I really enjoyed the book of Never Let Me Go, but I found it slightly disappointing compared to the film as the relationship between Kathy and Tommy is less strong. The ending's different as well, but the beginning and middle is charming. The way Kazou handles the different flashbacks is really admirable.
hello ther :) i enjoyed reading kazuo's Never Let mego, but i see the book you have has a different cover...what year is your book copywrited? and wher do you think your brother got it?
I just got so excited when I saw that you got House of Leaves because my friend read it and it blew his mind and I'm planning on getting it soon; so I definitely like your idea and can't wait to read it myself. :]
i was wondering, what are those snazzy little flipbooks called? like the sideways ones that make reading the book way more compact and such. are they just called flipbooks? i can find them here in sweden but since swedish isn't my native tongue i would prefer to find a few in english. i can't seem to find any websites for them that don't link straight to comic flipbooks. any ideas?
@awesomenerdfighter They're called flipbacks. I think it's a Dutch concept. Over here they're called 'dwarsliggers'. Maybe you will be able to find some online if you look for flipback.
I saw the movie version of Never let me go and was incredibly frustrated by it. I don't think I ever saw any movie that made me that upset before (upset as in mad at how horribly bad it was. Not in a badly made movie way because I actually thought it was beautifully done, but the entire story was horribly bad). I read that the book was supposed to be much better. Well we'll see. I plan on reading it too and look forward to your review.
I'm writing my Dissertation on Never Let Me Go! I love it. Much better than the movie (the movie's very reductive), as per usual, but I have to say the film does a phenomenal job of capturing the tone of the book. Also, i haven't read house of leaves either, but I have friends who have and it's phenomenal, apparently. You eventually get in to a rhythm and the style of the book becomes second nature (all the flipping and turning that's required, making reading a physical experience.) Have fun!
Woah I couldn't even have imagined you were 23, I was thinking more 19ish? Nevertheless 23 is NOT old and I certainly would NOT worry about it AT ALL. And I would just like to say you are my favorite youtuber, I love your book hauls and book reviews. You've inspired me to do the 50 books in a year challenge (which I totally have been failing at :/ ) And most of the books I have chosen to read are books that you have reviewed. So yeaa... DON'T STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING! :)
Happy birthday! I turned 23 last month, so yay for 23!
I mentioned my copy of House of Leaves in a recent TBR video and it's STILL in my TBR pile, so hopefully that will get read this month. I've heard great things about it!
I'm not the first (or second, or third, or fourth) person to say this, but you'll really enjoy Never Let Me Go. I sure did! The gorgeous movie cover is an added bonus.
House of Leaves is one of the only books my mom ever had to stop reading because it became too difficult and time consuming to read. Of course, she's the type of person who would read while driving. Annotating it and switching with Marion sounds really neat.
I had to read Into the Wild over the summer for school like 2 years ago and I personally didnt like it much. It seemed to repeat the same things over and over again. Plus it was required reading so that may be why I didnt enjoy it haha. Hopefully you like it better :) (I did however enjoy the movie lol)
Into the Wild is FANTASTIC book. I highly recommend it! It reads like fiction despite being fiction which I really liked. I also liked the way Jon Krakauer supplement's Christopher McCandless' story with Jon's own experiences in the wild. Because Christopher is gone its impossible to know how he really felt but hearing how Jon felt in his own life or death experiences definitely helped me get a better idea of how Christopher might have felt. It's an all around great book and really made me think
Happy Birthday! I've been wanting to read House of Leaves forever but alas I am so poor and it is quite an expensive book. I've heard it's kind of scary and very meta and just looks so cool. Also, I feel very proud to have read both Never Let Me Go and Into the Wild before seeing the movies (and actually preferring both books to the film versions). I can't wait for you to review everything!
I saw Never Let Me Go the film and have yet to read the book (don't tell Hank Green!), but its high up there on List of Things To Read. You'll have to share your thoughts on how you like it!
Into The Wild helps you make more sense of the movie. It's totally worth owning. I didn't realize Never Let Me Go was a book. I saw the movie quite a few months back.
I read Into the Wild awhile ago and really enjoyed, I watched the movie first then read it and the book gives more insight on his travels. And more backstory of the locations he visits.
Never Let Me Go is a really great novel. I think you should consider reading it first. I've been meaning to pick up and start reading Across the Universe.. I should do that...
EVERYTHING to do with into the wild is amazing. It's my favourite movie, and has the most amazing soundtrack! If you like the book, you should check out into thin air, which is written by the same guy, and the film adaption for that is amazing, my second favourite film after into the wild :)
Into the wild is amazing, and as great as the film is, as awes inspiring as the soundtrack is... it is the book that is the real deal, a life changing read, in my opinion. Please do film a review.
I've read a bit of Hark a Vagrant on the creator's website. Hilarious stuff! That collection of comics is what inspired me to give graphic novels a chance.
