For being a "throwaway" song, this is magnificent. Had it been done by a "serious" artist, it probably would have charted, and become a classic, resulting in countless cover bands keeping it alive. Alas, it is an obscurity, but it's a golden one, and I hereby pledge to bring it to new audiences (if I can get my cover band to cooperate). I've already got a medley of it and No Doubt's "Hey You" in my head.
Most frustrating experience when this song originally aired, 'cause I couldn't wait to hear it again, which meant I had to wait for an episode re-run. Thank you for this.
kool / i know this was in the top 50 / wow thats when any good song could be in the top 50 or 40 , forget about the group / it is the music and this is a good song..
After hearing this song on here I bid for and managed to get the Cd of the banana splits songs plus the Beagle songs too.I forgot about half of these. Definitely not songs for the kids, it's a bit too adult sounding.I don't think they'd get the soul stuff on there.
Thanks for bringing this song to my attention,memories,memories.. fab!!!
We soo need a legit CD release of this album..with bonus tracks like "Adam Had Em", "You Had Your Chance" "The place for the music to come out", and all the tracks from the Kellooggs mailorder EPs. This song in particular should have been a hit.
Agreed...This song has been with me since I was 7 years old..... never forgot it. Thanks for post it. Wish I could bring those summer days back. Where did our society go wrong?
@MrBrisey I ask myself that question everyday, when did it not become safe to go to school?,when did kids start foul mouthing their parents?,what happened to respect and courtesy?,for me it changed in 1990 when my brother died from cancer at age 17.and what can we do? Parents dont care, teachers hands are tied, and today everything is SEX,money, drugs, and drinking.I so wish I were a child again in the 70's
@delideliver I agree with you on that one. I often shake my head and ask the same question, and the crap they have on Television these days and then they wonder where Kids are getting these ideas from, it's just enough to make you break down and cry sometimes. I myself grew up in the Eighties, being born in 72, and have shown my Kids this show and they love it. I can honestly say that I am blessed that my Kids don't act up or cause any drama, we can only pray that things get better.
@delideliver when i was a kid in the 1970s - sadly there was less respect in schools and more foul language - and violence, i work in a school now and one hears little of what i had - thankgod,
@delideliver I am sorry about the loss of your brother,i had a cousin that passed away from cancer many years ago. The doctors did what they could but she suffered so,because they didn't have the advanced cancer treatments in the 60s that they do now.
Absolutely agree: thanks so much for posting - I can't have heard this in 30 years - and it's just as beautiful and poignant as I remember. You've made my day. The Banana Splits rock.
Great. As poignant as the Monkees Porpoise Song. When I was a kid I always thought Bingo was played by Mickey Dolenz. Somehow, I still feel the resemblance is there. ..Maybe its just the permanent smile.
@ALFHARDY Right there with ya man and this song kinda has a little Nesmith sound to the vocal. There was defiantly an attempt to capture a little of the Monkees magic and apply it to the Banana splits the Lion was kinda the Nesmith Bingo was of course Micky the Elephant was Peter Flegal was obviously the leader kind of a mix of Moe Howard,Groucho Marx and again Mike Nesmith I guess they didn't want a Davy Jones. Of course I may be completely wrong about all of this
@Trell7369, according to an interview in DISCoveries magazine, Ritchie Adams and Mark Barkan sang "Wait Til Tomorrow". (They also wrote "The Tra-La-LA Song" and "We're the Banana Splits".)
Very good. 1969. Iwas 7 yrs old and loved the B-splits. " UH OH CHONGO!" Danger Island ! lol.. Things were alot different back then. thanks for posting. If your from the Bay Area ( SF) remember Frontier Village ? google it,some good web sites.
After two months of research I found out who the studio singers were, and it surprised me. The musical voices for the Bananna splits were none other than:
Joey Levine; Al Kooper; Barry White; and Gene Pitney. All well known in the 60s for their own works. I was way off base thinking Ron Dante (The Archies).
How did you find this out? I know they wrote several of the songs on the album, (Pitney wrote "Two Ton Tessie" and Barry White "Doin' The Banana Split", but that's no guarentee they saing on the tracks. Admittedly it would be so cool if it were the case. I've been wanting to find out who the band was for years!
I do have a copy of the CD- BTW (it's mastered from vinyl)
After all of the hunting around I did a Wikipedia search, and low and behold, the answer was there. Duh, If I'd only tried to be so simple in the first place.
How does some one get a copy of the CD "We're the Banana Splits/Here Come the Beagles," there were only 1000 made and i want a burnt copy! Anyone know anyone
OMG! Thank you, thank you for posting this! Of all the Banana Splits' songs, this one was my ABSOLUTE favorite. The lyrics were a little sophisticated for a kid show, but the melody stayed with me forever. So very glad to hear it again after all these years. I'm back with my little sister, waiting for The Arabian Knights! Thanks again.
Thanks for posting this, JFBridge. I've always loved this song. You wouldn't normally use a word like "haunting" to describe a kiddie show pop song, but that actually fits. There's such a melancholy to the lyrics. "We had it once, but we let it go..."
Trippy Psych-Pop at it's best, and so fondly remember the UK repeats in the early 80s when i was a nipper....as soon as this tune comes on, it takes me back!
Does anyone know the band which recorded this? It sounds reminiscent of The Loving Spoonful, would anyone agree? I would be very grateful if anyone could put me in the picture. This track was my fave Banana Splits song!
SJYNYC asks "Anyone remember a song called "Bouncing, Bouncing, Bouncing"... I think it was a song from the Harlem Globetrotter's cartoon?"
Yes, that would be "Bouncing All Over The World." You are correct that it was the Globetrotters, 1970. Neil Sedaka wrote the song (and several other songs on the album). Great song.
I can't beleive I ever wasted a moment of my youth watching this crap! This, and Scooby-Doo too! And now here I'am 30 years later still addicted to it! HELP MEEEE!!!!
It's amazing when you first hear it as a kid you don't think much of it but when you hear it again the first time, What a difference you get to appeciate the song more. I find this to be the best song ever.
A friend of mine heard my playing this song and they didn't know who it was. He asked, "The Mamas and the Papas? The Turtles? The Lovin' Spoonful? The Moody Blues?" No! the Banana Splits. He fell off his chair. Who would have thought?
Wow! This is the one Banana Splits' song that I remember. And I loved it! I'll bet it could have charted, had it not been released by a Saturday morning TV show mock-Monkees group. It sounds a tad like the Strawberry Alarm Clock to me.
I first listened to this song when I was a child in the late sixties, and have Loved it ever since.I still have that feeling of warmth listening to the song again.
I do agree with you. They also shot the song of this video in San Francisco. They showed a 1968 Chevrolet Impala driving across the Golden Gate Bridge, Fishermans Wharf, Alioto's 8, Fishermans Grotto 9, Tarantino's, Castagnola's Seafood Restaurant, Lombard Street and Coit Tower.
For being a "throwaway" song, this is magnificent. Had it been done by a "serious" artist, it probably would have charted, and become a classic, resulting in countless cover bands keeping it alive. Yesterday we said our love could'nt last
And if we finally cried all over the past
I dont know just how we lost our way
But I know we can't make love come back today
So wait 'til tomorrow, we'll find each other then
Wait 'til tomorrow, tomorrow we will learn to love again

Riding through the meadows all through the night
searching for the star that once was so bright
We had it once but we let it go
The warm affection that we needed is so
But wait 'til tomorrow, we'll find each other then
Wait 'til tomorrow, tomorrow we will learn to love again
