They did a good job paralleling the live action with memorable events in the anime, in fact I remember one good video here that shows the anime clip and then the movie clip clearly demonstrating this. The people who say it sucks are the idiots who wanted it to be nothing but DBZ jumping from fight scene to fight scene with no story at all. Instead you got the story that some people didn't notice as well when watching the anime/reading the manga. I for one think it stuck to the main plot well.
You also need to learn to listen to the movie you are watching and pay attention to what is actually going on. In the anime and manga Goku was very dumb about what a "girl" was. He was very innocent and childish in the ways he found out from Bulma what a girl was. In fact until he told Bulma his age she thought he was just a lil kid of about 7 or 8. The reason James Marsters said it's more of the "grown up" Goku is he is a teen, he is interested in girls, and he quickly develops a relationship.
I love watching all these "review" videos about Dragonball Evolution who whine that "this isn't DragonballZ! I thought DBZ came first cause I'm a freaking retard!" Also when you start talking about the "fanboys" you need to first get some knowledge about the series you're bashing. Good thing I only saw this movie online. My only reason to see it, was just to see how bad it is. I haven't seen all of the episodes, but was good while it lasted. I love Hamasaki.
Compared with the Star Trek remake and this movie, Star Trek was more to the fan-boy satisfaction. Most fans can accept some changes, but not when just retool into something that it is not.
The plot is so stupid that you can't help but find it entertaining. For example, there is a part where Goku, Bulma, and Master Roshi are riding in a jeep through the desert and crash into a large crater dug in the ground. They end up staying in there all night long. In the morning Yamcha came buy and told them that had a ladder and would help them out if they gave him Bulma's dyma-caps. Then Goku and Roshi jump out of the hole and take to ladder from Yamcha to get out.
If they could have jumped out all of that time, why did they stay in there all night long? It is just so dumb that it is just fun to see how bad it is.
i think the story would have been better if they didnt just try to remake the animie. they should have done what the cartoon movies had done, made a new villin and plot line. Also it should have started somewhere when goku was already a super saiyan.

if DB Kai is really going to remade, based on the manga, especially with no fillers, then I'll give it a try. But what from I see is that it's only remastered. And indeed there are still some fillers.
I stopped watching the anime after Freeza, because Toei really messed it up with fillers. The drawing is ok of the anime except during the Cell saga, the drawing was aweful. Still nothing beats the hand drawing of Akira Toriyama.

Why is it based in New York? The actuall setting of the anime was in a futuristic enviroment.

I saw this movie. The last thing wrong with this film is that it's unrecognisable. It's not a good movie regardless of its attachments to dragon ball. The characters are completely one dimensional. Piccolo as the villain in this movie sucks. Worst villain ever. Barely gets any screen time. When he does get screen time he has nothing meaningful to say AT ALL! Actually there is no Dragon Ball "Z". The manga starts with Songoku at 14 y. old and ends with Songoku leaving the earth flying to the Kami-Sama's (God) Palace to train Uub. This whole saga is called Dragon Ball without the "Z" in the manga, those books that occured way before the anime.
The lame anime brought up the "Z" to it becouse they tought it was nessesary to divide the period of young Songoku with the adult Songoku. In the true heart and mind of the saga it is just called Dragon Ball.
I dont think its the fan boys like you say who make the success of a film like this one because they are simply not enough, that is why these kinds of adaptations are made by the studios for the general public, the people who went to see Independence Day. First of all because theyre the mass and secondly because they enjoy to get served the same old ball shit over again without any originality or audacity it reassures them, they get their superficial entertainment and go home.

I love ALL the Dragonball Anime Series BUT with the movie coming out, I don't think it will be where it should be graphic wise because they won't do the power ups and power balls and all that. In Japan, Dragonball Z is regarded as a T rated show, almost M rated because of much of the foul language, nudity, and gorific violence there was.
Americanized DBZ and the Japanese original are completely different things. Almost like difference between the original Yogi Bear Cartoon and the one animated by the creators of Ren and Stimpy. Completely different.

You're absolutely right, US DBZ and the Japanese are totally different. In the US version they added stupid cheesy jokes in the lines, dubbed it badly and censored it.
I just saw a scene of future Trunks appearing for the first time. They were talking about root beer and pink shirts! WTF is that? Not to mention the line "send him to the next dimenson" OMG!
I consider the comic book of Akira Toriyama as the only original of DB. Toei made the anime over the top and they raped it by making DB GT.

Well they are considering on making a new Dragonball remake called Dragonball Kai which is said to be completely based on the Manga.
You might want to consider reading into that. But I swear I saw filler in the first episode. Or at least something I didn't see in the manga.

if DB Kai is really going to remade, based on the manga, especially with no fillers, then I'll give it a try. But what from I see is that it's only remastered. And indeed there are still some fillers.
I stopped watching the anime after Freeza, because Toei really messed it up with fillers. The drawing is ok of the anime except during the Cell saga, the drawing was aweful. Still nothing beats the hand drawing of Akira Toriyama.

The directors/people who chose to make a movie on Dragon Ball are to blame. If it's too much to relate it the actual anime, the don't do it, don't make the movie on DB.
Goku should have a tail because he is an "alien", it's been a huge subject in the anime about the fact that he is an alien and bullets can't hurt him, etc.
Why is it based in New York? The actuall setting of the anime was in a futuristic enviroment.
There are many more valid factors...but little character counts remaining:)

I saw this movie. The last thing wrong with this film is that it's unrecognisable. It's not a good movie regardless of its attachments to dragon ball. The characters are completely one dimensional. Piccolo as the villain in this movie sucks. Worst villain ever. Barely gets any screen time. When he does get screen time he has nothing meaningful to say AT ALL! No character gets any development either. The story is cookie cutter high school boy gets picked on saves world gets girl. It's crap!

Actually there is no Dragon Ball "Z". The manga starts with Songoku at 14 y. old and ends with Songoku leaving the earth flying to the Kami-Sama's (God) Palace to train Uub. This whole saga is called Dragon Ball without the "Z" in the manga, those books that occured way before the anime.
The lame anime brought up the "Z" to it becouse they tought it was nessesary to divide the period of young Songoku with the adult Songoku. In the true heart and mind of the saga it is just called Dragon Ball.

I love ALL the Dragonball Anime Series BUT with the movie coming out, I don't think it will be where it should be graphic wise because they won't do the power ups and power balls and all that. I was excited at first BUT after watching the trailer again I kinda got upset. I will probably wait till it comes on DVD because for Dragonball any type I want the ACTION and "glowness" f the powers of each character. i think it s a waste of money and it needs to ne redone.
