  • Good Drill for timing against escape attempts.

  • Very good video guys, I don't know what these guys are so upset about, I think that they did'nt see the title and it said "drill", now if this was a real match, or "real" fight, i'm sure that he would have used his hands, but to his defense, it look like he had a good shrimp tech. anyway thanks for the drill. we'll try it at our next class.

  • He was referring to the execution, so don´t get too pissed about it, ok? There´s certainly some truth to what he was pointing out. Oh, and Rickson is not god, by the way ;o)

  • Cool

  • the proper way to "shrimp" is to push the knee while bringing your own knee inside for a guard (or half-guard). The bottom guy didn't, thats why the drill is not that effective.

  • This drill is not effective?? So what you're saying is that the black belt is wrong, and you're right.

    What were your credentials again?

  • And who the fuck are you to question me? Are you important enough for me to give my background/credentials? You dont even have a stupid video related to martial arts uploaded. Not a even a lousy Shaw bros kung fu clip from the 70s. Im not questioning the BJJ guy. But the drill itself. LOOK at the bottom guy. He didnt even used his hands when he "shrimped". DO YOU DO THAT WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO ESCAPE A MOUNT? Try it first - before you retort. Geez!

  • Nothing? No credentials?

  • whats wrong with you?! the exercise isn't for the guy in the bottom, its for the guy on top, its just a drill, the guy in the bottom doesnt actually wanna escape. ITS JUST A DRILL, next time think again before you question a black belt trying to teach us something!

  • This is a drill/technique that Rickson uses. So Rickson teaches ineffective drills/techniques?

  • @walrus1981

Actually, the proper way is to use the elbows, which is why some call it an "elbow escape". If you're using your hands on the knee, your body is too straight or elongated and not "crunched" up enough to execute the technique with maximum leverage. That said, some high level black belts will grip the pant leg by the ankle if they cannot get their elbow inside the opponent's knee.

    Peace.
