@mimesis6mime I like a wide array of poets. I'll just name a few: Wallace Stevens, Rosmarie Waldrop, E.E. Cummings, Basho, Vicente Aleixandre, Keats, T.S. Eliot, Paul Celan, Rilke, Gennady Aygi, Theodore Enslin, William Bronk, Tomas Tranströmer, Tomaž Šalamun, Pedro Salinas, and the list goes on.
@mimesis6mime Who I DON'T think are very good? Ginsburg (though he was probably the best from his circle), Ferlinghetti (awful poet), Gary Snyder, Gregory Corso, et al. The only "Beat" poet that I like, and it's not so much about his poetry but because he lived that lifestyle in such an authentic way was Bob Kaufman. The rest of them are hacks looking for fame.
The whole time I was waiting for a punchline ...... something along the lines of "not a flaw in the grass, but then, alas a flaw make apparent himself, a flaw, the only flaw, among the flawless bearded mountain dew, a man, a republican named william buckley"
I waited, but the punchline never came. Still I wait, in a flawed computer chair, under the canopy of chinese drywall.....
my advice would be to stay off the hard stuff and explore biomedical science,
oh and register each entity as they appear tree, grass, water, roof and brow, that's what ore was all about- ajayi orelaja (in an attempt of martial aid 1968-74)
i cannot believe Burroughs wanted so badly to make love to ginsberg, i mean YUCK ! ... i thought he liked cute young boys...by the way this poetry sucks really really bad, makes Jim Morrison look like Robert Frost. F*in insufferable and dated beyond words, what a fat lie/hype the Beats really were...except for Burroughs, i mean "HOWL" is even worse, Naked Lunch is worth holding onto but the rest...i mean cmon!
Ginsburg was also an original member and founder of the Man Boy Love Association.
Not too cool.

That's the easiest thing to do. Impossible to judge objectively. Ginsberg is a charlatan.

@Believerification Geez, he's so pleased with himself---it's positively infantile.

One of my favorite poems ever. Ginsburg at his height.

Ginsburg sucked, as did most of the Beats. They were mainly interested in fame not quality.

@IzzyIsou Just curious what kind of poetry do you like?

I always find Ginsberg's poetry works better when recited by him.

William Buckley seemed uncomfortable. I don't get it. I thought the poem was beautiful.
