near extinction at the beginning of the XX th century.
Magique !!!!

definitely i agree that art is for all. but my only concern was that if it is preserved as it is. sorry for my harsh words.
