I don't understand why the Torpedo Bay is to be painted blue. In the films, like The Undiscovered Country, the Torpedo Bays appears to be Black or Dark Grey.
Great idea, wrapping a decal around a styrene tube to make the turbolift tubes. You may want to try and reduce the LED's brightness by using a higher resistor value, that might help with the problem of light leaking through the decals. Darker colors/heavier print mode might help a bit, too.
Great work. Your dremel drill set is interesting. Just found out about this product recently and makes perfect sense for modeling (instead of having a a huge drill table to do detail work). This is probably one of the best Star Trek kits around that allows so many add-ons to the shuttle bay. Maybe there's a way to can add a small removable panel to allow view into shuttle bay to show off all the detail. Just a thought.
Glad to see you using Probert's original painting as a guide for colors. I have never seen any other builds online where the modeler has tried to match those colors. The cargo bay walls and catwalk rails appear to be green to me in the matte painting as well as in the HD screen capture. Do you concur? This is something I have noticed that no one seems to use in their choice of colors. Yours looks great so far!
@fraley1701 I'm glad someone noticed that! Yes, i agree totally and I was originally going to paint my cargo area walls that greenish color. What I noticed though was that the walls were greenish down to the floor and that the matte painting part of the cargo storage (under the lifts) was greenish but where the actual live stage began was gray. So, I opted to think of all as being the same color, and then chose to use the color from the set (so I didn't have to mix). But you're absolutely right.
@finalfrontier1701 Yes, I agree where the set wall colors lean more toward a gray hue than the wall colors in the matte painting. I think it's difficult to say for sure, but stage lighting could contribute to the color we see in the pictures or screen caps. Another contributing factor could be the set builders could not, or did not, match the exact color Probert used in his matte painting. I think your interpretation looks great however and the final look will be well worth the effort! :-)
@spacemouse1 Glad you enjoy it. I'm trying to take it slow because I know I'm gonna screw up and want to be in the right mindset to backup and retrace my steps if I need to.
That's a lotta ref! Seeing that light thru the fiber that first time is exhilerating! Nice work! It shows! A larger fiber gauge is also more difficult to bend in that tight space along the inner hull.

Great job so far but loads of work ahead of you. Fiber obtics can be tricky to work with, why not try strip LEDs for the walk way lighting

Can't wait to see it finished!

@fraley1701 The rails are also the same color, but I wanted them to stand out a little bit. So I chose a lighter grey to stay, sort of, within canon.
