just an aside, but does anyone else out there think that, if Pete and Roger can be put in the same room again to record, Dave Grohl ought to be behind the drums for at least one song?
No disrespect to Zak Starkey - he's a great drummer - but Grohl's got that animal, "take no prisoners" attitude behind the skins that makes me want to hear how he'd make Pete and Roger sound.
Grohl is one lucky mofo to get to share and play music with the great legends of Rock n Roll! Daltrey, Taylor, May, Lemmy, John Paul Jones, Page, Alice Cooper, Tenacious D, QOTSA, Nirvana, Germs & many more!!!...Rock on Dave!! \m/
Bet you most people there wouldn't even realize how lucky they are to be able to see this kind of show with the singer from The Who performing for them.
@Jaysin13 Of course no one wouldn't mind to see Grohl drumming on this song... He's a beast because of the influence of Bonham and Moon ;)! Totally agree with ya!
@jaqua524 Moon is the king of all drummers and always will be, but Taylor Hawkins is a great fucking drummer and he does a fine job on this song. Don't disrespect that, buddy.
@erock195: Oh yeah. When he first sang it, *he* was the young man who ain't got nothin' in the world. Now he's the old man, with all the money. Still sounds pretty good though.
Back in the day, he was always ready for a fight though he's reportedly mellowed a bit. In 2002 he had to be restrained from going into the audience to punch out someone who threw a bottle at him. Unfortunately that vid has vanished from YT.
He reportedly decked Townshend a couple times during arguments in the old days. In a relatively recent interview Pete recalled that when they first met he considered Rog "a yob, a thug". No question that a part of him is still a street fightin' man!
this performance just shows how valuable keith moon was..man, the drummer for the foo fighters..doesnt even hold a candle to keith moon..not even close..this just sounds bad without moons drumming...good for them tho
You'd never see Pete Townsend playing with his hair like that., LAME. Dave Grohl fits right in with Jimmy Page. They're both sloppy guitar players doing cover songs and getting way too much money for it. Mad props to Roger though...
@danielhl22 I think you mean to say "bitter person". I ,being a singular entity, am not a "people". I can really feel the intelligence in this conversation. Wow...I'm just floored.
Roger just gives it his all! He ain't afraid to hit those notes! It's too bad he doesn't have Pete here and has to contend with this wanker instead! Pete may be an old codger these days but he could still wipe the floor with Dave! Just you wait poster boy Dave will be doing piano bar versions of 90's hits in Vegas in a couple of years! Foo on you Dave!
This video isn't a particularly bad example, but Is there anything more annoying than a crowd full of people with their phones out? There is something ridiculous about paying to see a band and then watching whole songs through your tiny phone screen.
Rant over. Young Man Blues is ace. The Who's version is a classic! Dave Grohl headbangs like a champ.
@Jag117 Obviously & I'm grateful 'cause I wasn't able to be there myself. 'Annoying' was the wrong word. I'm just saying it's WEIRD (in a strangely considerate sort of way...) that people who do pay for tickets then spend the whole concert viewing it on their phones so they can share it later with people who didn't pay. I mean it's different to sharing other stuff, like MP3s isn't it? Because when you film something on your phone it affects your original experience in a negative way.
This song has been in the FF repertoire for a couple of years now .... The played this song at the 'VH1 Rock Honors The Who' show two years ago (go ahead .. look it up : It's here on YT) ..... Dave sings it with gusto, and the band plays certain elements of the Who's 'Live at Leeds' version .... VERY cool to play it with Daltry ...
Foo Fighters: The last epic rock show. It's not about brutality, it's not about image, it's not about being cool, it's not about looking like a scene kid, and it's not about being the sexiest floozy around. It's about guitars, drums, bass, and rock and fucking roll.
@TheSuese actually..I saw ZZ Top a few weeks ago, better than anyother modern band ive seen, including the foo fighters (no offense)...but they rocked, musicians back then were just much more talented..its sad :(
Thank you so much for sharing this! Very few bands can match The Who, but The Foo Fighters certainly have the balls and the guts and the chops to do it!
Who the hell are the two dinks that disliked this? And why? Roger was influenced by American music particularly Elvis & Chicago Blues. Bands today now, more than ever over the past 10-15 years have actually had the ball to play Who tunes in their sets and Rog & Pete have embraced their positions as pioneers to the GENERATION. It's music for the ages for all ages...
well... I never thought I would see this, and I never thought it would sound so good. Mr Daltrey sounds more fired up than I've heard in a long time, and looks great... No one in the music industry deserves a godlike genius award more than Mr Grohl, these two men are proof you don't have to burn out by the time your 30.
Daltrey must be high as fuck feelin those vibes.
