The average age of a Bottlenose Dolphin is 25 years. Fungi is believed to have been born in the mid-1970's which now make him at least 33-36 years old which is very old for a dolphin. Maybe he's a Dingle man back for reincarnation with a lifespan of an average human:-)
Not long back from a holiday i Kerry....and I got to see Fungie.....the most incredible experience of my entire..( Im 57 )...a show off and an exhibitionist if ever I saw one. lol. He was amazing....he danced and jumped with every boat...swam up alongside so we could see him. Never have I had such an experience in my life.
Wow! Really hope he's got his own little pod. There was a female dolphin that hung out with him for a while several years ago, but she didn't like the attention so much and left.
as far as I know he is still around, my dad usually fishes in Dingle every year and he says he is :) Hope he is too im wanting to see the little fellow again saw him 7 years ago. :)
hehe i saw Fungi about 4 years ago, me and my family have been going ireland every year since i was 11, although i haven't been for 3 years, im now 22, its so beautiful ive seen fungi about 3 times and his such a delight to watch.
Saw him about 10 years ago in Dingle Bay. He's a real show off - caught himself a nice big fish and was showing it to everyone on the boat. Must be getting on a bit now the old fella!
Yeh I swam with him in 2000. He caught a fish and showed it off then as well! It was so amazing swimming with him in the water, chasing him and playing a bit. One of the best experiences of my life for sure.
I don't want to spoil the magic but i'm afraid there has been like 8 Fungi's! :(
