lol he didn't die b/c of the bare bottom tank... fish keepers keep their fish in bare bottom tanks all the time. although gravel is a source of beneficial bacteria, most of the BB resides in your bio filter.

first of all very nice fish. secondly i know exactly what killed it. NO SUBSTRATE. you see when you have substrate your aquarium cycles properly and the bacteria that the fish needs to prodouce its slimecoat exists plus when a fish is stresed it shuts down the glands that make the stress coat. your fish was stresed because it didnt have any substrait or decoration. to him its like being stuck in outer space and that would stress you out too next time put sone stuff in the tank good luck
sorry to hear that he died. Beutiful fish. I also compliment your camera i am amazed at how much better the quality is. I need to get me one :). Do you have any replacments for the fish yet?
how does that happen?? the slim coat is similar to our skin...it protects us from infection...how do u know that it deteriorated? So fascinating...I love Labiatum...They are so rare...u never find them in the hobby only Centrinellum. How big was it?
my dad had a huge 1 like almost 4 pounds in a 55 gal. long it had one eye and killed a record of 7 other fish

the substrate dosent make it "haapy" or "sad" moron.

@supaflywilkins Although, from what I've noticed, most cichlids have a tendency to want to dig

@supaflywilkins No substrate is easier to clean.

sorry to hear about that. but i have a midas right now. how much gallon was needed for yours to grow that size?
darkcresentx 3 years ago
it was a 4 foot tank, 75 gallon i think.
africanmarty 3 years ago
Cichlids like this get big as fuck no matter what the tank size is. One of these needs a 75gallon minimum in order to be healthy.
