@beamsgirl08 That's not entirely true. There is a form to poetry. However, expression is formless. I never said that it was performed incorrectly (I would never say that about any piece). I am just saying that I am not hearing a poetic form to his piece but rather it sounds like he is simply expressing his ideas and views. Regardless, it was done very well and did a good job of showing how he feels about America's foreign affairs. Peace N' Harmony! Heh heh.

You're such a brainless cunt, typical Canadian. You can't accept facts that differ from the lies that you're taught that you need to believe to have pride in your shitty, inferior country that depends on America in every way. Go kill yourself.
Are you all forgetting that most of the audience are poets or at a high enough intellectual level to understand meanings hidden behind words and/ or behavior.
I really hate to hear people rant like this, while at the same time benefiting from all of the things that America offers. Just seems a little hypocritical.
I think the audience did get the message. They are cheering him for the way he said it. I very much doubt they're all thinking, 'yeah, America is a great country and I'm soo happy I live here.
@skatefish0418 If everyone who didn't like something about our country left, it would still be a group of territories ran by a tyrannical king in Britain.
@skatefish0418 Are you utterly insane? You do realize that if we kicked out all those who disagreed with America, that it would be a totalitarian state -- and thus not the United States of America. I'm glad I found this poem, it speaks oh so much truth, and no, I am by no means a liberal. I'm just not stupid.
hehe well i can honstely say i don't think this way. But i'm African American so because of my expirences here and history and such i don't brag about this place [:
he's so right all yall fuckers need 2 stop bitching bout "he's being satire and this is how they all feel" well thats cuz it IS how america feels andc thats wat america is!!! none of ur pathetic countris will do anything cuz none of you CAN!!! so stop bitcing and being pussies cuz we've saved EVERY 1 of your countries more than once!!!
Anyone that believes what this man is saying AND anyone that thinks the audience believes this man must see the video again cause everyone understands this as a satire.
@dkgainers nope, it's satire. satire is a genre of literature. Sarcasm has the same intention and delivery (they are basically the same thing) but if it's going to be choice between sarcasm & satire, then this is satire.
Not really what most call poetry. Just free, spoken word. He's making points. But I doubt most of the people got it. I think also the presentation(his voice pitch and mannerisms) kind of made them think that way instead of what he was aiming for.
I meant what most people think of poetry. Rhyming and prose and what have you, to a degree. But most people dont really get into the different kinds that make up the genre in the 1st place. They think it's all "roses are red, violets are blue".
i dont even think he was happy at the audiences reaction at the end if you look carefully (2.08), not the reaction he want. but then again his audience are americans.
@tbriscoeiii, interpret it as you may, but it's not your call to deem what is or isn't poetry. The reasons you provide don't justify your accusations.
"2. This is how a great percentage of Americans think about the world. That's the reason he can do this. Change to the British, French, or anyone else, and it falls flat. It works because it speaks the truth about how Americans really feel."
Well I think it could work for British or French. They had their moments too.
there are two sides to this that most people aren't getting.
1. He is being very satirical about how Americans feel about their country. He is taking it to the max, which is how satire is done correctly, to show the incorrectness of such an attitude.
2. This is how a great percentage of Americans think about the world. That's the reason he can do this. Change to the British, French, or anyone else, and it falls flat. It works because it speaks the truth about how Americans really feel.
its hilarious because the humour lies within being able to connect it with peoples real views, but at the same time being american i kind of feel that way myself, or at least its fun to pretend i do
apparently the majority of people were unable to grasp the satirical element of this poem. he's not glorifying the united states nor condoning it's blatant disrespect toward foreign sovereignty. he's doing the exact opposite.
No, it's like saying to be proud of belonging to the most powerful, most technologically advanced country on the face of the earth.
Think about this... you're on an American website. You're using an American computer, that runs American-designed software. The internet itself was created by Americans.
How is our country shit? We're the best country in the world, period. We're the world's oldest democracy, many countries around the world wouldn't even exist without us.
Oldest democracy, what you taking about? your government is full of lies & any body who thinks otherwise is either a fool or blind. & if any country doesn't follow your democracy. Then you guys will call it as a dictatorship. Now what kind of democracy is that? or did you guys redefine democracy.
Oldest democracy. The US has been a functioning democracy for almost 230 years, no other democracy in this world approaches that. Almost every other democracy that exists in the world today owes its freedom to the US anyway, especially Japan, South Korea, Germany, Italy, France, UK etc...
You know what's great about my country? Even if you say my government is "full of lies", the fact that American citizens have the ability to vote them out and vote in new people means we can change/progress.
0o0o and I forgot America is the last country in the world to recognize the reality that global warming is happening, and is the last to subside to alternative energies.
@MercenarySlick We also owe France. As a matter of fact we owe them first. If you are going to reference American history don't leave out things. Remember they helped us fight of the British, they went through a revolution around the same time we did, and they are the one who sent us the statue of liberty (they have one to). Not to mention the founding fathers wanted us to be a Republic they never wanted a democracy EVER.
@MercenarySlick you have to be kiding when you say those things about US and democracy? Most people that have picked up a book know that the US so called democracy is 1 of d most corrupt, lobyist and less transparent system in the world. There is an insane amount of money in the electoral campaign in d US and those who support your campaign are ultimately people you cant afford to displease while in power. thus american presidents are more acountable to weapon industry and bankers than voters!
@MamaEthiyopia Wow, shut the fuck up you retarded Canadian. You have no idea what you're talking about.
The US was a democracy when you were still controlled by the Queen of England. Canada is just as corrupt as the US. The only reason there is so much money in the US electoral system is because the US is a HUGE ECONOMY with a lot of money.
@MercenarySlick And that money was wrought by killing the native population, enslaving the black population for free labor along with 80% of the white immigrants - denying women the ability to vote/own property and only allowing white free males who owned land to par-take in the imperial process which has systematically pillaged other countries stealing their wealth & resources. We aren't called an "empire" for no reason - sheesh... You are such a simpleton...
@MercenarySlick And how can you say that most democracies are owed to america? America is known for wrecking democracies that does not cooperate with their interests. Have you not learnt about how the US supported dictators and assasinated democratically elected leaders all over the world during the cold war and still do today? Dont let the political rhetoric fool you. Your country was never out to establish democracies abroad, it was about capitalism ;) (sorry to break the news to you son)
@MamaEthiyopia I can say that because it's a simple fact that all intelligent people who aren't brainwashed anti-American idiots know. Every single successful democracy in the world today is that way because of its relationship with the US. It's undeniable. Every single country on the planet that is not allied with the US is not a democracy, go figure.
The US supported dictators? You mean like your own country did? Oh you didn't know that? Of course you didn't you're a brainwashed Canadian.
@MamaEthiyopia The US invented constitutional democracy. The US was a democracy when the rest of the entire western world was controlled by monarchies.
You say the US supported dictators. The US did. But so did every single country in the western world. You're just the typical unintelligent, uninformed monkey who has been programmed to blame the US for what everyone else did. Canada supported Pinochet. Canada actually gave more chemical weapon precursors to Saddam Hussein than the US did.
@MercenarySlick HAhaha, ur funny. U keep calling me Canadian. Ive lived in Canada for 4 months! I am from Norway. Get ur facts right. And the US did not invent consitutional democracy, that is a lie, i donno who told you that. Liberal Democracy traces its origins and its name to the European 18th century mostly France and the french revolution and Montesqieu who introduced the division of power that we have between the legislative, the executive and the judicial in modern day democracies.
It is funny how some americans get so defensive about what the US does around the world. We can not change it before we acknowledge it. I am not saying that the US is the only country guilty of this, but no other country is as involved all around the world, pulling strings by everything from supporting dictators, violating state sovereignty by military interventions and ruining national/ local economies by pushing privatization through their puppets IMF and World Bank. Read about AFRICOM etc
@MercenarySlick You need to read some serious history before being arrogant enough to call other people unintelligent or uninformed... Sheesh, I can't believe the drivel you unleashed here. The US did NOT invent constitutional democracy, it was a concept that was born over 1,500 years ago in Greece (which is why the word itself is Greek demos-kratos "people power") The fore fathers wrote a GREAT DEAL about their inspiration for the form of government, most of which came from ANCIENT empires.
Greece never had a CONSTITUTION democracy. You say I need a history lesson, you need a vocabulary lesson. The Greeks never had a constitution, they never had democracy as guaranteed by a law. The US was the first constitutional democracy in the world. Every educated person knows this. You're obviously excluded by the adjective "educated".
MercenarySlick is a moron - the people of America don't even elect their own president, the electorate college does, they don't vote for their supreme court justices, most of the states prevent any third party from being added to the ballot. As James Madison (a fore father of America) detailed in his congressional speech after drafting the constitution as to how America was designed: "to protect the opulent minority from the day laboring majority". You can't get more clear than that!
@AtheistScholar You're the typical liberal Atheist douchebag. Be quiet. You're weak, feckless, and apparently lashing out violently at the country that raised you as a way of coping with the fact that you're a reject.
& don't forget that America is a multicultural country with thousand of immigrant every year. No wonder why it the most powerful, & most technologically advanced country in the world, i will be surprised if it wasn't. So there isn't much to be proud off, period.
The fact that the US attracts so many immigrants, including from your own country, is something that I should be proud of. The US is a nation of nations, we're the most ethnically diverse nation on earth and yet unlike other countries with racial issues, we have been strengthen by it rather than weakened by it.
See, your source of pride for your country is probably based on nonsense like race and religion. You don't understand what real patriotism is.
we are a republic..... but every where has its problems and it was a good poem about how our government and obviously some of our people think its great we can do whatever we want with no repercussions
intended to be satire. But it can be taken as super patriotic. I realize he's trying to point out our hypocrisy by saying we've "done away" with all of it. But still, makes America sound like it totally kicks ass!
@ncxcrunner that sucks if you think it can be taken as being super patriotic. it sucks that you even move towards that path od thinking, there is no reason to feel your country kicks ass because it doesnt. O_o
Sounds more like stand up.

They think it's all "roses are red, violets are blue".

there are two sides to this that most people aren't getting.

Saying your proud to be an American...is like saying your proud to be shit.
alnakhli999 2 years ago
No, it's like saying to be proud of belonging to the most powerful, most technologically advanced country on the face of the earth.
Think about this... you're on an American website. You're using an American computer, that runs American-designed software. The internet itself was created by Americans.
How is our country shit? We're the best country in the world, period. We're the world's oldest democracy, many countries around the world wouldn't even exist without us.
You're a fool.
MercenarySlick 2 years ago
Oldest democracy, what you taking about? your government is full of lies & any body who thinks otherwise is either a fool or blind. & if any country doesn't follow your democracy. Then you guys will call it as a dictatorship. Now what kind of democracy is that? or did you guys redefine democracy.
alnakhli999 2 years ago
Oldest democracy. The US has been a functioning democracy for almost 230 years, no other democracy in this world approaches that. Almost every other democracy that exists in the world today owes its freedom to the US anyway, especially Japan, South Korea, Germany, Italy, France, UK etc...
You know what's great about my country? Even if you say my government is "full of lies", the fact that American citizens have the ability to vote them out and vote in new people means we can change/progress.
MercenarySlick 2 years ago
0o0o and I forgot America is the last country in the world to recognize the reality that global warming is happening, and is the last to subside to alternative energies.
kidryu16 2 years ago
@MercenarySlick We also owe France. As a matter of fact we owe them first. If you are going to reference American history don't leave out things. Remember they helped us fight of the British, they went through a revolution around the same time we did, and they are the one who sent us the statue of liberty (they have one to). Not to mention the founding fathers wanted us to be a Republic they never wanted a democracy EVER.
MrZLeroy92 1 year ago
@MercenarySlick you have to be kiding when you say those things about US and democracy? Most people that have picked up a book know that the US so called democracy is 1 of d most corrupt, lobyist and less transparent system in the world. There is an insane amount of money in the electoral campaign in d US and those who support your campaign are ultimately people you cant afford to displease while in power. thus american presidents are more acountable to weapon industry and bankers than voters!
MamaEthiyopia 1 year ago
@MamaEthiyopia Wow, shut the fuck up you retarded Canadian. You have no idea what you're talking about.
The US was a democracy when you were still controlled by the Queen of England. Canada is just as corrupt as the US. The only reason there is so much money in the US electoral system is because the US is a HUGE ECONOMY with a lot of money.
MercenarySlick 1 year ago
@MercenarySlick And that money was wrought by killing the native population, enslaving the black population for free labor along with 80% of the white immigrants - denying women the ability to vote/own property and only allowing white free males who owned land to par-take in the imperial process which has systematically pillaged other countries stealing their wealth & resources. We aren't called an "empire" for no reason - sheesh... You are such a simpleton...
AtheistScholar 1 year ago
@MercenarySlick And how can you say that most democracies are owed to america? America is known for wrecking democracies that does not cooperate with their interests. Have you not learnt about how the US supported dictators and assasinated democratically elected leaders all over the world during the cold war and still do today? Dont let the political rhetoric fool you. Your country was never out to establish democracies abroad, it was about capitalism ;) (sorry to break the news to you son)
MamaEthiyopia 1 year ago
@MamaEthiyopia I can say that because it's a simple fact that all intelligent people who aren't brainwashed anti-American idiots know. Every single successful democracy in the world today is that way because of its relationship with the US. It's undeniable. Every single country on the planet that is not allied with the US is not a democracy, go figure.
The US supported dictators? You mean like your own country did? Oh you didn't know that? Of course you didn't you're a brainwashed Canadian.
MercenarySlick 1 year ago
@MamaEthiyopia The US invented constitutional democracy. The US was a democracy when the rest of the entire western world was controlled by monarchies.
You say the US supported dictators. The US did. But so did every single country in the western world. You're just the typical unintelligent, uninformed monkey who has been programmed to blame the US for what everyone else did. Canada supported Pinochet. Canada actually gave more chemical weapon precursors to Saddam Hussein than the US did.
MercenarySlick 1 year ago
@MercenarySlick HAhaha, ur funny. U keep calling me Canadian. Ive lived in Canada for 4 months! I am from Norway. Get ur facts right. And the US did not invent consitutional democracy, that is a lie, i donno who told you that. Liberal Democracy traces its origins and its name to the European 18th century mostly France and the french revolution and Montesqieu who introduced the division of power that we have between the legislative, the executive and the judicial in modern day democracies.
MamaEthiyopia 1 year ago
It is funny how some americans get so defensive about what the US does around the world. We can not change it before we acknowledge it. I am not saying that the US is the only country guilty of this, but no other country is as involved all around the world, pulling strings by everything from supporting dictators, violating state sovereignty by military interventions and ruining national/ local economies by pushing privatization through their puppets IMF and World Bank. Read about AFRICOM etc
MamaEthiyopia 1 year ago
@MamaEthiyopia It's funny how brainwashed idiots like you get so defensive when you have your anti-American, jealousy-fueled idiocy disproved.
MercenarySlick 1 year ago
@MercenarySlick You need to read some serious history before being arrogant enough to call other people unintelligent or uninformed... Sheesh, I can't believe the drivel you unleashed here. The US did NOT invent constitutional democracy, it was a concept that was born over 1,500 years ago in Greece (which is why the word itself is Greek demos-kratos "people power") The fore fathers wrote a GREAT DEAL about their inspiration for the form of government, most of which came from ANCIENT empires.
AtheistScholar 1 year ago
@AtheistScholar Holy shit you're a fucking retard.
MercenarySlick 1 year ago
MercenarySlick is a moron - the people of America don't even elect their own president, the electorate college does, they don't vote for their supreme court justices, most of the states prevent any third party from being added to the ballot. As James Madison (a fore father of America) detailed in his congressional speech after drafting the constitution as to how America was designed: "to protect the opulent minority from the day laboring majority". You can't get more clear than that!
AtheistScholar 1 year ago
@AtheistScholar You're the typical liberal Atheist douchebag. Be quiet. You're weak, feckless, and apparently lashing out violently at the country that raised you as a way of coping with the fact that you're a reject.
MercenarySlick 1 year ago
& don't forget that America is a multicultural country with thousand of immigrant every year. No wonder why it the most powerful, & most technologically advanced country in the world, i will be surprised if it wasn't. So there isn't much to be proud off, period.
alnakhli999 2 years ago
Hahaha what? Are you hearing yourself?
The fact that the US attracts so many immigrants, including from your own country, is something that I should be proud of. The US is a nation of nations, we're the most ethnically diverse nation on earth and yet unlike other countries with racial issues, we have been strengthen by it rather than weakened by it.
See, your source of pride for your country is probably based on nonsense like race and religion. You don't understand what real patriotism is.
