  • Thank you. I am an NJROTC cadet and I needed a good tutorial, thank you so much! My Big area five inspection is tomorrow and I'm sure that this is what lets me pass.

  • Thank you So much it helped alot are you in the Civil Air Patrol or ROTC?

  • can i get that shine with out heat

  • how do you stop flaking thats not on the bend

  • Our drill sergeant felt that it was a little pussified. Still not sure whether it shows diligence or ignorance.

  • what is your 3rd general order? oooo

  • @kandem360

Ignore all the haters, your vid is really helpful, im joining the UK Royal Marines and we were all told to have our boots bulled by the morning for inspection and all 50 of us in the first week were crowded round my laptop watching this vid and all except 4 or 5 of us passed the inspection. Really really helpful for alot of lads )

  • @nickthenife1 awesome!!! thanks for watching it. That is the exact reason i put this up.

  • @kandem360

soz I posted that so much.. it said it wouldn't post it because there was an error so I kept pressing it infuriatingly and then I look at your reply and this happens... soz but yea. good job!

  • its hopeless ive tried soo many times times and cant get a nice shine the polish just makes the boot less shiny and makes me start over again

  • This is how it's done!

The only thing I'd say to viewers is about the amount of polish, as you're doing the entire boot it makes sense to put lots on the cloth because you need to cover a full boot, but if you are just bulling a toecap etc then you only need a teeeenyweeeny amount of polish on the cloth.

I'm tired of all these videos that insist you need to set your boots on fire on an hourly basis to get a half decent shine out of them!

  • They are soooo shiny !! I can't wait to make my as shiny :D

  • r u cap

  • @kandem360 He means Civil Air Patrol. It's like Cadets in the States.

  • I am an Army Jrotc cadet. I just got my boots and beret for rifle team. I wore them and My Sergeant Major said they needed to be shined a lot more. Just so I have it straight you should put hot water on the cloth, then wipe it on the boot in small circles. And continue around the boot?

  • THNXX I HAVE THE SHINIEST BOOTS IN CADETS NOW!!!!

  • THIMBBDDSS UPP TO THISS VIDEO INDEEEDDD

  • @JohnAP2 hey, np. Most of the viewers are either in cadets, or in some military somewhere...I only ever put it up because i got tired of showing people how to do it. I haven't done another person's boots since.

  • @kandem360 Thanks alot for the video, but I find it rather more effective to wet the whole piece of cloth with water, though. The shine worked up pretty damn well thanks to you.

  • Is there any bigger waste of time? Well, maybe video games but at least they are fun!

  • @JohnAP2 almost 111 000 view for a boot shining vid.....I don't think it's a waste of time for the people who require help on having good boots.

  • @JohnAP2 its not a waste of time when your a marine cadets and your trying to teach your fellow cadets how to polish there boots !!

  • Thanks dude.

  • Best regards from Poland my friend. I watch this movie many times. Very helpful, i polished my not military shoes. Just normal shoes made from black leather. Now they look cool i more expensive :D I need them because i go to the wedding. Its good to have shiny shoes.Thet look more elegant. Thanks one more time from Poland.

  • Really helpful video. I've just started spit shining at bmq and I'd say my method is like yours, except for using hot water instead I'll try that. Thanks for the video.

  • @jns2200 Where is your BMQ? St. Jean?

  • i use this method and have used lots of others. with every method i use the polish starts to come off/peel at the edge. can you give me any ways of preventing this please.

  • this is a terrible way to polish

  • @randomboredification It looks like it is. I mean, those boots aren't very good at all. How 'bout you put a video up on your blank page, and show me something about polishing boots.

  • seee i always think ma boots are really good, then i see boots like yours and i spend houres doing one boot and i dosent get any better!!!!!!

  • In the beginning of the video, I noticed that the polish in the container was shining. Was it wet before you started applying it onto the boot?

  • now did you melt the polish first or anything

  • Very helpful thank you, a lot of people won't be getting jacked up thanks to you ;)

  • i just breathe on it the whole time and dont use nearly as much polish

  • What are some good comfortable boots that your recommend? I am a Police Cadet and I need to buy some boots. I am looking at the Bates Durashocks or the Bates Ultra Lites also the 5.11 tactical ATAC. Which do you recommend I also need to polish them up like your boots. And how many layers do you suggest for base layer? And when you have left over water do you press with hard or light or medium pressure? When should I put my first layer of polish on my boot? Should I let my boot break in first?

  • @counkev I cannot recommend boots, as mine are issued to me, and I have no choice. Brush shine your new boots during the break in period. Keep at it. Seriously. You get a good base by brush shining over and over. To brush shine, apply polish, let it sit for about 10-20 minutes, then brush off to a sheen. After a while you can start spit shining to achieve the gloss you can count teeth in. Get used to doing it lots, as this takes practice. Good Luck.

  • @counkev So I only need to put the base shine with a Brush only once right? As ling as I keep put on new layers ? Also when there is left over water do I apply medium pressure or light pressure.?

  • @counkev lots of brush sine! do it completely many times. This builds up your base. Once will not do. If you find you are having water left on the boot, use more polish and work it in with that water. I don't use very much water at all.

  • @kandem360 Can I use cotton balls instead of a polishing rag, because it is easier in my opinion because it covers a bigger area and my fingers aren't that big. Also do you polish the crease in your boot where the boot folds when you walk? And how long is the break in period? Because my new boots have that crease where I walk but it isn't very deep also will I still need to brush shine after I put the base coats on or when the break in period is over? I don't want to spend $10 just for that.

  • @counkev dr martens. lol. ironic as it is.

  • @Deredbaron get a cotton ball or shining cloth( whatever you prefer) and put rubbing alcohol on it and apply it to the shoe to remove the shine if you mess up.

  • i need kiwi O_o

  • quick question: if you stuff up a layer, how do you remove it?

  • I think these are the best parade shoes on youtube

  • @LtHotchkiss thanks!

  • COOL SHOES!

  • What do you mean use a tooth brush to clean the welts? Is that the crease (where your boot bends when you walk) ? After you polish that area will it crack when you walk? Because that's what I hear I am new to polishing.

  • @counkev the welt is where the sole meets the boot. you cant get at it with a cloth, so a toothbrush with polish on it is best. Mud, dirt, and dust get in it, and make the boots look awful.

  • @kandem360 Okay, so after I clean it with a tooth brush before polishing. When I walk won't the polish I put on the welt get cracked and come off?

  • @counkev I have never had that happen. The only spots known to usually flake are the wrinkles in the leather just behind your polished toe. But, if done right, the flaking can be avoided.

  • this boots look like Boys' Brigade's boots

  • @Lesterishere maybe, but this 'boy' is 30, and wears size 13 boots.

  • @kandem360 hahaha ! Nice one , "old boy" young at heart

  • @Lesterishere and once before , it got burnt . LOL and the kiwi layers i applied a long long time ago , melted . alittle and i just wiped it away with a cloth , beware , its hot

  • @kandem360 btw , i used to light my boots on fire when i kiwi my boots . cant remember the procedure , but its something like this , spread a layer of kiwi , hold a lighter and light it , hold it far from the kiwi-ed part of the boots but a little heat can be felt for awhile , then apply water . something like that

  • but once before , i lit it on fire and it burnt , the kiwi layers applied long long time ago melted . and i wiped it away with a cloth and the surface wasnt even anymore and i just smooth it with kiwi

  • I heard you are sopose to use acetone the first time on your boots is that true?

  • What regiment r u in cadets or armed forces full on

  • How hot should the water be and do u have to put some in the polish

  • Thanks

  • Hey nice vid how long did it take to do your whole boots like that?

  • @ClanResf

What? How could hot water melt a leather boot?

  • sorry about all the comments but ive found something that works better than a kiwi cloth its called a cotton woll pad from sainsburys.

Basically a make up remover and it works wonders

  • @Superrobot5397 just normal cottonballs are great as well.

  • @kandem360 ive tried them aswell and work just as good but at times soak up to much water and hard to get just the right amout.

  • @ClanResf my boots look drastically melted, eh?

  • but the salt and acids that are in saliva break down the polish as needed

  • I don't use hot water, I use saliva. Like, I dip the cloth into the polish and then lick the polish and then start doing the circles on my boot. My siblings have all done it when they were in air cadets as well, and they never turned out white. :/ Actually, they were always really shiny. So, I dunno. I'm going to try the hot water and see which is better!

Also, if you keep adding up layers of polish, does it cover up scratches? Thanks!

  • @BayumGirl123 saliva is generally salty, or can contain salt, so I dont 'spit' shine mine anymore. I did as a cadet in my first year. yes they were shiny, but I like the hot water waaaaaay better. Layers of polish will fill scratches, however, gouges should be hot spoon'd.

  • hi thanks for posting this it has helped me alot i use this method all the time and get the best marks for my boots thanks

  • why is parade glos no good

  • @MrAdam1355 in my opinion parade gloss is better for the best shine as normal kiwi for me is only good for building up the first few layers and parade gloss to get the best shine. i just use parade gloss all the time.

  • @Superrobot5397 parade gloss is OK, but it just gives a top layer shine, not a deep lusterous polish that the normal stuff gives. By the way....thanks for checking this vid out.

  • @kandem360 its give a pretty good and deep shine with mine but i think it depends on the amount of effort you put into polishing your boots because when i first started i polished for ages but like i couldnt be bothered and didnt get a shine now i do and get a really good shine and think this method and the amount of effort that you put in is the main thing.

  • @Superrobot5397 if it's what you like, then keep using it. I don't recommend it.

  • HEY. A professional using new boots (: My boots as shiny as yours now!! Stupid friend told me to burn my cake of polish... NEVER DO THAT. IT'S AS HARD AS ROCK. I bought a new cake and stripped my boots. They look beautiful now.

Btw. I use new boots as well... I want to try old boots... Are they any good other than that awesome bang?

  • How do you bild it u to be like this I mean fm a new boot to a smooth bulling service? I have got some Beeswax but as of yet I am a bit unsure of how to use it.

  • da shine is awsome helped alot

  • thank you,

    Semper Vigilans

  • nice boots :)

  • Thank You! Need these by Saturday haha

    Canadian and Proud!

  • thx now i have the best boots in my regiment

  • Very helpful thank you :)

  • Are these cadet boots?

  • @ShadowDeathBl1tz Not really. These are Canadian Forces Parade Boots. I am not sure if our Cadets have the same ones or not. It is possible.

  • @kandem360 There the same

  • @ShadowDeathBl1tz these look the same as army cadet boots. speaking of which, you know you need to shine them when dust is building up. and i have annual review this weekened

  • @lolzman228 wow, that's odd - my annual review is tomorrow lol

  • @lolzman228 I have an annual review today!

  • kiwi yeah not just our lamb goes global

  • Walmart sells Kiwi, settle for NOTHING less than Kiwi! You can still get just as good a shine with regular Kiwi black as U can with Parade gloss, never really noticed a difference myself.

  • did you melt the polish? or add hot water to it? cause it was like muddy in the tin

  • Where did you get the kiwi cloth from?

  • @skippy2107 anywhere they sell kiwi polish. I usually get it at Canex.

  • @kandem360 did you put water in the polish?

  • Do your boots crack? After the polish is on my boots, they have a big tendency to just crack.

  • @ModernDayGunSlinger It happens to me too. just polish the parts were you boots don't crease when wearing them. Put a thin layer of polish though occasionally and it will have a shine in it.

  • @ModernDayGunSlinger You need to break your boots in before you start "spit" shining. As well, flex the boot/shoe between coats of polish and rinse away any flakes before the next application.

  • @RCRelBee Okay, well, I've sorta had these boots for about 8 months now and I do flex and wipe off the flakes. But I don't know. I'm gonna try it again until I get it.

  • Thank You very much !!!

  • thank you !

  • Lol, the nine that dislike teh vids are the Lazy cadets in my division XD (RCNC, Hull quebec)

  • @kandem360 thx, i was using cold water didnt know hot was better, also didnt know that u shud melt the polish. I was looking for a better method sou Cadet uniform looked better, xant wait to try this on the weekend :)

  • To everyone asking were to get supplies: walmart has similar stuff (its nit the best but its acceptsble) or go to a shoe rrpair shop, most of the time they have a good selection.

  • Dear everyone, Lincoln Shoe Polish will kick Kiwi's ass any day.

Take my word, I've seen the light.

  • @nukenate where do you buy it? I'll do a comparrison vid. If it is better, and I can get it easy enough, I might switch. I'm open to new and better things.

  • @kandem360

Going off your boot it looks like your in the Canadian Cadet Corps. If this is true you're pretty much SOL my friend, I've only seen it in the states.

Your only hope is ebay or amazon, or if you are interested in having me send you a can give my a private message.

  • @kandem360 you can buy it online at a shop called uscalvary. but the diference between Lincoln Wax and Kiwi is pretty much in the user's preference.

  • @kandem360 w w w dot shoecaresuppliesdotcom Sunnyvale, CA USA is only for Distribution you are better off getting it ONLINE Kiwi and Lincoln are great polishes. I like the way Lincoln smells it reminds me of when I was a little guy and watched this animated older black shoeshine man shining shoes. He used Lincoln products. He was a master at the craft and I think you have skill also.

  • @nukenate It comes down to availability. Lincoln is hard to find in the Great White North. What all the kids need to remember is that you need to stick with the same polish throughout. If you start with plain kiwi, stick with plain kiwi, if you've gone with parade gloss, your stuck with parade gloss, etc. Each different brand and type of polish has different ingredients and mixing different kinds will effect the finished product.

    DON'T BURN SHINE!

  • I don't know what to do.... i have army cadets tomorrow and well i may get demoted if i dont have my shoe's shined, i dont have shoe shiner so dont know what to do, plus no time to go get some, any idea's............... anyone???

  • @MrPottyBoy

Try banana peels or any kind of cooking oil you might have handy; it's not the best, probably not even good, but some say it works.

  • wierd i have the same boots and i am in air cadets

  • @vaskam20 it's not weird.....you're in Canada. Same boots.

  • don't you ever burn the boot by the fire lighter or polish but beeswax?

why you can polish it glossy just using the polish and the water?

  • I have two pairs of those. Hate em'. A couple of my bosses have got the older models. They shine up nicer and have a cooler shape IMO. Nice boots dude.

  • I have pair of shoes that are new.

Do you really mean to tell me that my toe caps will look like that over time?

Does the water have to be 'hand hot' or piping hot?

    RSVP

    63Brummie.

  • @63Brummie I would brush shine them several times each. Like at least 10 times. That gives the boots a good base to start with. Brush on the polish, wait about 10 minutes, then brush the polish off. It works well if the boots are in a cold room while waiting. When spit shining them, use as hot water as hot as you can handle on your cloth. This helps the oils in the polish do their job.

  • in in cadets and im having trouble with polishing my shoes. they were dull looking when i bought them so that might be it all ask my sgt later toady.

  • so what? ... big circles?

  • thanks man how long should it take

  • hey dose it work as good for military jump boots..

  • man u got the best method and the cheapest thanks man helped me out alot

  • werd u get ur boots from

  • Thanks dude it's my friends funeral today and I'd quite forgotten how to spitpolish as I never did get it right when I was in the drumcorps .Tony Howes allways did though . Rip . T.H .

  • My shoes were messed up and you saved their lives. Thanks and how about checking my channel and subscribing.

  • how do i strip the boot of old shoe polish?

my boots are shiny but the wax is no longer evenly distributed after getting the boot scuffed some areas, and trying to fix them by spot shining.

the boots look shiny altogether, but the texture in some areas is just not even

  • okay so i got a problem, i polish and shine my shoes but i cannot get it like yours. to get it fully can i just keep doing the circles for atleast 2 minutes?

  • I like you boot there really really nice and I LOVE the SHINE of the boot that class so what size are you? and is video of wearing the boot I like see on and done to what like? and other people might like see to " who will fine you"

    Email soon THANK you

  • im lovin this lol cadet camp i made like 25£ just shinning boots, which isnt alot of money but when you started off with £0 and you like to order pizza in for you and the other nco's ..... lol

  • is it possible to shine combat boots like that?

  • @earthwingnewsletter on my collage boots, witch i beleve are combat boots as im on a pre uniformed service course, i can get the toe area like that but the rear half of the boots isnt the same type of leather and is very hard to shine it will only get a little bit of a shine, my teachers who are mostly ex military people mostly paratroopers say for these boots you should polish it all anyway as you need to care for the leather, i hope this helps you friend

  • Fuckin' shitty boots good sir!

  • thx a lot bro im wearing my deus for the first time tmr and i don't wanan mess up

gonna be polishing my boots all night tonight haha

  • @mrppeetteerr have fun.....on parade?

  • Hi! I was actually looking up for some other videos here in youtube when I accidentally saw videos on how to clean boots and shoes and all I can say is that your video is the best I had seen amongst them. I'm a former ROTC Cadet Officer and we we're taught a very slightly similar way of polishing our boots but I think that your method will be the new one that I will adopt from now on because I think it is really the most useful. I am now a Reservist of the Army here in our country. Thanks!

  • @acehitler26 wich country do you serve ??

  • it looks like ur polish is melted, is it?

  • @XibitionXpert I sometimes place the can with the lid on into HOT water for about 5 minutes....it doesn't give the cracking associated with burn-shining(using a lighter on the boot with a thick coat of polish on it).

  • would this method work on british boots

  • @09jeveritt

are your boots leather then yeah it should work

  • @09jeveritt yes1 i used the same on my cadet boots and im uk!

  • @123chelseaman my boots are fked now i use em for field craft and i use my field ones for drill and parades

  • @09jeveritt yes it does i have tried lol

  • awesome vid thanks :)

  • does this work on old cadet boots to????

  • Thanks ever soo much; was polishing my shoes franticly for days with little but no luck then I tried this technique and I have the shiniest shoes in the sqn. :D

  • ur in cadets, arent u?

  • @monkeykidXD nope....I am in the Canadian Air Force.

  • @kandem360 awesome

  • @kandem360 I polished my boots for the first time, (they are a dull matt leather) I used your method and got my left boot ( the 1st boot) perfect. But i couldn't do the Right boot, the polish kept breaking up, what am I doing wrong?

  • fucking excellent tutorial, thx really needed to learn to do boots proberly in ACF thx m8
