I have always disliked Jekyll and Hyde and Frank Wildhorn in general but this song was stunning and Linda Eder is an amazing performer and very underrated.
I saw Linda Eder perform in the Jekyll & Hyde production, when living in the 90's in Colorado, she brought the house down. As fabulous in person as she is listening to her recordings.
If you played the CD's verison right after this I'm pretty sure people wouldve enjoyed the live version alot better. Thats how freaking good that just was!
@herter52 I sure hope there is a revival! I'm kind of looking forward to the movie, but at the same time not because I don't think a movie cast could live up to the performances of Andrew Warlow and/or Robert Cuccioli. What say you?
Phenonmenal video. There must be a huge amount of Jekkyl fans out there for all these hits years after the musical ended. I never felt that it was produced well in the NYC version. The original version in Houston in the early days is THE BEST! Linda had a great concept album with Colm and of course the wonderful Andrew Warlow. One of these should have been the co-star with a better Producer like Hal Prince or Cameron Macintosh. I am optimistic for a revival.

Holy Crap! Is Linda Eder amazing or what??? and gorgeous too - J&H best musical of all time....how can there possibly be 14 dislikes - are people kidding me?
@ginapleeds I hear you. I can understand that we all have different taste, so I can "see" someone saying "it is not my thing" but I CAN'T get saying it is not good--that is a fool speaking. She can sing, whether someone likes it, or not. For me, I both like it--a whole lot and KNOW it is really good.
@ginapleeds Honestly, I think it is just people taking a "free shot"; you know, when someone is good, it is easy to hide at home and type in stupid things. As you say, 14, what a joke. It really is fine to have one's own taste, and not go for her--though I can't imagine it for me--but to say it is bad is a stupid person talking.
I prefer Colleen Sexton's voice but Linda looks more raw kind of like Dulcinea From The Man Of La Mancha. which makes this song more meaningful in a way.
@jpdeepscore I was thinking the same thing! She sounds so similar to Barbra.....it's kinda crazy..I mean you can tell the difference but she is close!
I guess Regine Velasquez and Martin Nievera gave more dynamic and heart to broadway music like this one in their concert together. They made it sound pop but still sound great!
Check out Martin Nievera and Regine Velasquez- Broadway Musical Medley
@napazu I watched Martin and Regine, they were great no doubt. BUT, "more dynamic and heart" is not right. This version is also great, one not better than the other, one not "more dynamic and heart" is just not right. You can't beat this version in my opinion
I forgot how beautiful this song was. I met Linda Eder in the 90's when she did "Jekyll and Hyde" in Houston. She was so nice giving autographs and pictures. I just got a brand new camera and couldn't get it to work. She was so kind enough to pose again for a picture. One of my favorite musicals in the world. Linda is beautiful person inside and out! My friend is singing this song at my wedding next month. I'm so excited now!
It always amazes me how incredible vocal talent utterly enhances a woman's already-impressive physical beauty. She's a knockout, based on looks alone. Add that incredible voice, and I'm ready to lay down my life for her.
my women's choir is singing this, when we got the sheet I screamed "OMG! JEYEKLL AND HYDE!! YAY!" My teacher looked at me and laughed and I laughed and said "I love that musical"
Her voice is amazing, but it just doesn't possess the emotional power that Coleen Sexton has. I think it may be that she's performing on a talk show here.
I was so right when I heard Linda for the very first time on the talent show, I knew that she was a stand out and she has proved me right! She has a bell tone and wonderful range. She is beautiful and strikes a lovely presence on stage. I'm thrilled that she is doing so well. Love her voice. She's very special!
She is so amazing!! I've seen her 3 times. It's been five years since the last, and cannot believe she is coming to my hometown in July... and I'll be in the front seating.. I am so blessed and CANNOT wait!! : )
I had the pleasure of meeting her in Houston once, after she had just given a concert with the Houston Symphony, that would have been about in 1999 to 2001 time frame.

she sings pretty good but i've heard this kind of voice and singing technique from Barbara Streisand. I'm hoping for some originality or maybe it just so happened they sang and sounded the same.
Linda appeared, last night, in Raleigh, NC at a taping of Clay Aiken's PBS Special (to be aired in early summer) to do a gorgeous duet with Clay of 'Crying' (Roy Orbison song)!!! They were fantastic together.
Linda perfomed in Chicago, where I live, on my 50th birthday. My son got a note to her that it was my birthday, and she dedicated Vienna to me - what I consider her best song. After the show, we ran into Linda and her band at a nearby eaterie and I thanked her personally. Linda truly is down-to-earth and simply but, nice. She proves that fame and becoming an obnoxious and self-centered diva don't have to go hand-in-hand. What a voice! What a lady! Yeah! Linda.
I still remember her on Star Search when I was only 12 years old. She is, indeed a superb talent! only few filipino knows her, but I'm happy to know someone like Linda Eder. I love you Linda from the Philippines!
She is incredible; I've seen her two times and was supposed to see her again tonight in south jersey. Luckily, she decided to cancel the show due to the snow storm but she was gracious enough to reschedule the concert sometime in January.
Just amazing.. She has impeccable control over her voice; she makes you want to keep listening to the rest of the song! Haha... Such an inspiring performance!
Personally, nobody could sing this song better. However, that's to be expected because the guy who wrote the music for Jekyll & Hyde, wrote the songs that Lucy sings, for Linda.
I love this song and have to say this is a decent performance. There's an amazing new musical called Witchfinder on youtube which is in a similar style to this Frank Wildhorn stuff. worth checking out if you love musicals!
Refer anyone to 2:58 onwards in this video for some real singing. Like LuigiNeg said, it takes someone who has studied this stuff to appreciate the real value of it.

BEAUTIFUL. Listen to her sing "Gold" or "Vienna"!!! Makes me cry!!!!!

Wow.
And NOT in a good way. A terrible song sung badly. Hey- I'm gonna sing as loud as I can, then repeat it over and over... but louder and a half-step up!
To me it doesn't matter WHEN she breathes. All I know is that she can HOLD notes forever with that kind of breath and with a power and strength that blows your hair off !!! Just listen to " Don't rain on my parade" , " Man of LaMancha", " Let him fly", " By myself" and " I am what I am" !!! Incredible !
It actually really does matter where you breathe... if she isn't doing correct phrasing she can really ruin the song and miss notes/not hold them/not belt them properly etc.
I dunno.. seemed like kind of a sloppy performance to me.
wildfiretgh - thanks for your comment. All I said was that it doesn't matter TO ME, as I enjoy all of Linda's interpretations. May I ask if you have seen or heard any of her music other than THIS video ? :-) As I said in an earlier comment - I also find that this one is not the best version of her singing this song ! iAurelius has a better one - search for the name and you'll find a great performance of that song with her and her ( then ) husband on the piano !
im sorry there curlin...your observations are in correct...breathing in singing is like a swing in golf or a baseball swing...you take the club back and excellerate forward. You would not stop during your downswing...and you certainly dont stop breathe before you start to sing. Singing 101.
I have always disliked Jekyll and Hyde and Frank Wildhorn in general but this song was stunning and Linda Eder is an amazing performer and very underrated.

She isn't using correct breathing, you can hear a sharp intake of breath everytime she starts a new line.

Oh shut up! If I could breathe through my bottom, and sing half as well then I would!
But hey-you like to come and criticise to make yourself look good..? Fail!!!!

im sorry there curlin...your observations are in correct...breathing in singing is like a swing in golf or a baseball swing...you take the club back and excellerate forward. You would not stop during your downswing...and you certainly dont stop breathe before you start to sing. Singing 101.

Maybe THIS wasn't the greatest version ! There is a better one on YouTube by iAurelius !
Maybe she just had a bad day! She's known for usually being dead on !!
