@yes0genesis didn't drop any acid, but saw PT 7 or 7 times between 95-99. don't know their new stuff, but to me 'up the downstair' was the best one of theirs i have heard.
incidentally they were part of the space rock scene at that time, not so much connected to the metal/prog world. watched them play support to the likes of the ozrics and gong. thats before they went big! :)
Wow this is ultra vintage Porcupine Tree. Up the Downstair is an amazing cd with some of my fav songs of all time but then again most Porcupine Tree songs are among my favs ever.
Hey - thanks for posting this. I see Steve is playing a Fenix Strat in this vid . I've only got PT's most recent albums which are fantastic imho - must get some of the earlier stuff now too as this really good too.
@ Glen694U Their earlier stuff is much more trippy and mind bending than their newer stuff.
I love both eras of PT but still prefer the earlier less heavy material. Not to say I dont like the heavy stuff, I just love the atmosphere they create on songs like Fadaway, Darkmatter, Cloud Zero, The Sky Moves Sideways, etc.
You are right about that, the thing is that the delirium period had something that P.T. don't have now and in general all albums are very good except "fear of the blank....." which is lower in quality of music than the rest, but it also had some good riffs.
The thing that bothers me is when older fans just completely decide to hate the newer stuff. Its not like Porcupine Tree sold out or anything. They naturally progressed down the road they took. So it is very refreshing to here that you also like the newer albums as well.
Stuck minded people are everywhere....How can someone say "In absentia" or "lightbulb sun" or " deadwing" are not a good piece of Music???Sometimes fans think that bands produce albums for them...Which is WRONG.
man...Fear of a Blank Planet has Anesthetize..are you kidding me? it's not just the riffs, it's still a good album o__O
Anyway they have progressed and I really like the energy they have now. And The Incident is a really adictive album, even though my favourite album of 2009 is Steven Wilson's Insurgentes definitely
I wish so bad that more live clips and interviews from this Porcupine Tree-era was available... Great clip! Love this!

I feel Up the Downstair is the best album from the Delerium period, but their overall best album is still debated in my mind.

Anesthetize is a favorite song from that album BUT. Wilson try to reproduce a "TRAINS" song and you can hear that very clearly.....

Up the Downstair is amazing. I have the remastered double cd. Gavin plays killer live drums on the re-recorded versions of this song and "Fadeaway"!

I really second this, that album had some awesome psychedelic jam tracks. That being said i freaking love this band, and everything they've released.
