  • "... a thing."

    My heart just broke.

  • I'm not kidding... 0_0

  • At the part where it sounds like the chorus to "A Brand New Day", if you listen very carefully, then you can hear Penny saying ' I'm not dead.' :O

  • @stunningwife you be trolling...

  • 01:30 Howard :D

  • is dr. horrible technically a tragic hero? because he's a villain....

but he's still the protagonist. ahh! i want to use him as an example. i know that he atleats shares many characteristics that tragic heroes have.

  • @crazitaco deep down, he's a good guy and in all technicality, the hero. He thinks that being a villain is the only way to make the world a better place. He's a villain to better the world. So, yeah, he's a tragic hero.

  • I remember smiling when I found out Badhorse was actually a real horse

  • By the way, yes, NPH is gay. He and his partner recently adopted a child.

  • @RoChuFangirlaru Who cares whether he's gay or straight or gets his jollies from purple elephants. It's a movie and a character he portrays.

  • This song always gives me chills. I was so sad at the end. I hoped it was a longer movie but it was darn good. Really hope a sequel is on its way soon. I want The Avengers to come out already just because of this movie xD.

  • i cried the first time i saw this movie. and the second. and third. fourth. fifth. sixth. seventh. and im not afraid to admit i cried the eighth time too! and every time after that....

  • I love Dr. Horrible~!

  • it's weird that i can feel i kind of sympathy with dr. horrible but i have been in a less fatal version of this story myself.

  • Did anyone else notice the two tones of NPH's singing? It sounds soft and almost like crying for most of the first two verses, and then at "Arise and sing...", "And I am fine" and the last verse (until "a thing") it becomes evil and powerful. Noticed the same thing on parts of "My Freeze Ray" especially...

  • @DoctorQuestionMark It's written that way- listen to the singing emotion and watch the characters body language- in the post victory heist he is half heartedly directing Moist and others in the bank (still grieving). When he dons the red he's much more assertive- more powerful and confident- then they cut to his uncostumed blog clip solemly saying "a thing". Showing he's still inside, sad and possibly broken.

  • wwhy? gulb.

  • I love this movie, so much.

  • what movie is this?

  • @12345wery WAT the titles in the name of the video

  • @RKGtrio FUCK YOU god im not god like you people

  • To make the whole world Neil.

  • this broke my heart D-:

  • the ending always makes me so sad! It was so unexpected to have such a silly, funny story and then a someone-dies-ending. Fingers crossed there's going to be a sequel....

  • @FlattsFan183 There has been talk, but with Joss Whedon directing the Avengers and everything...it may be a while.

  • @brch2 thank because i didnt know if it happened or not but now i do lets pray for number 2

  • @brch2 thank you for helping me understand the end more (:

  • Is it me, or does NPH make a really good mad scientist? Or he is just really good at all acting/singing positions.

  • @smellygreenpants He's just a great all-around actor. I'm glad he's starting to get bigger roles now because he's just so good; but so under-rated

  • I love this song, so powerful but so sad. If I ever rule the world, totally going to use the background music.

  • Woops forgot to add time to that 2:20

  • "TO make the whole world NEAL!" XD (Pun intended(

  • "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, but lose his own soul?"

    Mark 8:36

  • @vjm3 The whole world. It's right there in the quote. Sounds like a fair trade to me...

  • @vjm3 Ultimate Nirvana and Pleasure I think

  • "To make the whole world Neil"

  • Dr. Horrible needs to be a video game.

  • The world I wanted at my feet:

    That he's committed the assassination?

Or Penny, dead at his feet?

In Laundry Day, he does call Penny his world, so...

    :( Poor Dr. Horrible

  • @euterpemuseful The answer: both. Nothing in this movie is simple.

  • @euterpemuseful

There are many bits that link up between songs in this.

Example 1: In Penny's Song she says "So head up Billy buddy", in Slipping when he is trying to convince himself to go ahead and kill Captain Hammer he says "head up Billy buddy".

Example 2: Each time he 'loses' Penny, (Captain Hammer+death) the songs that are then immediately sung have similarities in melody and instrumentation. As well as his evil side becoming more dominant.

And that is why it's so good. (:

  • This song makes me want to cry. When they make a sequel, they better give Billy the happy ending he deserves!

  • @crystalfairy912 With Joss Whedon, there are rarely, if ever happy endings, usually only bittersweet ones at best.

  • @brch2 Yeah. That's what I get for growing up on Disney. I can't stand seeing Billy in pain though! No fan can! :'(

  • @crystalfairy912 Billy wanted to be a Supervillain. He got what he wanted. Moral of the story is to be careful what you wish for. Well. One of the morals :)

  • Am I the only one noticing how the "everything you ever" line keeps getting quieter as it's repeated? Sounds like the part of Billy that was a good person slipping away, as represented by the voice of Penny in his mind fading away to nothingness, as he becomes the supervillain he always wanted to be...

  • The first time I saw it, I thought his saying he won't feel a thing was blatant denial of the pain he feels over losing Penny. Now I think it can also be that he feels nothing from getting everything he ever wanted. No satisfaction, since he wanted to chamge the world FOR HER and she's not in it anymore. ;_;

  • This show if they make a sequal can only end one way. Horrible starts to change the world just like he inteded but he does it by helping the homless just like penny did.

  • How is it possible that one song can turn me on make me laugh and make me cry in 2 and half minutes?

  • you are all fools the ending is as black and white as it could be JESUS STFU!

  • @SandyCohenful So human nature is black and white? People shouldn't be able to discuss their interpretation of a complex character's motivations? In case you haven't noticed, there's no such thing as "black and white" when it comes to dealing with humans' minds. Even if there somehow was, the ending here is pretty damn far from it. Digging deeper into a character isn't "foolish" - unless, of course, you would care to vow us with your in-depth, insightful analysis that comes so naturally to you?

  • to. When Penny dies, he doesn't necessarily became a super-villain. He becomes empty inside. He hates this emptiness, and he blames the World for it, so he strikes back against the world as a whole as Dr. Horrible. But it won't fulfill him. Becoming super Horrible won't bring Penny back, or make him not empty anymore, and he knows that, so he remains empty, and he won't feel, A Thing.

  • @sawyerscott52 Stupid 500 character limit.

  • lies." When she died, there was no light in the world anymore. It became dark, evil, Horrible. See what I did there? Hardy-har-har. When Penny died, the small part of Billy that hadn't given up to the awfulness in the world died, and Horrible took full control. He became, in its entirety, evil, because she was gone. He got the world he wanted, sure, but at what cost? The cost of the love of his life. And since he wanted to change the world for her, even EVIL didn't have the meaning that it used

  • always picks Penny. He is too focused on the evil, and in the end he realizes that he should have focused on Penny instead of trying to change the world for her through destruction and murder. But when Penny died, he didn't care anymore. "I won't feel a thing." Sums up the whole show. Horrible only cared about Penny, she was the one thing he TRULY cared about. When she died, he didn't care about anything, and it made the world seem even darker. She was always the light amongst the "filth and

  • a famous hero. Dr. Horrible wanted to save the world for everybody, but especially Penny, whom he cared about most of all. I know, that clause ended with a preposition, get over it. When Penny died, he got what he wanted; the fame, the high status, the ability to finally change the world. But he wanted to change it for people like Penny. And also, she was the only thing anchoring him. She was the only thing he cared about. Throughout the show, he has chances to choose between Evil and Penny, and

  • In 42 minutes, they created one of the greatest stories ever. Dr. Horrible wanted to fix the world, he saw it as falling apart, and he deemed himself able to fix it. He also saw Captain Hammer as being counterintuitive, not a real hero at all, but as someone who is stopping the efforts of people like Horrible who are trying to fix the world. Captain Hammer is focusing on small stuff. I think Horrible, in My Eyes, says something about how Hammer ignores the darkness in the world, too busy being

  • penny noooooooooooooooooooo

  • Note the fact that his coat is now red with the blood of the dead

    =(

  • γιατί έκανε την σκοτώσει?

  • :( The defeated expression Billy has on his face at the end just hurts my heart....

  • @123PokeChamp456 no one deserves to die for being "boring"

  • I always saw this ending as the turning point for Dr. Horrible. Every good movie villian has had something horrible happen to them in the past that made them the way they are, and I always thought this was that point for Dr. Horrible.

  • 2:00... Anyone else think that looks like Ziggy Stardust???

  • @RoseOfPhantom Totally...he's supposed to, actually. His name is Dead Bowie, and according to some behind-the-scenes thing I saw (it's on the DVD, and possibly here on YouTube), he's the ghost of David Bowie who was killed in 1980 and replaced by an impostor. Or something. It's been a while since I saw it. :-)

  • @GooGooGajoob67 Yeah this was my first time noticing it and I never watch the credits so afterwards when I found out who he was supposed to be I felt kind of dumb.

  • "Here lies everything, the world I wanted at my feet."

    Absolutely the perfect line.

  • That ending still chokes me, no matter how many times I watch this show!

    T_T

  • Bad horse is awesome though. I mean, despite the whinny comment at the very beginning, I was convinced this was a person going by the name bad horse.

  • Reminds me of Sweeney Todd

  • I thought Felicia Day's death scene could have been a lot better.

  • Dr horrible's new costume reminds me of dr robotnik/eggman.

  • @SrZippypants Holy crap it does!

  • 2nd highest comment, quality insight into the underlying tones of this film. Highest comment, Bad horze ez a reel horze, a dah.

  • @generalpanda58

    Still rings true.

  • Note a twisted, creepier version of "Brand New Day" mixed in during the party at the end.

  • This movie is brilliant when penny dies you feel like something happened you feel emotion for the characters which is rare in movies now a days best part is that you feel so bad you dont even care htat theres a fucking horse as the top villian youre just so sad

  • Joss did a really good job at making the music scary. At times i think it sounds like Pirates of the Caribbean. Anyway, Love this movie (:

  • @lizeboo3 Jed, Joss's musical-er brother composed the music for this. Says so in the credits

  • I cried when I first watched this...

  • @MagicInSeborga your not alone *hugs*

  • Also, the goggles (which previously he never wore over his eyes) may also symbolise his blindness to what he truly wanted. "Everything you ever" - Penny. He thought he wanted Power, and the goggles - his supervillain persona - blinded him to all else, and at the end he only sees "through the goggles"

  • Red, Gloved Dr. Horrible is what he finally becomes. A symbol of power and a true supervillain. Meanwhile, Billy, the good inside of him slowly dies following the final loss of Penny. In short, at the end he finally becomes Dr. Horrible. "The nightmare is real"

  • And i wont feel.....a thing, so sad :(

  • gives me chills... every time!

  • I have a PhD in Horribleness

  • when i saw this movie for the first time, i literally thought that the credits were still part of the movie and that it wasn't over yet, and then i nearly cried :'( how sad/awesome is this movie?

  • world at my feet. double meaning. get it?

  • Comment removed

  • This song is one of the best. You can easily tell how he is feeling the whole time. Its "YES! OH WAIT NO!!!!!!" Then you can tell how nothing is holding him back from being evil, now he will be even more evil that Penny is dead because of how unfair the world is. But deep down, he is hurt, afraid and alone.

  • Bad horse xD First time I watched the movie, I never thought bad horse was actually a horse!

  • Oh, by the way guys, there's a good chance all of this last part was in his head. When it cuts to his last two words at the end, all the Evil League Stuff was just him imagining it.

  • @SamEighteen Maybe. But then, where does it end? You could easily say that all that Penny dying stuff was just him imagining it. A fantasy spiraled out of control or something. Him imagining how it would go, and believeing that it could go horribly, horribly wrong. But that's kind of a cheat, isn't it? The tragic fall of Dr. Horrible from aspiring villain, to truly evil villain, due to the death of Penny destroying his humanity is so much more dynamic. Even though I HATE Penny dying.

  • @Dagenspear That's true, but I think it would be Penny's death that would send him into his delusions, if it was what actually happened. Not saying I think that's what happened, but I just like how Whedon threw that last part in there to open up the question of whether the ending montage really happened.

  • @SamEighteen The ending did happen. The last part with Billy is to show the switch in which personality is dominant. At first, Billy was the dominant personality, and Dr. Horrible was repressed, mainly because there was something that kept Billy holding onto his humanity and chance at good... Penny. But, when Penny died, Billy lost his reason for holding on, allowing Dr. Horrible to come out as the dominant personality. The character on webcam at any given time was the repressed personality.

  • @brch2 So wait, at the end, that was Billy on the webcam still holding on to whatever part of humanity was left? And the dominant personality was Dr. Horrible?

  • @weston302 That's the way I saw it. But the whole thing harkened back to the 'pie' explanation. He was like a pie... the top (outside) layer, the filling, and another layer that was the same as the outside layer. When his top layer (Billy) was stripped away, the middle layer (Horrible) was exposed fully, but under that was the third layer (Billy again, just this time a more depressed Billy who had lost touch with reality, in a way, and was still covered by the middle layer).

  • @brch2 That all seems to make the most sense...

  • @brch2 Oh my fucking god. HOW HAVE I NEVER MADE THAT CONNECTION?!!?!!

  • @brch2 Exactly. Hence the lyrics in 'On the Rise', where he says "The dark is everywhere and Penny doesn't seem to care that soon the dark in me is all that will remain."

I have been in Dr. Horrible's boots before, with similar feelings, and it sucks :(

  • @brch2 Not only that, but what someone else told me to explain it also makes sense: 3 layers... kind of like a pie. Billy on the outside, Dr. Horrible on the inside, and Billy even further in.

  • @SamEighteen I would say that may be a possibility but Dr. Horrible underwent a costume change to symbolize his anger due to the death of Penny (red = anger) and there's nothing to suggest that the character is schizophrenic so I don't think his character would become angry and depressed in a day dream. If he did they certainly wouldn't end the film that way because it's not a strong ending and it sort of makes everything that happened in the film pointless.

  • Reminds me soo much of Sweeny Todd singing XD

  • Me at the ending: "*literally crying* THATS NOT THE END. HE WOULDN'T DO THAT. HE'S NOT EVIL...NO..."

  • 1:45 - 2:03

    that should be the theme

  • @crownedkitty67 It IS the theme. At the beginning of every act, a lesser version of this plays briefly.

  • The ending with him just sitting there is ao epic. -3

  • My lil' bro pointed out that the Death Ray shards are missing from Penny when he's carrying her off. LOL

  • 1:30 to end: favorite part

  • starting at 1:10 you hear a chick(penny) singing (im not dead) if you listen closley

  • @TheCodymunk111 No, she's saying "Everything you ever". She's dead. Billy's a genius. He wouldn't think she died when she didn't, and the newpapers wouldn't say she was dead if she wasn't.

  • @TheCodymunk111 No, she's saying "Everything you ever". Both Dr. Horrible and and medics know she's dead, and the newspapers report it too. If she lived they'd want to publish it so Dr. Horrible wouldn't be seen as a competent villain. She's dead.

  • @TheCodymunk111 Bullshit.

  • @edenfire Listen closley, U'll hear it unless your heads in your ass.

  • @TheCodymunk111 I did listen. There was nothing more than music playing at 1:10.

  • @edenfire well there is. and dh2 is supposed to have penny in it.

  • @TheCodymunk111 I think it's just the girl reporter sniffling - that's all I can hear.

  • @TheCodymunk111 think you imagined it

  • @Zitrants Because making your love undead solves all your problems! Also time fuckery is not an option, unless you like causing anamolys that might destroy the universe... Also it's just stupid.

  • love the new outfit red brings out his dark side

  • I want a second part.

  • To make the whole world Neiiiiiiil (Patrick Harris's)

  • Now the night "mare" is real :P Ahaha horse pun...

  • i crapped my pants at the cowboys in the doorway

  • The third dislike is bad horse for giving him this little of screen time.

  • Dude... I understand... he has a new suit. Which is red. Like penny's hair.

  • @darkelfpoet Whoa. Whoa.... Now I have to go cry even more.

  • @darkelfpoet Actually.

The red suit and black gloves are to represent he is.. well, 'stained with blood' as in, he murdered you know.

it's all symbolism. I'm sure someone can explain better.

  • love that bad horse is an actual fucking horse.

  • @mmastudyer he's not an actual horse, no horse could ever be that awesome, or bad.

  • @mmastudyer The thouroghbred of sin.

  • He red-suited up

  • :'(

Poor Dr Horrible, he lost his love but got his fame and respect talk about sacrafice!!!

I like his new costume though "Now the nightmare's real....and I won't feel a thing"

  • I watched this movie so many times, I really connected to it at the end.

I've got everything I want, my dream job. I'm still in college, I live in California in a great house. But I lost my wife in the process. I did not notice what I was going to lose till it was to late and she was too far out of my reach to get back. Now I'm stuck wanting to throw it all away just to get her back. This movie made my heart beat again, but I still miss my "Penny."

  • Why is David Bowie in the League of Evil?

  • @darksapphire08 that's not the real David bowie, its Dead bowie he is the true bowie and has the power of persuasion

  • How many people here get that the very ending means that everything with killing Penny and beating Captain Hammer was in was just his imagination?

  • @kdfljgfldghldfgshdfl We won't know until there's a sequel. If there will be...

  • @kdfljgfldghldfgshdfl i disagree, i think that he just lost the will to go on, and that in front of his computer is, like in the beginning the one place that he can express his true feelings...dead.

  • @Mewexoy Alright, I can see that. But I think that the fact that it's such a quick thing at the very last second (literally) of the movie, I don't think they would have made it that short.

Also, when it switches, he's talking about the future ("I won't feel a thing.") so I think it's him talking about his plans like he usually does.

  • @kdfljgfldghldfgshdfl Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. the ending, without his suit and gloves is to show that this is not what he wanted. He doesn't want to be a super villain if he can't have penny as well. when penny died physically, he died emotionally and now his life is empty. that is what it shows. Pwnd.

  • @iisseth11 @iisseth11 Do you have any proof that that's what it means, or are you just guessing (In which case, you have no room to say that I'm wrong.

The ending is vague because it wants us to think about what it means, not be absolutely sure that what we think is absolutely, unquestionably right, and that every one else is, and I quote, "Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong."

  • He feels nothing inside. He is now a true super villain and he intends to make the world feel what he feels. Cry for the dead but their suffering is done. Pity the living because Dr Horrible does not.

  • the 3rd dislike..is the hammer which is really...

  • i cry when i hear this song. It hurts, but I don't know why. I got in trouble for staring into space in class. The truth is, I was thinking about this. For some reason, it boggles my mind.

  • I wonder, and I the only one who greatly pity's Dr.horrible's fate, penny may have been only one to physically die,but Dr.horrible died inside and is now a shell of a man,not evil or good, just numb,so very, very numb,I think penny's fate was better than Dr.horrible's,death is better than living without a soul

  • Thanks, man/woman!

  • one of the best move!

  • I want to know who the evil girl is at 1:59!

  • @christcruce Her name is Liz Vassey, she's been in quite a few TV shows in her career

  • Comment removed

  • 3 dislikes. Captain Hammer, his therapist, and bad horse (because he's just that bad)

  • Wow. I drew a random picture that looks exactly like this scene and I didn't even realize that until I looked at it again while listening to this song. OuO

  • I'm doing this for an amateur theatre company in North East Victoria (Australia.)

    I'm playing Moist.

  • man, this song is so fantastic.

  • Joss Whedon.

    I hate you so much.

I doubt you feel ANY remorse when killing off characters.

  • @starcre8erify they NEED to bring her back

  • Love the music from 1:29 till 2:03. I also like the music from 0:00 till 1:28 and 2:04 till 2:35 though

  • @thejellyfisha I can't be the only one who thinks that is some of the creepiest hauntiest music he's ever heard.

  • i love the whole psychology of this whole movie and what he goes through

  • Ahhh... Bad horse. Your my hero.

  • 1:26 :D love that part

  • *sighs sadly* Why, Neil? Why do you have to be gay? Your poor fangirls, Neil! Including myself.

  • @Shadowstarrulesall lol yeah sucks

  • @XOkamiAmaterasu He is david bowie. Check the wiki page on Doctor Horrible

  • @Fenumenepa He's Dead Bowie to be more specific.

  • and has anyone noticed the one guy kinda looks like david bowie?

  • @XOkamiAmaterasu It's Jed Whedon as the supervillain 'Dead Bowie' :)

  • @Spacemushroomsify Oh thank you

  • love the red and black and when I first saw the movie I didnt think bad horse was literaly a horse lol i thought it was a clever names... those poor members must have quite the mess after meetings

  • she has nice legs... *resumes singing along*
