You have some good points. Obviously things are changing and we are seeing it happen. As sort of a parrallel point, I recommend reading BURN RATE (discussion in 1996 over how internet and media would evolve). Similar issues of confusion, but one key insight was participation drives internet ("chat"). That's why you shouldn't dis the typers too much...
If you like good writing...read BURN RATE. It's like Hunter Thompson or Tom Wolfe...but even better. Was best textbook I ever had for an MBA class...or well...most enjoyable.
It could help you make money. It could even teach you something. And it is a good break from working (if you go full time). It could also be a waste of money (particularly foregone income). I guess it sorta depends on your situation, capabilities, and tendancies. You like comedy and writing...so maybe check out "House of Lies" by the writer for MTV's popup video...who went and got an MBA. (If you want to talk more...send a PM.)
Since I got on YT & started making videos I hardly even watch TV anymore outside of NFL related programming, or news. Maybe an occasional docum. TV has been around so long now that to an older guy like me the majority of it is rehashed garbage. I'm not gonna waste my time wading thru all of it to find the occasional nugget of inspiration.
I find myself falling asleep trying to watch TV shows with my wife (which angers her) because I've grown accustomed to the interactive nature of YT. The lack of interactivity bores me. My brain wants to be in gear not in idle.
I've also grown tired of the sacrificing of intelligent content for the over-production of style. It's like cotton candy. It's for kids.
On YT I can find videos by regular everyday people like myself & get a pretty honest opinion about a topic, at least for now. On TV I'm bombarded by propaganda & social engineering pieces by special interests groups with agendas & it's nauseating. Writers are going to have to change the way they conduct business to survive just like so many of the rest of us in other professions have.
oh snap...we are going to be movie stars lol nah j/k. I think you are right I dont even look at TV that much anymore. you can pick whatever shows you like online and look at them.

Of course. But ultimately it only adds to the fun on both sides of the table.

MBA eh? I've debated the value of an MBA for years. Whats your take?

HEY! Don't get me started!

I think TV needs more on demand channels so you can have a choice of what you watch.

Sort of like a digital cable package expanded?
EricQuick 4 years ago
