@ludlekill Starshatter is now open source. You can get the game from starshattermods. You just need to register. Look for the install guide in the Player's Lounge in the forums.
BTW there is an open source version of the game just in case anyone was still looking for it. There are also a bunch of mods. Just look up Starshattermods. You have to register to see the download section but definitely worth it.
howcome all i can find are either fast paced but lame FPS style space games where the objective is to keep the enemy in the center of your screen, or slow boring ass games like this where ships move to slow, etc,
where is the happy medium? of face based but tactical space game? maybe with some RPG elements? and dont tell me home world -_-
@congruent2006 Have you seen Nexus : The jupiter incident? its a bit faster rts, you get into combat very quickly, but sometimes you have to look for objectives and thats not to long if you know what your doing, i think its allright, the combat is nice too
I had the beta for this game a very long time ago, and only recently remembered the name. Does anyone know where you can find a copy for download or purchase?
The capital ships at 0:20 and 1:45 are diffidently ships I'll love to helm. And they have both RC thrusters and Z axis movement, not like SWEAT where capital ship engage each on a flat surface. I'll keep an eye out for this game.
Man this is actually a great game, a few bugs but I really enjoyed it. You know why games likes this don't make it? Because people don't really buy them. The companies in the middle ground are the ones that lose the most. People spend a shitload of the big name games that are just rehashes of other stuff, and usually screw over games like this one. Websites like Gamespot are just payed off by big companies and they give biased ratings to these.. I wish people bought games like this more often.
@EroguroTheater Microsoft tried this route with Allegiance but it flopped basically so they made it open source, now it's only held together by a group of fans through the internet that maintain hosting for multiplayer games
i looked baseclt every where for this game, nothing on Ebay, looked at the biggest online game selling sites: nothing,... only plase i could find it was pirate bay... i gonna look in a store(they have alot..) downtown if they dont have it there i download it fron PB it looks awesome :D
I bought a copy of this game (some idiot sold it for $6), but unfortunately it doesn't work on Vista. Does anyone know how to make this work on Vista? You have no idea how grateful this space nerd will be if anyone can help.
@OmegaHunter24 uhmm u go to the .exe file the one to start the game, and then right click, properties, compatibily run as windows xp or something like xD
@LordEizen My problem is that when I put the disc in, nothing even happens at all and I can't install it. The computer doesn't even register that anything is on the disc. I tried it on another computer and it worked and almost installed, but the computer was too shitty to actually run the game afterwards. I tried installing it onto a flash drive but then it still wouldn't run on my vista.
@OmegaHunter24 oh.. uhmm then maybe your cd drive is not working right :s maybe try to download and ISO of the game.. (ISO is and image of the cd) or you can make the ISO yourself on another computer that reads the cd and then u copy the ISO to your computer using your flash drive =)
@Thasunkawitko, have you ever heard of fast-forward ingame for long-distance flight? if you have to fly very far as you say, you whack afterburners on and hit 4x time warp.
they stopped suporting sales of the game apparently (I just emailed the developer), BUT you can find copies on amazon/ebay for under $20 with a quick search.
The awesomest part has to be the heavy ship combat (from experience, I bought a copy) :D
That sucks about it being discontinued by Matrix Games. It seems to me the developer (Destroyer Studios) didn't support it enough because Matrix Games puts out and supports many games by various independent developers, like those shitty VGA war-games people keep making that no one plays. Starshatter had good reception. They wasted time on a patch for Tracker ID when they should have worked out the bugs better instead. I'm sure Matrix Games would have continued its support but developer is MIA!
@myster1234 This is by far the most realistic and best looking space combat sim I've seen....rivals Sins of the Solar Empire....Matrix Games made a dumbass move for not supporting this,if you ask me
@ponty94 :o if you have this game, i would love to get a copy from you, this game seems like its one of those that should have been yet a shityer one with a bigger name on it got in instead.
its not an mmorpg like Eve, it's a single-player game with some multiplayer game fuctionality (no real online community tho). that's not the ingame music.
Aw sick. I hate Mmorpgs =D The only other good Space Game I know of is Evochron Legends. Now that was fun ;) Although you couldn't get big ships. It was mainly fighters and stuff. Like Freelancer without the frieghters.
Yeah, the ability to strafe and all that is good. If you want a game that is probably the most accurate space-sim is probably the Babylon 5 "I Found Her" free game (very professional looking too). On the other hand, Starshatter gives you the option to have a simple or more realistic type mode. It's perfect. I only wish the starfighter later sound FX were better, and looked a bit better, and they could have done more with the 3D cockpit.
@myster1234 eve online is the best space game ever but i ting i dont like at all that make the game like shit you need pay for that to keep play darn but its great ting i ever play :D
Yup, had the same problem, you kind of have to adjust your thinking - space is really big, really really big, - nope even bigger than that. even if your fighter is booking along at 1.5 kps that's still just creeping along - unless you're going towards or away from a close object that is "close" to you. "Close" as in anything under 150km -- had a problem with the dogfighting mindset from SWG & WC sims where you want to see the target up close.
Thasunkawitko, thnks!but i give up space games now.after FREELANCER which is the awesome space game and i enjoyed the most.all camed after are junk & suck like this game that ridiculous rather than enjoyable.lol
the game is a hybrid of lots of other games. everything happens in real-time, you start out as a pilot and as you advance in rank you get to eventually command a squadron, a small ship, bigger ship, and ultimately command a carrier. in the ship-combat mode, it is somewhat like Starfleet Command in that its slow-paced naval like warfare. In fact, it reminds me alot of the ship-to-ship combat in the Wing Commander movie.
A quick question if I may, I've heard this game is pretty moddable and I have seen some lovely looking mods, but has anyone ever made a new 'dynamic' campaign?, I saw on the feature description over at matrix games "Fully moddable dynamic mission system " but have not found as of yet any user made content of this type?.
The game is a war-game but each campaign plays out in real-time so a if you want you could jump to another system where another fleet is at if you wanted. They use jumpgates but I believe the capital ships also have "jump-engines".
A game with "realistic" travel between systems might be Independence War (I-War) and I-War 2. I don't recall good tho.

Sadly this wasn't as good as Nexus the Jupiter Incident was.
well, Starshatter isn't a normal type of sim-type game, they tried to make more a realistic war game. each operation was in real-time across a solar system/region of space and dynamic. altho you can "end missions" when you complete your objectives, you could actually keep playing since the war is still raging.
