I'm almost certain the guy EV trained it in SpD. The reason raticate struggled against it is because of the -1 ATK from arcanine's intimidate, + after 1 hit he had a reflect up. If he was max special bulky those events make a lot of sense.

According to the damage calcs a standard dual screen set (which actually puts EVs into Def and spD but not HP) will take 32-39% from raticate before the guts boost, if raticate is at -1 and uses a 140 power normal move (aka facade w/ burn). So, the standard smogon screen set is explained perfectly here with ~50% damage on a -1 guts-boosted facade. That death fodder arcanine intimidate really screwed haydunn; without it the 2HKO would have been easy.

Speaking of retarded teams, one of my friends and I decided to duke it out Pokémon Stadium 2-style, and I let him pick a team of six legendaries (the bird and dog trios) while I chose only retarded pokémon (Magikarp, Zubat, Slowpoke, Farfetch'd, Tentacool and an Oddish or some shit). Needless to say, I defeated him (farfetch'd got a crit +2 steel wing on Articuno, OHKOing it :D). Magikarp practically beat Entei on its own. And I used Splash two turns in a row.

A crocune set by itself could tear through your entire team unless oddish (probably vileplume?) was physical EV'd for some reason. Standard tbolt + heat wave zapdos set would hit your entire team for super effective damage (and STAB against 5 of them...), and is faster! Your friend must be seriously terrible ^_^.

@TheMelnTeam Actually, we were only using stock pokémon, and EVs did not yet exist at the time (there was another system, but you can use Bulbapedia on your own :P ). It was generation 2, so those movesets wouldn't really apply either...And yes, I'll admit that Zapdos was a pain in the ass, but after one missed Thunder, Zubat brought hell with Confuse ray and Toxic.
